I don't feel it. I think it's still pretty early for a flagship. And if zomg is right, the only flagship for 2014.

Zomg is right on this one. 95% sure.

@ Dacha

Then Z2 would be Sirius? I heard Sirius will be announced on MWC and released in Mar-Apr.

Confused

It is still unclear why nVidia used the companion core instead of big.Little, but that is definitely not because of die size: Cortex-A15 is more than four times as big as an A7 ( http://www.anandtech.com/show[....]architecture-power-at-isscc-13 ), in other words, they can put 4 Cortex-A7 cores instead of the companion A15, and end up with a smaller chip. The reason why they chose the companion core instead may be because they just reused the Tegra 4 CPU with a newer process and using big.LITTLE would have taken more time to implement.

My guess is big.LITTLE wasn't ready by that time, and we all know Tegra 4 was almost the first Quad A15 chip out there while most other makers only had Dual A15.. and even when Samsung came with Exynos 5 Octa, they brought it in very early non-finished state ( still Beta ) and never had Quad A15 only SoC... maybe later when process technology advances more then A15 will be good for quad alone.. but by that time, A15 will be already old...

Just a more info. regarding the different between A7 and A15, here's quote from Anandtech

On 2013-02-24 15:00:00, Anandtech wrote:
...In its ISSCC paper on the topic Samsung noted that the Cortex A15 offered up to 3x the performance of the Cortex A7, at 4x the area and 6x the power consumption...

Now the picture is clear, In Tegra 4 the companion core is still A15, some sources I don't remember now stated that the reason why NVIDIA had another A15 core rather than just shutting down other cores is that the Companion A15 is more optimised for low power and clock, but the other Quad A15 are not...

but looking back at the quote, A15 is 3 times faster than A7 but with 6x more power and 4x die area... this is exactly why Tegra 4 isn't popular.. the companion core as an A15 even when optimised, its not good for idle times and standby, it's just too power hungry.. 6X the power of A7 at 3x the performance !! hell I don't want any Tegra 4 devices !!

Going back to Z2/Sirius...

@evleak is good, but I trust zomg more...
Maybe they want to uncover it in Feb. so every body wait for it.. and release it in May with 805.. but 3 months is too much..

regarding spec. 1440p is too good to be true, and 805 this early is very hard also.. except like I said having too much time between announcement and launch ( 3+ Months like pre 2012 days ).. 4GB ram is overkill but I like how it sounds, but I guess 3GB for 805 or 2GB for 800AB.. 32GB internal + microSD is very good indeed.. go on Sony... but zomg did mention the salt in this recipe... hope it taste well when it arrives

About the Z2 news, not surprising: flagship announcement at MWC, the spec mentioned by zomg in case it is the only flagship for 2014, release dates (march/april-int, june-us).
a bit surprising: it's the Z2 - was expecting it at IFA (i'm assuming that it means also a new design), and that it may be the only flagship for 2014. i can understand the first one but the only flagship for 2014... i doubt that. sony likes IFA and a new flagships every half a year.
anyway, very nice specs. gloves mode and no shatter film this time sony?

perhaps Z2C and bunch other companion at IFA

@supercoolman
Who knows... could be, but it would be a major change for sony. 2012: S>T. 2013:Z>Z1. the only disadvantage i see for it is that sony won't be able to offer 64 bit processor in 2014 while apple and samsung already got there. do you think this is marginal? some people buy phones every 4-5 years.

Anyone know when the next tablet will be announced?

Posted by amirprog
@dandyqb
What in the world??? when did sony start to announce new devices in youtube? in the official site. another leak "by mistake" (or not) of sony employee? like the Z1s image leak at sony site?
*looking at it specs... looks like a very nice midrange phablet if priced right. the only downside i can see is that for a 6" display they should have put FHD and not only 720p and 8GB internal may be too little for some people, although it has a micro SD slot up to 32GB.
sony no leak policy is unstable how much time before its taken out of the site and that employee is fired? or maybe it's intentional? hard to believe.

Xperia T2 Ultra with Snapdragon 400 and quote sonymobile.com "
6” HD TRILUMINOS™ Display for mobile with X-Reality™ for mobile picture engine
720 x 1080 pixels and 16,777,216-colour TFT
"

The screen resolution is obviously a typo, but going with cheap processor with such a big phone? Kind of fail isn't it?

It's not a typo, it's a cheap phone. €399 RRP in the Netherlands.

Waiting for SONY bezel comments

That's very cheap.

And kept under such good wraps that my local market's website has been caught unawares. They know everything and even list rumoured devices.

The T2 Ultra is actually really good in the bezel department. They even mentioned it in the press release (which only happened before for the ZL).

Xperia T2 Ultra’s stunning 6” HD TRILUMINOS display extends to within 2.5 mm of the phone’s edges. This means that it has a screen to phone size ratio of 73.6%, both making the most of the space available and ensuring that the phone is no wider than a standard credit card.

Nice. The t2 ultra is actually extremely interesting. Sony made a lot of good choices with the design. I hope the screen is good too

T2 Ultra and E1 are both not splash-proof or waterproof.

developer.sonymobile.com/2014/01/14/introducing-sony-xperia-t2-ultra-xperia-t2-ultra-dual-a-6smartphone-for-large-screen-entertainment/

White paper on the bottom of the page says IPS screen, woah! Also they use a new soc which is not listed on Wikipedia

Posted by feryshad
from T2 ultra's whitepaper:

Xperia™ T2 Ultra highlights
• 6-inch IPS HD screen with TRILUMINOS™ Display for mobile and Mobile BRAVIA® Engine 2
• 13MP smart social camera with Exmor RS™ for mobile and Xperia™ camera apps
• Powerful 3000 mAh battery with Battery STAMINA mode
• Super performance – LTE and Snapdragon quad-core 1.4 GHz processor
• NFC-based one-touch functions – connectivity made easy
Large screen, maximum portability
For a phone with a 6-inch screen, the Xperia™ T2 Ultra has a surprisingly sleek look and feel. This is
because of the extremely high ratio of screen to phone size – 73.6%, to be exact. And the Xperia™ T2
Ultra features an easy-toggle keyboard for one-handed input. Ideal when using its mini keypad, dial pads
and easy trigger notification tray.
True colours on the 6-inch display
The wide-viewing angle screen is a 6-inch HD TRILUMINOS™ Display for mobile. This means it’s built
with the same ground breaking technology as Sony BRAVIA® TVs. You can expect a wider palette and an
amazingly vivid reproduction of colours. The screen also includes Mobile BRAVIA® Engine 2, a Sony
display technology optimised to enhance sharpness and reduce noise.

LOL nobody saw this coming...
more or less
Xperia E1 and T2 Ultra...
So really now sony will go with this type of Naming...
Z1-2-3-4...
E1-2-3-4...
T-2-3-4...
Plus ultra, compact or whatsoever
will there be
L2-3-4 or
SP1-2-3-4
in your opinion?

XPERIA T2 ULTRA
From Sony Developer World
Xperia T2 Ultra combines a number of key design features that balance the need for a large screen with portability and battery endurance. It has a 6” HD TRILUMINOS display that extends to within 2.5 mm of the phone’s edges. This means that it has a screen to phone size ratio of 73.6%, which makes the most of the space available and ensures that the phone is no wider than a standard credit card. Xperia T2 Ultra is also slim (7.6 mm) and light (weighing only 173 ± 1g depending on variant differences), fitting easily in a jacket pocket.

Do somebody know what is the app on the right in the raw with the Sony App??

last but not least, the official Smart Cover for T2
http://developer.sonymobile.c[....]fication/stylecoverstandscr14/

BTW I like the T2 Ultra as a product, will sell very good in Asia I think, big screen, low price!
also the screen look awesome, finally they are going with IPS???
Only thing I do not like is that there is no link/resemblance/connect with the Xperia T and the Arc design

From Sony Developer World
XPERIA E1
Great music everywhere
Sony’s audio heritage can be clearly heard in Xperia E1 as key technologies come together with the 100Db speaker to produce a louder, cleaner sound that can hold its own in any environment. ClearAudio+ mode instantly enhances your listening experience and optimises the balance of frequencies, while xLOUD™ ensures that your tracks sound as good as they should – loud and crystal clear.

With a dedicated “long press to launch” Walkman™ button, the Xperia E1 allows for effortless loading and navigation of your tracks. In addition, the pre-loaded 30 day pass for Sony’s Entertainment Network2 music streaming service lets you explore and enjoy almost any song, almost anywhere.

WIll the E series be geared towards Walkman integration?? :3 will we see an AMP??

Out of nowhere Sony has just announced the Xperia E1 (Dual) and T2 (Dual), like the Xperia V back in 2012 . They're not high-end, but they're really attractive, design- as well as spec-wise. Thumbs up!

I love the fact that these phones weren't leaked beforehand!
I guess the E1 is the closest thing I'll get to an android walkman, what with the dedicated W button + LOUD loudspeaker, designed to play your music at high volume. Too bad (for me) it's not a high-spec handset.
I'm also glad that Sony are not deserting the low-end market too. They need to cover all areas if they really want to gain market share.

Posted by goldenface
The E1 looks VERY attractive for a lower end phone and the T2 Ultra has a decent camera and flash. They need to price these right though. I'm VERY tempted by the T2 ultra.

Posted by vivftp
Please Sony, put that speaker from the E1 into a flagship device somehow!

Posted by unknownC151A
Wow the T2 Ultra's confirmed IPS screen is stunning from the above picture.

Dat black power button...

DAT WALKMAN BUTTON!!! DAYUMMMMM!!!

I really dig that white paint and black sides, looks really funky. A good looking Walkman phone!

Closest thing to an android walkman is the android walkman, F-series, sure it is not a telephone but it features a real S-master AMP unlike the E1.

E1 looks great, looks quite competitive for the market.

Posted by goldenface
The E1 should have been Walkman branded.

Then I could die in peace

Official E2 and T2 Ultra threads are up.

Thanks Goldenface

Surprising indeed, surprising that no leak policy worked .

Posted by itsjustJOH
Oh, BTW, E1 is D200X, T2 Ultra is D530X/D5322 and Z1 Compact is D550X. We still have D230X and D650X from the leaked model numbers. Probably MWC? I feel another online announcement, MWC is still more than a month away.

Also, I looked back at the leaked Antutu scores of the D2005 and D5303.

The Antutu score of the D2005 looks a little bit too high for an S200 (MSM8210, dual-core A7 and Adreno 302), as well as the D5303's score which is way too high for an S400 (MSM8928, most likely quad-core A7 and Adreno 305) compared to Moto G with the same SoC only having a 17k score. Much fake, very edits.

I love to see it coming back! It's helluva ducking awesome! And yes I'm digging hard the E1 style and choice of colours:3

I agree, this surprise announcement is a nice treat and perhaps WMC might be full of more surprises.

What surprised me is the bluetooth music receiver from Sony the BM10 I don't recall seeing this before. I have a logitech bluetooth receiver but the Sony has bluetooth v3 vs v2.1 on my logitech one.
