i missed the beginning of the press conference.. did they talk about the wristband yet? I'm actually curious about that. it seems to do a lot of the things i want.

but yea.. no flare this year. this guy isn't hyping the products the way he should. he's a robot on stage!

Posted by HxH
Kaz did the stage for IFA, last year was Phil Molyneux that ran CES show isn't it?

Wish the z1 compact would be out the same time as the z1s

I wish that there was a D5506 with US LTE bans. WE got the short end of the stick once again

I think Sony failed to make hype for their smartphones. I see no way for Z1 compact to be even half as popular as Z was.

I have to disagree. There is nothing on the market like the Z1 compact. I know a hand full of people who would buy it in the US if it comes out unlocked with LTE. 4.3" is the perfect screen size for many.

Posted by rss_ndrsn
I think Z1 compact is really cool, much likeable than Z1.

The pleasure was all mine, hope to see you all again next year, bye .

Sony play their ball very carefully and being different and with their timing since last year with the Z. Only problem with the Z was announce early but released a couple months later which the competitors products was released very closed. This round, their got the first very high end small android device out in the market shortly after announcement and release at a very good price point, $530 USD buy off from tmobile also work on AT&T. There really is nothing quite like Z1 Compact in the market beside iphone 5s. Samsung nor any body else can even react fast enough so Sony basically have the entire Q1 basically to sell this phone to the desire market (small flagship phone). I think they will stick to a Q1 and Q4 reveal/release of flagship devices from now on and leave Q2 and Q3 for the competitors to face off enough others.

Posted by jonfensu
According with Zomg
FYI - there is no T-Mobile release planned for this phone (Z1 Compact) as far as I know. It is not slated for any US carrier as they all rejected it on the basis of being "too small and too expensive". It will be out everywhere else though.

And
The one saving grace may be a Google Play Edition for the US, but it's just a hope at the moment based on Sony's strong relationship with them.

The Z1s is going to be $529 without a contract from T-Mo, and is fully compatible with AT&T LTE. On that basis a Z1-C GPE would come in at the same sort of price, maybe $499.

I hope one of the US carriers takes it up, but right now it's not looking good.

Bad news for US users

could anyone please post the link where zomg posts? I can't seem to find it :/

that is the link.

I have to disagree with zomg that z1 compact is not coming to the US. It is supposed to come to the US unlocked but no time-frame has been established yet.

he probably means no carrier is taking it. just hope that unlock version is going to support all carrier bands.

I don't get these US carriers. They carry a phone like lumia 1020 but not Z1 or Z1 compact. Do they really think that lumia 1020 is superior?

Posted by rency0722
Xperia Z1s coming out with an EXCLUSIVE XPERIA CAMERA APP named Background Defocus.

Hope it will be extracted by our good guys at XDA.

I'm much more interested in the SmartWear right now, it looks cool! Why haven't they announced it yet?

Posted by MartenR
Does any one know their sale goal for Xperia Z1 compact? It seems like they didn't make it available widely for hands-on.

AFAIK, it's not finalised yet, even in hardware side, that's why there's no spec. ( like which BT version, battery life, how to sync. ) the only thing known about it's spec. it's that there's NFC and should have BT for sync...

I'm interested too in this ( along with that BT speakers ).. but I'm waiting for more info, specially how and where we can wear it, sometimes it will be hard for me to wear it in wrist, it will be awesome if I can wear it in different ways and keeps the same functionality...

Posted by itsjustJOH
^No, wait, they did. They call it the Core, then the SmartBand. And then the Sony page says it's the SmartWear.

Posted by supercoolman
US carriers live on American Dreams. at least AT&T does with all of its services - internet, homephone ...etc. charge the same price as competitors, but gives you worst service.

looks like T-Mobile USA is going to offer Z1S C6916 very soon. can anyone confirm if Z1S =\\= Z1 compact?

pretty sure they are 2 differnt thing.

Posted by supercoolman
nevermind. remember someone said Z1S has 4.3 screen which confused me. can't find that statement anymore. at least it's 32GB vs Z1's 16GB on Sony's website

RAM (Processor) : 2GB
Internal Phone Storage : Up to 32GB
External : microSD card, up to 64GB (SDXC supported, sold separately)

because Z1s also carry an extra alphabet after 1, so people thought it was a international version of Z1f. Z1s it the re engineered version of Z1 similar to PSP1000 to PSP 2000 or 3000, PS3 phat to PS3 slim etc. On gaming system, Sony do it for system price cut, this case its the same case for phones. You might gain a thing or two in the new model, build quality is usually lower than the 1st gen. Who knows what did they cut in the internal of the phone. If you look at the sony site, Z1s battery for talk time is a bit higher and lower than the Z1 in everything else. So there is definitely some interior hardware change.

Why is SONY wasting Money on tennis racket sensor??? I dono why waste money, time and resources.

this is sad, neither of Z1s and Z1 compact carries IPS panels. Guess it only happens in Japan... when will we ever see IPS outside of Japan?

So Z1s doesn't differ that much from Z1, except the larger 32GB which is a very welcome change for Sony that they should do it long time ago ( at least with Z1, not to mention the original Z )... but why the Z1s dimensions are different ? why they make two different but identical devices where they can do it with one only ? now they will need to have different ROM's and maintain different development lanes for these devices... and Sony should focus on having fewer devices to have quicker updates for all of them...

32GB is good, I hope all new high-ends will come with at least 32GB of internal memory now... it's a move we all been waiting for from 2013 !!

But why having different ASIC for exactly same device !! waste of resources is all I can see

Were you fooled by the “TFT” again?

Posted by randomuser
Z1 Compact comes with IPS screen only, don't fret

Sony Mobile never mentions panel type. Even Tablet Z screen is listed as TFT

No more then ok event in terms of smartphones, cause there were nothing really new. i guess from now on ces is no more an event for sony's new flagships.
the Z1c looks great. it seem to have IPS display just like Z1f by looking at the hands on videos - looks sharper with better viewing angles, but maybe sony don't market it as IPS to the international consumers? if so, why is that? gsm arena also says it's IPS display. also pocketnow hands on reviewer says the viewing angles are improved from Z1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjyHSwDKtXU . strange thing from sony marketing. maybe they don't want the Z1s display to look inferior in display sheet - but it IS inferior in terms of the display! just look at both displays side by side.
another thing, Z1s turned out to be t mobile version and not exactly like the rumor here said... so what is Z1 true refresh name going to be? "Z1 pro"? or "Z2" after all? i bet we will find out for sure at MWC - sirius, canopus, new tablet z and smartwatch 3.
2 good signs: Z1c by the look of it is a sign that sony is starting to take display criticism more seriously and i sense 32 gb of Z1s is going to be standard in all sony future flagships.
EDIT: If anyone still don't believe it's IPS - mobile review also says it is: http://www.mobile-review.com/[....]ony-xperia-z1-compact.shtml#s2 "IPS-display diagonal of 4.3 inches, a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, viewing angles are better than the Z1, tilt the image is not so much fade. I have sworn never to say anything about Sony displays until smartphones on sale - see what will be installed in commercial samples."
"By the way, the screen can be operated with gloves, wet hands, this feature of the compact version." - gloves mode also made its way from Z1f - is it another sign as standard for future flagships?

There is Z1 NO refresh

No more devices related to Z1. So let's forget Z1 now here on
[ This Message was edited by: randomuser on 2014-01-07 11:43 ]

@randomuser
if you read carfully what i wrote, obviously i meant that the Z1s is not sirius like the rumor floated here and there. yes it's a really minor refresh, but not the true refresh to Z1 - CES was the place for new flagships. was the place. anyway, a good move by sony. from IFA to CES there is not even half a year. MWC is a sweet spot to announce a true refresh/new flagship, considering sony is still going with half a year strategy. rumors suggested that since "avatar" rumor in september. "march-april release"

The only things now that Sony should change is the low internal memory, larger software team for earlier adoption of latest Android version, faster updates and better overall software including the camera and remove or improve that shatter-proof, fingerprint-magnet film.

Posted by ascariss
Rather disappointed with Sony at this year's CES, a let down. No z tab refresh and no small 8 inch windows tablet. looks like the z tab refresh will occur in either Japan first or at MWC.

Posted by Away
One feels disappointed when something delivers below expectation. No one expected a tab at CES. You might a well feel disappointed they haven't announced a helicopter surround sound system.

By the way, I just remembered, the keynote is later, let's see what that brings!

@evleaks: Sony Sirius (2014 flagship) tipped for MWC debut: 5.2-inch display, MSM8974AB SoC, and a home on Verizon in the US.

@evleaks: Sony Castor: an MSM8974AB-powered tablet, in 4G and Wi-Fi flavors.

I think it's because Sony believes the trouble is worth it, to get into the US market. We can't blame them for that; they really need to increase their presence there & US carriers seem to be extremely particular about what they want. So if Sony has to jump through a few hoops to gain a foothold there, they no doubt, will.

Posted by amirprog
@FMW300
they will increase their usa support probably from next year... they said they are not investing in usa for now.

anyway. the Z1 Compact is the star of CES in terms of smartphones. i don't see any other phone that comes close to what it offers. flagship specs in compact design. pretty amazing. and IPS display, waterproof, gloves mode, premium design, decent camera, etc. the perfect phone for people who doesn't like 5" display phones but want to latest specs. in my opinion it takes the flagship status from Z1.

I'm more referring to a windows 8 tablet, that is smaller than the vaio tap, and less so the tab z refresh.

I noticed Sony naming scheme has gotten worst. Who comes up with those names. Z1 Compact, Z1s. Sounds weird.
Hope Sony can improve on that part.
