So, windows?

What we know is Sony won't take it unless it can push it's services on it. Which means Microsoft will become more open?

windows phone may just be another line of VAIO or convergence. Sony can probably breath easier in windows phone market than Android market as competition is not as intense.

it's also possible that Sony won't have to update windows phones because M$ doesn't want to, so maintenance costs is probably much much lower than Android.

IMO Xperia Z1 looks more natural but Z1f has better viewing angles

Z1 has been their best-selling smartphone ever? Any ideas how good it has been selling so far?

Sony may release a Windows Phone in 2014, according to The Information

Sony is considering launching a Windows Phone sometime next year, according to a new report from The Information. If true, such a move would break Sony's current loyalty to Android and give Nokia some fresh competition in the Windows Phone segment. Both sides have reportedly held numerous discussions, with Sony going so far as to draw up designs for a prototype device. Any future product could be branded under Sony's Vaio line, according to The Information.

Hell no. Nokia, I mean Microsoft has that market for their own. And I have a bad feeling about Microsoft luring Sony closer to them. Just look at what they did to Nokia, they planted Elop in and eventually bought the company.

you never know if someone already plant a trojan in M$ already. perhaps the master plan is to kick everyone out of Windows OS with all the none sense and keep dropping support for Windows phones with older version of Windows

Better than HTC One, Moto X, Nokia Lumia 1020 and LG G2 definitely for sure.

Don't think Microsoft is any position to buy up Sony, let alone the rest of the Sony group. Sony wouldn't give up it's mobile division, as it is a core group for them in transmitting their content to consumers.

Read the work "CONTINUE". Is like I'm saying I'm continuing to use this shampoo but I'm going to use another one. Don't make sense at all.

You've always never been married or had a woman love with you more than a year as your spouse. If you still love at home with parents, take a look at your mothers shampoo, then under the sink and count how many shampoos she uses then tell me that it doesn't make sense even though you've counted more than 1 shampoo being used lol.

Continue means continue not exclusive or non replaceable. As in I continue to knock this one girls boots but I'll still check another for the same thing - neither are exclusive but I still can continue to have one on my arm more than another and be open to a new girl haut as they are to tier guys.

I prefer Sony buys HTC and let MS alone in the dark with Nokia...

BTW... the CM team is working hard to market their CM Phone... At first I thought it will be just like any other CM ROM when installed in any phone... but now the story is different... a CM phone will enable all the features and special features that the manufacturer advertise on their phone, just with CM UI and framework...

What does that mean ?
It's mean If Sony hired CM to handle and take care of their Software, You will be able to see faster updates, future rich phone with All Sony magic ( like Bravia, Stamina ) intact... and as part of the deal CM could design a Sony theme for their launcher so the launcher will look like any other Sony phone with all Sony features and magic.. but also with all CM ROM features ( or at least most of it, of course it won't be rooted and you will not see over clocking options also )

I liked the idea of CM, if Sony If sony can talk to them and try it on one of their phones... like the next Z1s ( Google Play Edition & CM Edition ) and see how it perform and how CM can manage updates also...

CM used to be free, non-profit and non-commercial. they are starting to cross the line

I really love to see SONY buying HTC, it will be a great hit on MS face, and can make forexample
Vaio for MS
Xperia for Android
HTC for Mozilla or Ubuntu

Looking here, I see a dual SIM and a single SIM version of the E1 with Global bands 1, 2 and 5 (D2104, D2004) and Chinese bands 1 and 8 (D2105, D2005). So, how about the one with the DTV? I'm thinking about a Digital TV, dunno though.

Xperia E1 Dual = Falcon_DS = D210X
Xperia E1 = Falcon_SS = D200X

Interesting. In 2013, the base model was the Xperia E (Dual) (C150X (C160X)). So, if the E-Series is still going to be the gateway to the world of Xperia in the future, it either means Sony gave up on quantity and tries quality and it is upgraded exponentially because of the higher model number or there will be a new base model...

I think it would be really smart to create a true competitor to the Moto G. Of course, we have devices that beat it in paper, but the battery is still truly awesome and it is SO cheap. No one has something to fight it. So, yeah.

Moto G like specs, same or lower price, quick worldwide availability...

Why would be that worth to investment for such a collapsing company?

They bleeding for year, not only profit are gone but good hands of engineer team too.

Instead, it maybe better to get some dip on BlackBerry's patent portfolio for a security reason.

when was google non-commercial? they started from ads.

on the other hand, CM had collected donations of resources, volunteer's work and money. it will be a blow to people if CM brought all of that with them to start a business.

Press conference on January 14. 2014.

Posted by itsjustJOH
^CES 2014 in 3-4 days, another Chinese event on the 14th (hopefully not another anime sheet), we still have no clue about what's gonna be announced.

Posted by ascariss
Press event for Sony at CES is January 6th, at 17:00 local time, which is pacific standard time, so 17:00 would be 2 am in Europe. Guess I won't be watching it live this year during the stream.

Posted by Gitaroo
text says new product release, and based on those color, probably Z1F for China market.

This silence can look bad if you are here every single minute of the day (I'm not saying someone actually do this lol), but Esato servers are going to blow once the devices are shown.

Completely new devices, that no one had no idea about. Has this ever happened before, with a big OEM with a flagship? Last year we knew basically everything about the Nexus 5 and Moto X, oh and Xperia Z, of course . The event to show it was almost a formality only.

Posted by goldenface
It happened with the Xperia V. That was a total surprise and got more attention than the intended flagship.

Posted by XperiaJunkie
With the announcement of the Z1 mini virtually a dead cert for CES I wonder how many people who took a 2 year plan will want to upgrade from their Xperia S. (wow it almost 2 years since its announcement) to the Z1 mini. Personally I think there will be quite a few especially those that don't like larger phones and with the dimensions almost exactly the same I was wondering if any Xperia S users are looking at the Z1 mini as your next Xperia Smartphone

XPERIA S - 64mm x 128mm x 10.6 mm and weighs 144g
XPERIA Z1 mini - 65 mm × 127mm × 9.4mm and weighs 140g
Both 720p displays @ 4.3“ and 342 PPI it's really only down to internal hardware were these 2 differ manly the CPU and camera.

*raises hand*

The question should be, who doesn't want to upgrade from their Xperia S .

Posted by mzr7
I'd probably replace my S too!

Posted by Felimenta97
The question for me isn't IF, but WHEN I will update.

Just need for it to be sold on Amazon US and I will get it and sell my XS, somehow...

Posted by supercoolman
it's uncertain if Z1 mini will come to US in time without another 6 months of wait. Z1 is only available with full retail price as of now, after 3 months of its global release.

Posted by jonfensu
According with Digi-Wo the press conference on 14 January is for Z1 mini Chinese version (M51w).And, we could see , in CES, the Z1 mini International version. Is it right?

I heard that there would be no flagship device announced on CES. So just hold your horse and wait a bit longer. The new flagship might be released by Mar to Apr.

Is this the bluetooth wrist accessory Sony patent earlier???

Well, Xperia S took A LOT of time to be released in US too, but it was on Amazon US since April, most likely shipped from France (as all the paper that cane with it were in that language, just like the default language when I first set up the phone).

It doesn't need to be officially in US, just being sold trough Amazon.

Anyway, can't wait for it...

Official info about CES2014 by Sony

http://blog.sony.com/2014/01/ces-2014-is-almost-here/

here's the text:

CES 2014 is Almost Here!
by Reena 01/03/2014

CES 2014 is almost here! We’re finishing up booth construction and we’ll be ready for you when the show floor opens early next week.

Don’t forget; we will be livestreaming our press conference at 5 p.m. on Monday January 6th.

Stay tuned!

Posted by CrownedAkuma
Some things:
1) the booth looks fantastic with that circular thing over it
2) I expect the Z1 international, obviously, and also some surprises
3) the colours flowing in the circular thing are obviously the Xperia's Flow Theme right? but is it me or those colour are slightly different from the FWhite flow wallpaper in the Z1 and thee Zultra?

could this be from the 4.4 update? new wallpapers and a renewed UI incoming? with a new device nobody is expecting?

PS: sorry for the double post but I wanted to leave the other post clean, with only information directly from sony..

...S805 is sampling for OEMs in Q1 with mass shipments at the end of Q2. Part of the reason Sony shifted their flagship to the second half was to ensure they would benefit from the latest chipsets and it's also why Samsung have the Note series in the second half...

Thanks to based zomgbbqftw, though I'm not sure if he refers to the Z1 or its successor.

Edit:

...I don't see it though as H2 has too much competition with Apple, Samsung and Sony all releasing flagship devices.

...Sony are working in a 1/2" sized sensor and maintaining it at 20mp...

@Detox
I think that he said his prediction and that is no inside info. nobody knows much these days. the rumors support 1H flagship refresh.
i have no doubt that the "refresh" will have snapdragon 805. if sony can't make it with 805 for CES then they will make it for MWC. i don't see any point to release a new flagship or "refresh" with the same processor. it never happened in the past and it won't happen now. 805 is predicted for 1H devices and it's successor for 2H, just like S4 pro/600 and 800. it's not likely that qualcomm is going to offer 805 for the entire year. they need 64 bit for 2H. samsung and apple already got to 64 bit.
when you look for answers look at the past.

^Qualcomm will be demoing it on CES so I guess it won't be announced in a device until a month or two after, so I think early Q2 announcement and mid to late Q2 release.

Posted by amirprog
@itsjustJOH
MWC is in the end of February, so it's probably either there or at a special event a bit after (i doubt that).

Xperia Arc (MSM8255, 1.0 GHz) -> Xperia Arc S (MSM8255T, 1.4 GHz)
Xperia S (MSM8260, 1.5 GHz) -> Xperia SL (MSM8260, 1.7 GHz)

Also, Qualcomm are working on revised Snapdragon 800 chips, 8974-AB (2.4 GHz) and 8974-AC (2.5 GHz). I'm just saying, don't get your hopes up. If it turns out to be right, then even better .
