Hope everyone is enjoying their GS4s, so far thoroughly enjoying mine, so much so I got a few HD games, namely: Grand Theft Auto 3, Real Racing 3, and Downhill Xtreme, all play beautifully and look stunning on the 1080P display, I'm not big on gaming, although I am a huge GTA fan, going back to GTA2 on PS1, shocked at how PS2-like GTA3 looks, it's actually smoother on the phone.

I'm also using Go Launcher, although I'll probably head back to TouchWiz again as I usually do, but I'm enjoying just dabbling around, I've been a Go Launcher fan for some time, I just like the customizability and effeciency of this launcher and whenever I get bored of TW I bring back GoLauncher for a bit. My current setup:

Simple, functional and informative, just the way I like it.

Love that track Get Lucky on your music

Thanks mate, it's an awesome song, I'm a big Daft Punk and Pharrell fan, more Pharrell though.

All
Sweet ad by Samsung USA showing off some more features:

Must say, I am impressed by the Smart Pause feature, it does work pretty well, except when in a very dark place.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is official: thin waterproof 5" Full HD
goodness

http://www.phonearena.com/new[....]oof-5-Full-HD-goodness_id43699

It is literally a GS4 with IP67 certification and 8MP Camera, great going by Samsung, I thought it would have an inferior CPU/GPU to the normal GS4, I guess it's safe to say Samsung are going to have a great year, they are attacking at all fronts with the GNote2, GS4, GS4 Active, GS4 Mini and GAce3, a clearly defined 2013 product portfolio, now we are just waiting to see that GNote3.

Samsung has thrown in the "Glove Touch" mode, which lets you operate the display with mittens on, and the "Aqua Mode" in the camera app interface, which helps make better underwater pictures and video. Long-press the volume key up, and the powerful LED light becomes a torch, and that same volume rocker down can be used as a camera shutter key directly from locked mode.

I like how they've paid that extra bit of attention with this, and with all the sensors in the GS4 I look forward to seeing what more will be done they have quite literally shat on the competition here.

Great news I like the use of physical buttons, makes it easier to use when training. Using the volumerocker as shortcuts for the torch and the camera is brilliant Hope that function comes to the original S4

No fugly flaps anywhere unlike Sony waterproof models

Posted by rickster2kuk
Still, real shame they had to downgrade the camera. Don't know why that was.

Posted by Bonovox
Yeah but 13 to 8 megs if the image processing is good then you can hardly notice. Remember it's not all about the MP

Awesome! Trust Samsung to fix their own mess up whilest also fixing Google's one. Personally, I will not need Apps to SD, as my GS4 32GB still has just over 17GB of internal space left despite all the apps, HD games and other stuff sitting in it, but this is a welcomed feature I'm looking forward to this update.

One thing I cant get my head round about when people are continually trying out new custom software, how do you go about installing apps ? surely it gets annoying constantly reinstalling apps and restoring settings.

I don't know about you guys, but once ive had my phone for a while it takes hours or days to get all my apps installed again and the phone setup how I like it.

If you root, then it's very easy, Titanium backup can restore all your apps including settings in matter of minutes...

and if you're just reverting to the exact same software you're using then a recovery backup is faster...

When I want to test new mod. or ROM I just backup.. test the new ROM or the mod. and if something went wrong or I didn't like it.. just restore the backup.. every thing is back in 3 - 4 minutes !!
but if you're referring to switching between ROM's or installing a new stock ROM from scratch, then Titanium backup can handle all the apps things as far as you're rooted...

Etaab that's one reason why I like my iphone
Backup to the cloud restore, all ur apps are there and other content
Is there

One thing that's abit annoying with iCloud however is you
Only get 5GB storage and u have to pay extra for more really
Does suck, apple need to give us 10gb free maximum

Android need to come up with similar thing I think
It would make life easier for some of you

Tsepz please borrow those gloves and test it
None of us will laugh at u wearing them in the meantime

It's already coming to Android with Google cloud it's now possible to use the cloud to backup apps data, however; it's just new and apps developers will need to implement it in their apps first... and they're giving you a shared 15GB of storage also

but as what Hobbs already mentioned... If you're rooted then you can have multiple ways of doing a backup from single apps backup like using Titanium Backup... or to backing up the whole ROM using a recovery backup... you can any time do a recovery backup, install and test any ROM that is available on the net ( or a ROM you created ), and when you finish with testing... restore your backup and every thing will be back exactly like before.. like you didn't actually changed any thing... the only thing that will change is time and maybe signal strength

Android might be worthwhile then
However The highlight on my iPhone is having
Podcasts, anything on android yet?! Lol

Etaab. iOS isnt that bad just needs a small facelift lol

Super AMOLED doesn't have colour accuracy. I think their either biased or colour blind. Even the AMOLED screen on the Lumia 820 is way off accurate and too strong.

Woke up to a 38.5mb OTA update this morning:

It has taken my GS4 from XXUAMDE to XXUAMDK:

Phone seems to running a lot smoother and faster, haven't noticed any other improvements yet.

I hear the update frees up some memory. About 200mb though so not much.

200mb oh dear I would have thought more than 1 gb

Theres themes on the Playstore which bring similar effects. Apple haven't much of a USP with such a UI novelty.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Very happy with the XXUAMDK update so far, the phone is a lot more responsive I must say, battery life seems to have received a tad bit of a boost to.

WRT to memory, not a big deal for me, I've still got 16GB of mem remaining internally, plus, there is the MEA Update with Apps-to-SD amongst other new features that is rolling out so it's all good.

EDIT:
Almost forgot to mention, the phone seems to use less RAM than in XXUAMDE, not that RAM is ever a problem in the S4, but I've noticed a lot more available RAM in the task manager each time I remember to check.

Galaxy S4 sales again said to be slowing

Although sales of Samsung’s Galaxy S4 got off to a blisteringly fast start , many reports have suggested that sales of the device have started to noticeably slow in recent weeks. And now Digitimes ‘ supply chain sources claim that Samsung has started cutting back component orders for the Galaxy S4 due to “a slowdown in demand” for the device. This doesn’t mean the Galaxy S4 is selling poorly, of course, since Samsung is still ordering enough parts to sell up to 45 million units of its flagship phone over the next two quarters. But as more of the action moves away from high- end devices such as the Galaxy S4 and the iPhone 5 and toward more low-cost devices in emerging markets, Samsung has had to adjust its expectations.

http://bgr.com/2013/06/13/samsung-galaxy-s4-sales-slow/

Seems the industry has totally reached saturation in the top end, we've been flooded with super powerful Galaxys and iPhones in the last 3years and now growth is at the mid to low end, still, 45million S4s by the end of this year??? Thats more than most companies entire 2013 range put together. If last year is anything to go by though, S4 sales could pick up again when the next iPhone arrives...exciting times ahead!

I must admit im not surprised. I mean, where do all these millions of people come from ?

If they sell 10 million, then 50 the following year, then 100, then 200.. ? it simply cannot keep growing otherwise they'll be selling more phones than there are people on the planet.

Of course that's not reality though. Really, Sony are getting slightly stronger, HTC are putting up a decent effort and Nokia are releasing more interesting handsets using WP. The market is saturated with Samsung phones.

Posted by Bonovox
Well Nokia currently hold 4 out of the top ten phones in the US Expansys chart

Maybe we should blame Apples latest iOS for this one

We cant, they've only just announced it long before release and a while after this news broke.

Samsung to release a faster Galaxy S4 with LTE Advanced network support. You just have to wait 2-3 years before your operator has a working LTE Advanced network available.

Very nice

Samsung used to do this a lot a few years back with 3G/HSDPA, I remember they would be among the 1st to bring a new 3G/HSPA standard but back then they did it with random mid range models, I especially remember the HSDPA7.2Mbps phone they launched, it was a flip phone, knew a few people who got it solely for using it as a modem for their laptops.

One thing is for sure, Samsung's R&D dept. is in overdrive, they seem to be experimenting a lot this year, trying to figure out what else will stick, they are not sitting back and simply relying on the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note smartphone and Galaxy Tab sales.
The Galaxy Zoom, S4 Active, Galaxy Mega and Pusha (name of their low ends here in South Africa) line are clearly a way for them to test the waters, they have the money so why not, and the sheer speed at which they can counter a competitors new product is incredible it's even got some Samsung haters rather mad it seems, most companies wish they could operate at the speed and efficiency Samsung do. Next year we'll see which of these expiraments stuck. They really do remind me of the 2005-2007 Nokia.

Well, like I always say when people say such a thing, I wish these companies would invest more money in R&D of battery technology. Can you imagine how many they would sell of a particular device if they could release a product like the S4 versus the HTC One, but with double or triple its battery life ? what if they could release a S4 with 10,000mAh ?

They can try these novelties all they want, but companies like Samsung that make more than just devices should invest more in researching better components.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
+1

Many have been saying that since the early days of smartphones. I'm glad the GS4 can outlast its competitors in battery despite having more sensors and more powerful hardware, but still, companies have a long way to go in this department.

At the same time, I think everything else is evolving so fast due to lower costs of development, batteries and energy in general seems to be just so resource hungry. Even battery powered cars are proving to be difficult and a major money burner, I heard Fisker, the company that made this solar and battery powered beauty, Fisker Karma:

Are now bankrupt not all of it due to energy but it does seem like production costs were astronomical partly due to it not being your regular fossil fuel driven vehicle.

Posted by etaab
I just think if Samsung, HTC or another Android running company were to release a phone which had even double the capacity of its rivals without compromising anything, it would be the one key USP which would totally destroy its rivals.

Then they'd put that technology into their other handsets. I just don't accept my Galaxy S3 as a games machine when I can only play a 3D game for an hour or two and the battery is completely drained. Whats the point ? that doesn't make it a mobile device.
