Why is there no longer a dedicated camera button on most phones? The Galaxy Note 2 for instance is a large phone/small tablet which could very well do with a button for the camera. I find it much easier for taking pictures with the button than having to touch the on screen button.

Phones becoming too thin?? That's another thing I love about Windows phones,Microsoft always demand to put in a camera key. But besides that maybe it's just touch screen generation,everything is now done by touch screen bar a few side buttons. And phones become so skinny. But saying that the Arc had a camera key albeit a stiff one. I am sure it does not cost much more to make a camera key

I do find I shake a bit more without a camera key and it's harder to take mug shots of yourself too

I find I also shake more without the camera key as well that is my main reason for wanting it back on the phone. As for being thin there is a power button on them so if they are wide enough for a power button I see no difficulty in putting a dedicated camera button back on the phones.
Oh as for those mugshots, oh yes, another difficulty. Try turning the screen away from you while also trying to touch the onscreen camera button to take a good "mugshot." Not the easiest thing to do at all.
They should put the button back on.

Yes,if you want a decent mugshot of yourself a front facing camera is crap quality normally. I remember I took a photo of myself(am bit vain) with the first Galaxy S phone. I kept getting my finger in the way and could not find the capture button on screen

I actually find it easier using the on-screen button. I touch to focus and do not release my thumb until I want to take the picture and like that I find it easier to keep the camera still

I am touch focused as well but taking shots with the screen turned away from you is not as easy as with the button.

It depends on what you're taking. I find if the camera is very speedy then touch screen is fine. Still prefer a button like a proper camera

I also prefer to use a hardware key rather than onscreen button. The Nokia N8 for example has the option to use both.
But i use the actual button.
Btw, if you want to take a self portrait i find rather than using a lower resolution front facing camera i just stick the main camera on self timer. Five seconds usually does it for me. Seems obvious to use this function for such a purpose.
