Do you remember the good old days when most of GSM phones had a single band? Just 900 MHz and that's all.

Then came dual-band phones: 900 and 1800 MHz. And then... tri-band GSM phone! The pioneer was Motorola Timeport L7089: GSM 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz. Wow... three GSM frequencies with an automatic switch! What a special phone!

I searched from net and found (www.mobilephonehistory.co.uk) that world's first tri-band GSM phone Motorola Timeport L7089 was launched in the year 1999.

Now, only 13 years later I read from Esato news about Nokia Lumia 820 and 920:

• Networks: GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA/HSPA 850/900/1900/2100, LTE 800/900/1800/2100/2600

It means 3 mobile systems with a total of 13 frequencies!!! [Plus antenna for wifi, bluetooth, gps, nfc and radio] Can you believe it?!

Nokia has been particular generous with providing their phones with multi-bands. Nokia phones often have 2-3 more bands more than the current phones from the competitors. And it has always been like this.
