Have you seen the Cnet review for Xperia L? It's obviously inaccurate; it says non-expandable storage and the price is stated as 10 pounds less than Nexus 4 and performance is described as lackluster.

Should people still take CNET reviews seriously? That'd be shocking

Slow talk?

Posted by CrownedAkuma
@Goldenface
The Calm before the Storm:D
-25days

Now I get it... What Is th Slow Talk option... Interesting!
EDIT:
I founded this on a Panasonic product... I think it's something like this!
"KX-NT700 Panasonic Conference Phone...
...Real Time Slow Talk:
A Panasonic exclusive! This ingenious feature allows you to easily understand a fast talker by slowing down spoken words while shortening the silent intervals between them. Avoids wasted time caused by asking conference participants to repeat themselves. Slow-talk is an amazing feature not available on any other conference phone. One touch button will slow down the speech and let you understand the caller clearer than ever before."

@XperiaCube
Really interesting this things about the new UI... (Even in already posted:P )
Nonetheless... Will there not be problem with privacy law with the option to register the Phone Call??
I like the white UI (even if I would like the option to turn it Black:P )!

Definitely sounds interesting and useful.

In terms of customization I'd love to have such a "center"/option in android to e.g. turn the background color for settings etc. from white to black or even other colors/themes.
-> I like what I'm seeing from LG with the LG G2. You can even customize the number and position of the on-screen-buttons

japanese version of honami has gone through the FCC..

it's getting closer!!! less than a month to go. i guess there aren't any real leaks to take the wind out of LG's G2 sails, which is a shame but isn't. As much as I want to know more, it'll be nice to be wowed and surprised on sept. 4.

Seems like ZU screen is currently the best in the market and I believe Honami will be even better. Seems like screen is the new camera.

I think that even it if turns out to be the best screen currently available there will be some that will say that certain maker has better screen on its devices
Would love to see thorough review by Anand Lal Shimpi and Brain Klug of the Z Ultra and Honami. Their reviews in my opinion are the most detailed and informative. Besides, it would help Sony gain some additional media attention due to the anandtech's popularity.

Sorry, for slight OT

The point is they didn't rip it off, it even includes pop up video yet don't see people spewing utter crap saying they ripped off Samsung:
https://www.youtube.com/watch[....]4&feature=youtube_gdata_player

LG has done a great job implementing their own multitasking yet here you are simply claiming that its taken from Sony. The only 'troll' here is you making utter BS claims, of course I'll be seen as a troll for disagreeing with a Sony fan, but to simply say LG has ripped this from Sony is hilarious. Why not just appreciate LG, Samsung and Sony's multitasking implementations the way they are, all 3 have brought an interesting take on it.

The advantage of wider color gamut with Triluminos is clearly visible on the comparison samples from Xperiablog.

Just ignore that South African guy. If America courts agree that rectangles is a innovation that should be protected, I'm sure small app should be.

When we showed that Sony came up with the general idea, he immediately switch to "hey, Samsung copied LG's shit and we must all embrace each other's creation". Poor ppl.

In your defense - rip-off is too much to say. It's just that Sony was first with this kind of small apps running on top of the UI and they even released all needed documentations and sample codes to start making 3rd party small apps, where LG only took the same idea included it in their custom launcher and added translucency slider. The whole concept is identical so in a way it is a rip-off but this is the way this market works.
And well, video pop up player is something that is available for all devices through diceplayer

And if we're talking about multitasking implementations my favorite one is made by rockchip, it allow to run all apps in overlaid window or maximize it to full screen. Just like on normal PC.
I won't google it for you, so if you want to see what I'm talking about jsut search

Posted by ascariss
I feel Sony learned from the screen problems that they had in previous models and not only for xperia, even the screens on the current vaios are fantastic.

Posted by kurtdean
@Tsepz

Sony tablet s has small apps way before samsung has pop up video so sony created the concept. You're still a troll no matter what

Posted by CrownedAkuma
Well well... The comparison it's eye-blowing! ZU completely erase the One display!:) these two pictures especially speak for themselves! The color gamut it's in another league, still mataining the colours true to reality (no AMOLED effect)... It's crispier and livier!:D and there's not even x-Reality on that unit! Just BE2!
Really hope Honami wi have the same screen, or a better one even!
My grudges with the Z where display, flap on the 3,5 jack and the speaker! And they seem to be all resolved in the Hobami:) YAHOOOO!

Any info about the display on Honami ? More specifically, will it be IGZO ?

I've had the pleasure of playing with Z Ultra in the Sony store Beijing and it is a masterpiece handset, if slightly large for my needs and taste. If Honami is basically Z Ultra Mini with a better camera, I'm all for it.

I may have to close my eyes for the next 12 months so I'm not tempted to blow any cash on it and whatever comes in 1H14. I can't afford to spend needlessly now I have a couple new additions to my family coming.

@ ramu and ambivalent does honami'se camera also make pictures with wider color gamut to take the best use of the screen?

@MartenR
Colors are responsible for vibrance, the higher the color gamut, the more saturated it appears while maintaining dynamic range. you check the circled portions of the image below and see why I said that

Eh? Come again? Samsung copied LG's shit? Where did I say that?
In actual fact, don't bother, you may just throw in more rubbish.

Wishmaster
I know exactly what you're talking about, Samsung has implemented something like that in the Note10.1, and some Samsung GS and Note custom ROMs have it. Saying its a rip off WRT LG isn't right though, LG added their own customizations as you've pointed out and have taken it their own way, isn't that how the entire industry works? Someone creates something and others come in and create similar things with diff implementations, if not, then EVERY Android is a iPhone rip-off.

kurtdean
What does pop up video and what the tablet s brought have to do with anything??? You are now mixing two different points. The Tablet S arrived in August right? So did the Note2, so nobody really "ripped off" anybody. You need to get over this.

Only question is the s800 powerful enough to handle 10-bit encoded 1080p mkv's? Because 10-bit and triluminous would be perfect combination although I'm perfectly fine with the usual 8 bit videos, I do have a couple of 10-bit videos and it would be nice if the s800 can play it so I don't have to re-encode.

I think it's the lack of dedicated video decoding engine that hampers the performance of even the top of the line SoCs when working with 10Bit videos. in particular Qualcomm should partner with AMD in developing their very own UVD decoder engine for Snapdragon chipsets. I still have my old backup PC with ancient HD4200 GPU, and yet it plays any video formats I throw into it, 10Bit shows included, unless I enforce smooth video playback on the Catalyst control panel which will definitely choke it to death

Posted by randomuser
Please stop the individual attacks. Doesn't look good at all. This is a rumor thread to discuss upcoming Xperia devices and the reason we discuss in the first place is we all love Sony smartphones or are at least interested in them. That is a uniting factor, it's silly to fight amongst ourselves this way just because of a troll post
[ This Message was edited by: randomuser on 2013-08-10 16:16 ]

@razec

Well as far as I know, currently there is no hardware solution for 10 bit, which is why everything falls back to software decoding mode which chokes mobile processors to death , I am hoping the s800 is fast enough to decode it even on software decoding.

If AMD would develop APU's for mobile sector with those decoders on, I think that would be great.

For smartphones with removable battery it would be a good idea to also include a small internal battery and use it when you want to change the decharged battery with a charged one. This way you can change the battery without needing to turn it off.

@reeflotz
Exactly, I don't know why but nvidia should've had the upper hand with this, their HW video decoders are on par with AMD's and their Tegra chips are developed in parallel with their GeForce. the kepler based tegra should have a proper HW decoder and should outperform their old VP3 decoder found on the ancient nvidia ION GPU.

@MartenR:

Great insight there mate suddenly I remember my old T610 which had a dedicated battery that keeps the clock ticking even with the main battery removed. that was one selling point among 's over Nokia smartphones back in the days

kind of like a Computer UPS? but inside the phone? Although with most waterproof Sony phones, now have non removable battery, to prevent gaskets from failing due to usage. So far the only Sony devices which have good waterproofing are their compact cameras, I have no idea about how good the waterproofing on ZU and ZR is yet, hopefully honami does end up with ip rating the same as ZU or better because 1m is only around 3.28 feet, most swimming pools are 6 feet deep.

Next year Sony should strive at developing weatherproof smartphones to up their level. with this they can rekindle the reputation they used to have for having tough products that lasts long time regardless of abuse that they get from their user
