Sounds like Sony can be written off as a major competitor, at least in the high end this year.

I agree with Ramu that there is no high end device for another 7 to 8 months. Like I said a few days ago Sirius is just an upgraded Z1 but it is supposed to be the first Sony phone which will release globally in all markets.
Sony is releasing one true flagship a year which will be sightly upgraded after 6 months.
By the way my source told me that Sirius is what Z1 was supposed to be( better display, camera and so on).

Ahh jeez, it's this same cycle every year though, guess they'll be back in the game in late 2014/early 2015 then.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

You absolute troll, it almost hurts that I'll be the only one that actually still pays attention to your rubbish...

Any idea if it will come in the lime color that the Z1 Compact comes in?

Other little things I noticed scrolling this 4.4.2 update for the sirius
- GLOVE MODE (so sirius will have the glove mode )
- USB DAC support for hi res audio
- the Lifelog app will already be on board (nice, I like the idea of Smartband)
- “Close all” option in the Recent apps
- “Touch block”. When enabled the screen will not automatically turn on when exposed to water
I like how the UI is even clearer and pure... nearer to the HOLO style than anyone else...
also excited for the S-Stereo and Speaker, and for the double tap to wake up

GREAT EVOLUTION!
what really caught my attention:
gloves mode, dual speakers - s force - probably sound boost , much better looking UI! memory card in the box (?), tap screen, 4k ready. i'm sure there will be much more reveals at MWC.

Z1 on the left D6503 on right.

D6503 is slightly thinner and only 1mm taller and wider.
[ This Message was edited by: DACHA on 2014-01-20 19:37 ]

Posted by Gitaroo
assuming black one is sirius, does look even taller due to bigger screen. From those leaked photos, the bezel size looks more or less the same as Z1.

Posted by qkp1994
Not much changes in size! Considering that the D6503 has 5.2" screen versus the 5" screen on Z1, I would expect less bezel in the D6503!

Hope that little hole is the IR Blaster. Somehow, I am afraid that it could be a mic.

Posted by itsjustJOH
^Looks more like a mic, but a weird place to put it. I don't know what those 3 dots at the bottom are, though. If those two subtle slits at the top and bottom on the front are the stereo speakers, I doubt those 3 dots or holes would be speakers.

Can somebody please ask doomlord and irimas to stop leaking?

I think Sony might as well link that XDA thread in their announcement...

m afraid xperia blog could be kicked right in the nuts by sony banhammer...

Posted by itsjustJOH
Now that almost everything has been leaked about this phone, I feel an announcement even before MWC. Otherwise, this is like Z1 all over again. It just felt meh when they announced the Z1 when everyone knew every bit about it. It'd be nice if it leaked a few days before announcement, but a month or more than would be boring. For the meantime, Sony has to find the employee responsible for this mess.

I partly agree with you, 64bit is the future, now or later, and it's better to have a seamless and trouble-less transition between 32bit and 64bit...

But the part I don't agree with is for developers.. developers won't create or port any app to 64bit if there's no 64bit devices... why ? because they won't spend money developing something that won't be used at all... they will do what they will get paid for doing.. 32bit !!

The main problem regarding 64bit is that applications compiled for 64bit won't run on 32bit devices ( and OS )... so if there's no 64bit devices out there.. how will people use 64bit apps ? so when 64bit devices are spread and the ADK for 64bit version is out there.. then we might see some companies doing 64bit.. in fact most will do... but most of these will just test 64bit to see what's the benefit of it and this is another reason... a lot of apps actually will not benefit from 64bit and some might have a slight benefit... so if they develop a 64bit only app then it won't run on any 32bit device which are the majority... and if the benefit is not that great in 64bit.. they won't see any solid reason for why going for two apps paths ( 32bit and 64bit ) while they can do it better with only one (32bit) and saving the 64bit efforts for polishing and perfecting the 32bit app !!

I totally got your point, and in my comment regarding the programs, I have 2 points to declare more
1-the programs I mean is the major software company programs found in play are have a 64bit clone
2-Google itself will not be that open maybe from the next version of android and the number of software companies will decreases hardly

S5 is rumored to have S805, heck even HTC M8 is now rumored to have one. I can't believe Sony won't release a S805 to rival them especially that Sony is now a top tier Qualcomm customer, unless Qualcomm or any other SoC manufacturer has something much better for H2.

If you remembered the previous year Samsung and HTC was the first to got the SD-600 and after just 2 months the Z ultra came out with the first SD-800

So maybe the same SONY will pass the 805 for something Qualcomm may announce sooner

Posted by DACHA
SD 805 will be outdated before it even release. Samsung and Apple are/will be on 20nm and 805 will be produced using 28nm technology. 20nm and 64 bit.

Holy *!
I didn't teally expect that much.

But this is phenomenal, this reminds me of Sony at CES, WOW WOW JUST WOW WOW !!!!!!
WOW.

4K, SlowMo, GloveMode, S-Force, StereoSpeaker, remains IP58, WhiteBalance, DoubleTap2wake and bigger screen within the same size

I don't know what to say, just WOW!

Posted by Gitaroo
looks like everyone is waiting for qualcomm new chip to release new flagship. As nice as new eyxnos can be, they probably can't make enough to supply the demand, have to mix in some snapdragon variants for different market. I think Apple might further increase the gap in CPU performance this year since s800 cant really keep up with ip5s. don't think s805 bump in clock speed with make much of a difference but its GPU should be more or less on par with news iphone I am guessing.

wish they can offer trade in prioblem for z1 lol, I believe the size is a bit bigger, bezel doesn't seems improved, just screen gotten bigger.

Posted by DexterMoser
^I think Doomlord mentioned that it's IPS, right?

It kind if sickens me to wait more than one months until this device will be released (officially then ).
I'm so excited about the camera (esp. features) and the speakers!
I'd have never believed in stereo speakers, I thought Sirius would just be a Z1 with the S800AB, 3GB RAM and a bigger screen.

Thats ALL ive been saying.. they are a step behind after being a step ahead.. the problem is that their radio integration is enough to strong arm competition it can only last for so long before someone jumps ship.. Im just saying that the node, and bit depth are too much to ignore this year. that in addition to the use of LPDDR4.. the 805 to me, is a market misread.

Denver's power draw will probably be to high for phones... tablets MAYBE but of course all of this has yet to be seen. the s805 may dominate, but not on the strength of its CPU. there just isnt that many options for smaller OEMs like Sony.. Sammy cant even supply themselves so (in a manner of speaking, selling A7s is more profitable)

Yes the bezels are not that better (which as I already stated is not a big problem for me) at least this time is justified by the 5,2" screen AND the stereo speaker! Now the Bezels really means something
Still the omnibalance line is awesome

Posted by motvikt
I hope for the competition on the mobile soc market that Samsung use their own chips in galaxy s5 and tegra k1 is a big hit in tablets. It's a shame ST-Ericsson was disbanded (even though they were a broken company), they were the only ones who could compete with Qualcomms radio integration. Their Thor modems were great.

Sirius looks awesome btw. Hope they use an awesome screen this time. It's almost impossible to recommend Sony anymore on Swedish tech-sites, always some troll bashing the screen...

Posted by Away
Shouldn't the sd805 be available around the same time as tk1 (a15 quad)? And isn't that in at least a few months?

The s805 is the result of Qualcomm destroying the competition thanks to ARM's a15 fail, and then becoming arrogant and falling asleep. Nvidia, Samsung and Apple are all leaving them behind this year.

But it doesn't matter when it comes to Apple - no one else uses their chips. Nor when it comes to Samsung, even their tab 10.1 (2014 edition) severely lags, so the real life usage advancement will be minimal. And I doubt they have the capacity to fulfill both themselves and Apple.

Qualcomm's sheer luck means they'll get many major design wins again. Less than last year, but still, quite a few.

The real question is the speed of the a15 K1 chips in phones, their thermal efficiency etc. I'm just clinging onto hope I guess.

How can Qualcomm go from hero to zero in 6 months??? Shameful.

HTC and Sony's dependence on Qualcomm will hurt them a lot this year...

I don't have problem with the thinner side bezel, I actually like them because I have big hands, my thumbs and fingers will never cover the screen when I hold them unlike phones with thin bezel, but the thick bezel on top and bottom are the problems. I don't think they can reduce it because they have to fit the camera on the top side with nothing behind or they have to make it thicker due to the G lens. They also have to keep the omni balance design to make things symmetrical which I respect because one of the best thing about sony is design + engineering, unlike many companies that just slap everything together and call it finished. Only way to reduce size of the phone is probably the change in material. Like the trim around sirius is thinner than z1 it seems. Sirius looks like it might be getting even closer to note 3 size now, I rather they keep the 5" screen and goes other way to reduce the size like thinner trims around the phone.

S805 was 'expected 2H' which is most likely a hedge. It comes down to real world benchmarks (:P).. but yea again, its been quite a few years since the perception this early on in the year of the door being open to anyone. i dont know what the other companies are ACTUALLY planning. Just rumors against the S805 announcement.. which was well beneath what the market was predicting off of the back of Samsung and TSMC with respect to the A7 which is a 2013 chip. So *shrug* storm in a teacup.. we will observe.. GPUs all over the place, Modems (integrated vs discrete), CPUs all over the place.. and no way for the end user to choose their own combination.. that fits their needs.

Also I stated that there were stereo speakers a few pages back, great to see

Posted by DexterMoser
^ Yeah I noticed that you mentioned stereo speakers, my wildest dreams came true

Stereo speakers and glove mode is hardware related. And it remains to be questioned if 4K and Slow Motion are just software or require some hardware changes like the faster/higher clocked GPU.

Nevertheless I didn't expect this, did you?

Big lol @Antutu

I really like everything that has been leaked now. But I have never read anything about new camera software that aims to improve the shots taken by the phone? Any info about that? This is the only problem I have right now with Sony as the photo taken by Z1 could be better.

Am I the only one bothered with that fugly battery icon? I mean, the old ones and the white one shown in the LifeLog video is perfect (same as the one we have, except for being completely white)

Posted by >500
Im not trying to start a fanboy war here but since I am a neutral with brands (except Apple). I point out Samsung as I can only assume Sony is gunning for them in the market (clearly going to take time)...

Its good to see Sony implementing more software/apps that are actually 'useful'. Take note, Samsung. I lost count as to how many things are on the, s4 as an example, that I would never even think of using (or dont work consistantly. I put my Sammy smart tv in the same category!). Im talking about the air gestures, smartview etc, which I found almost useless when using the s4. I know Sony have introduced a couple here, and they are guilty (like all manufacturers), of having some crap apps, but I find sony generally have more PRACTICAL software onboard, especially with the new things like double tap to wake coming.
