Hey people. I am thinking of getting the Siemens S55, I really like the look of the phone and the specifications are good, but I am a little concerned about the screen seeing as its only 256 colours. I understand it comes with a camera for MMS, but I wont be using that all that often as I have a digital camera for proper photos. What do backgrounds and pictures look like on the screen, do they look terrible? Also, what do you think of the phone in general, are there any problems with it? Whats the java like, are there any problems with downloading games? Thanks in advance.

same screen as T68, rubbish...both of them, really

The screen on the S55 is actually worse than the T68i...Trust me, both of 'em suck...otherwise a great phone though

Stay away its worse then the 68i nobody beats nokia with those bright vivid colors . I use the 6100.

I had 13 months a T68m and now I’m using a S55 since December last year.
About the S55 screen, with the same amount of colours, if you use .jpg background, the result on the S55 is worse than the T68. However, if you use .bmp background, the result is a lot better than the T68.
But obviously the 4096 Nokia colours are much nicer.
And if you look to all the other features, the S55 is in every single point a lot better than the T68 and, by the way, than any Nokia on the market today.
In fact, I miss just two very small things from my T68. The first one is the possibility to set a small font (with the S55 you can have a very tiny font when browsing Wap pages…), and the second is the “time left” in hours for the battery…

I'm happy with my s55 and t68i. The features of these phones far outweigh the lack of colour definition for me. Certainly wouldn't bother with a nokia, better off with an s55.

believe me if you want bright vivid colourscreen you buy a samsung or nec, if you want a cool but 13 in a dozen phone you buy a nokia. and if you want a top quality mobile you get the s55 or t68i

Well said Verko, hit the nail on the head there. Even the age it is now, t68 is still one of the best featured phones today. S55 just has those ample of extras that would be nice on the t68. The screens are fine and do the job. Just al depends what ou want from your phone.

So far, (got my S55 last friday) i think it´s nicer overall than the t68i
two small gripes: I would really like to have my contacts sorted with first name first but i can live with that. Also at least on my phone, the keys require slightly different pressure, that is, left row 1 4 7 * require a bit harder pressure than the others. About the screen: A guy who works at a local Telia store told me the screen itself is identical to the SE one, so so much for one being worse than the other..
I am not impressed by the new Nokia screens either.. more colors, yes, but they look faded when viewing photos. Not very vivid at all.
The ultimate screen has got to be the Panasonic GD89(?) the clamshell one anyway. THAT´S a nice screen! Don´t care much for the rest though. As i see it the S55 is outstanding value for money..

@ThreeX, The phonebook system in all mobiles can be overridden by putting all your contacts in withy a number infront:
01, mark
02,jane
03
04
05
06
07
08
09
10
11
This way YOU decide the order & it`s the same in any phone you put your sim into (you have to use 01,02 ETC otherwise the phone puts 11 before 1).

@pachy
Interesting, but what does Outlook say when syncing? Doesn´t it want to correct it and/or complains loudly?
Posted by Rolud
@ThreeX
I’m not sure if you can do that with the S55, but…:
try to change the fields mapping between XTNDConnect and the S55, with "Name = Firstname" and "Firstname = Name"… it may work the way you’ll like…!!!
I did that before to have the “right” order in my T68 when syncing with my Clié… worked well…!!

The system i use is because i have different phones and about 4 active sims from different providers, with the numeric system i can have exactly the same phonebook on all the same sims, you will have to try sync yourself, as i havn`t got an s55, but basically i do it this way because it`s an easy way to have a "backup" on all my sims, also any pc or phone that sorts info into an order has to give preferance to either numbers or letters & i find they all give it to numbers first.
Finally as NOTHING is ever perfect, i just thought you may like to know how kept an orderly phonebook EVEN while swopping sims to different phones.

@pachy
Thanks for the tips, i will see if i readjust to new order or "do it by numbers"
Thanks anyway!

OK I am seriously considering getting the Siemens S55 now. I have one last query. On my SE T65, T9 text input is extremely slow and very annoying. What is the T9 input speed like on the Siemens S55? Is it as fast as a Nokia 7110 (instant)? Thanks in advance.

T9 on S55 is faster then on a T65 but the S55 of my friend has some SMS bugs. i would wait or get another phone.

Due to the fact my parents are buying the phone for me, and they can only buy it from one catalogue, I have a choice of either a Nokia 7210 or a Siemens S55. Which do you think is better and why?
Posted by bart
between those 2 i would go for the S55.
isn't there a t68i in it?
Posted by virtualtears
No, and if there was a T68i in it, I wouldnt get it anyway. I don't like the phone very much.
Posted by bart
okay well thats your personal feeling.
does the siemens cam come whit the S55?
Posted by virtualtears
Yes, the camera is included in the package.
Posted by bart
then i would go for the S55 if you don't like the T68.
the S55 is better then 7210 in most ways.

I am a little concerned about some reports I've been reading about the S55 where button presses havent been recognised by the phone. That cant be good. The only other gripe I have really is the screen. I've had a play around with the Nokia 7210, contrary to what most people think on this board its actually not a bad phone. It has all the features I would use (I dont need bluetooth, not for the moment anyway) and the screen is good. Can't say I have had much luck with Nokias though, thats why I am contemplating getting the S55, seeing as I've tried Nokia and Ericsson and havent been very impressed with either really.

if i had the chanse of choosing between those 2 i would go for S55. 7210 nice design but after awile its boring. 6610 is better but the functions and the nokia in the phone bug me.

At least in Sweden you can´t beat the S55 when it comes to features per $..
I haven´t noticed any "SMS-bugs", it´s very fast and responsive, the only thing "wrong" in my phone is that the left key-row (1,4,7,*) require slightly harder pressure than the other keyes. (Is that perhaps what you meant by keys not responding?)
Finally (my opinion) The Nokkie screens look water damaged to me.. no saturation whatsoever! I was in Vodafonestore yesterday and did a side by side comparison and the 3800+ colors in the Nokia sure didn´t show! The S55 screen is in no way perfect but it´s at least as good as the t68i and that´s good enough for me. I also like the fact that the S55 doesn´t have a flimsy creaky replaceable shell. The choice wasn´t hard for me but in the end it´s up to your personal preferences i guess.
Cheers!
