As a galaxy s2 user I am of course first and foremost concerned about whether the SGS2 can take JB and i believe it can and whether Samsung will update them to JB or only later model phones such as the SGS3?

Thoughts, questions anyone on which phones will get it? Most dual core phones should be future proof right guys and gals?

The phones that are in time with the 18 moths agreement?

XDA will come to our rescue if Samsung don't release it for the S2
so I'm not that all concerned.

Posted by randomuser
I doubt GS2 will get JB going by Samsung's recent history of Android updates
Anyway, Xperia S is confirmed to get JB.

What on earth are you on about??? The Galaxy S went from 2.1 to 2.2.1 to 2.3.4 to 2.3.6, and its last update was in April this year, i cant think of any other 2010 Android except the Desire HD that has recieved an update this year, going by that and the GS2's success, we should see GS2 and GNote getting Android4.1 JB, much to the dismay of Samsung haters, especially around here.

On the other hand i wonder how long it will take Sony to release 4.1 after seeing how long it has taken for 4.0 to arrive to their 1st 2012 phone.

Well despite the slow updates the xperia x10 got well supported. quite well up from 1.6 to 2.3.3 so that's pretty much the same as the galaxy s! Sony or Se have done a fine. job updating the majority of their 2011 lineup to ICS which is the most phones to ICS compared to all android OEMs!

I think any device that has 4.0 should and will be updated to 4.1, and IMO, all 2011 se users deserve this update. The 4.0 update was really bad, and 4.1 update is focused on performance.

Also s2 will definitely get jellybean, Samsung does support their flagship devices well.

@chunkybeats,
X10 was released with 1.6 when 2.1 was current, intact 2.2 came out within months of x10. Finally after a big commotion they decided to get 2.3.3 on board.

Also I would never consider the ics update which Sony brought to 2012 devices as an update because it's more of a catching up. The real update should be when they get out 4.1. This is of course just my opinion.

P.s -sorry about the whole post being jumbled up.

I hope they can "hear" you!!!!!

Any device with specs which are comparable to the current Nexus (Galaxy Nexus S) which is getting JB SHOULD get JB as well, from a technical point of view. However, what should happen and what actually happens are two different things, in different worlds, especially when it comes to Android updates and the OEMs. I think its about economics, and the desire by OEMs to get us to get new devices and push their sales. Unless there is a huge outcry, as was the case with the HTC Desire and the on-again-off-gain GB update, the OEMs will turn a blind eye.

I think it's crazy that while OEMs are struggling to get ICS out and with it's relatively low adoption rate, JB is upon us! Seriously? If the Nexus devices had cutting edge tech (the camera on the current Nexus is pitiful, not to mention issues with signal and other well documented issues), I would just stick with them to guarantee getting updates at least.

I tell you what it looks smooth. Android looking lag free for first time. See this video

Was doing a Google search WRT the GS2 and which JB FW is the very latest one as my GS2 is showing that it has a OTA Update and came across this thread...

Rather interesting how things have turned out...

Had a good laugh at the following:

Think the GS2 is now on it's 2nd revision of the JB update... Xperia S?

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 has JB now. Another budget Sammy updated

Wow, that's impressive work by Samsung! I also read that the LG Optimus 4X HD began receiving JB last week, so that's three of the four major 2012 Android flagships (Samsung GS3, HTC One X, LG Optimus 4X) with Android JB, Xperia S being the only one left, seems I was also correct about the long wait for XS update.

Tsepz, real nice to see where we are at now with the GS2. Very interesting

Quit clowning around. You conveniently 'forget' to mention the Xperia T and V. And even the optimus g. And I would wait slightly longer for a better update. The S user's complaints will stop when it rolls out because they'll realise their update is better than the others.

If I mentioned T, V and Optimus G I'd then also have to mention GS3 LTE AND GNOTE2 which I didn't as I was talking about the initial 2012 flagships, seems you conveniently ignored that, that OR I'll have to go over and above a complete explanation so that you can understand

The S user's complaints will stop when it rolls out because they'll realise their update is better than the others.

there's a better chance of pigs growing wings and flying, you know that, I know that, and everyone else knows that, quit trying to fool yourself.

Apparently the original Galaxy note will be getting Android 4.2 as its last update.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Yep, GS2 and Note1 will end at Android4.2.2, phenomenal support by Samsung, most of the competition; SE Arc/Arc S, Htc Evo 3D, Sensation, LG Optimus 3D and Optimus 2X never made it passed 4.0.4. Thats near Nexus type support when you consider the fact that the only other 2011 Android on 4.2.2 is the Galaxy Nexus, but I'm sure that will go on to get Android5.0.

Posted by skblakee
Importantly too is that most of the phones you mentioned are dual core and were once thought of as "future proof" and therefore would get updates well beyond ICS 4.0.4 even to JB. The LG Optimus 2X for sure as the first dual core should have got a bit further. LG seemed a bit hesitant to update it.

Good to be going back over this thread nearly one year later and comparing.

For a 2010 SOC phone this update is way harder than the rest.
And is good to see that the Guarulhos's spirit still alive here with the peeve against Sony.
Congratulations Tsepez and the rest of Sammy boys.
This kind of comment are really mature and addictive to our knowledge.

Sure, especially knowing that their 4.1 JB update will be released less than a month before Android 5.0 announcement... I think Sony is getting their slowness to entire new level... These are my predictions for Google I/O in May 2013:

Samsung:
"It's just a matter of time the 5.0 update hits all our flagships and numerous budget models, released in the last year and a half!"

Slowpoke Sony:
"Hey, people, came here and take a look, we finally managed to update our entire* 2012 portfolio to the latest Android version - 4.1 JB!

*Of course without Xperia U, Xperia Sola, Xperia Go, Xperia Miro, Xperia Tipo, a few other Xperia's... And in case you're lucky enough to get notification, we advise you not to update your smartphone, because our update is really bad-optimized and contains a variety of bugs, and we're not responsible if you damage or brick or overheat or whatever you do your phone."

I am using Samsung Galaxy Fit (GT-S5670) and Android version is 2.3.6 Gingerbread. Is it possible to change Jelly Bean version?

Posted by tranced
I doubt your phone gets it.

Posted by Bonovox
Galaxy Fit is way too much of a budget phone with hardware that cannot run JB
