Hello once again! This time introduction will be also short. Theme of this month is: Depth of Field. Theme is wide, so no one who really wants to be part of the competition, shouldn’t have problems with participate.

How to aim Deepth of Field? Quite easy. Set focus on the object you want to capture leaving for it some space to get blurry background. You don’t need to have manual focus in your camera. Even the most simple phones are avaible to capture great DOF.

Some inspirations from: Uncle Google

And here are some great examples from our Esato’s community:

Similiar to previous month's, but more interesting. Let's get more creative now

Here's the shorten link in case you need to copy and paste it: The Official Camera Phone Shootout Competition June 2012: "Depth of Field"

Let's start!

I'm good at blurry pics

Good one! I love playing around with depth.. just remember that light (like in most cases) plays a big role.. you can get the object a in the sun, and the background in the shade, and it might exaggerate the bokeh effect a bit.. depending on what you are after.

Either way, this should be fun and relatively easy to do with a phone. Good Luck all!

I will try to get a PureView shot for this.. I should be able to get one before the end of the month

Posted by hihihans
@cu... I was hoping for a pureview entry
Let's see if it's really that good

Posted by io_bg
So basically we have the same theme but with a different name (because of cell phones small sensors and wide optics you can get a smaller DOF only by shooting closer than ~0.5 metres from the lens)

In fact it's very similar topic. Yes, but this time crucial role could have the background not necessarily the main object. Those who participated last month shouldn't have problems with taking the shot.

Some interesting stats from yesterday. Since I'm visitiong General discussions I haven't seen such activity. There are usually average of 10 browsering users.

From this topic. There are usually average of 1-2 browsering users .

@9_Destiny
A reason for the increased activity could be that I re-tweeted tranced post on twitter

Nice move. Maybe someone from twitter will join us

I was thinking of the exact same theme and that it would be similar yet different, since you need to think of the background whereas in a macro shot you only care about the close-up subject.

Hopefully I'll have a shot taken from ICS ... still waiting to see my Sales Item number in the Android update page...

Definetly entering this month, i enjoy taking DOF shots, the X10 used to be amazing at these, its camera captured so much detail, but will use my GS2 for this.

Posted by io_bg
I forgot to add another thing - judging by your example photos, you probably want entries with a shallow depth of field. All photos have a certain depth of field ranging from kilometers in landscape shots to millimetres when shooting with fast and long lenses

Posted by alenn
I also thought if I win (LOL I didn't get any votes, but that doesn't matter ) that I would choose DOF.
Very good theme for this month's contest indeed!

Posted by hihihans
Is nobody interested in themes like Red, Doors or Water anymore? I'm not complaining just noticed a trend from materialistic to emotions and now technical skills.

Sorry but I agree with TeeGee's post from previous monthly competition. Keep that negative crap for yourself.

Been having a rough time a bit lately guys sorry for any harsh words said. Have said sorry to 9_Destiny on PM

Posted by 9_Destiny
It's ok Bono. I've also sent you PM.

Posted by chunkybeats
hey bono hope your old man is keeping well!

This is an awesome idea, well need to see what to do, although the better handsets especially the pureview might wipe every entry out but lets just see how some of you guys creative shooting can do some awesome work!! good luck!!

Posted by hibiskus
idea is very good, but problem is in fact that only 2 phones with variable aperture size are N86 and Zn5 motorola, rest of phones are within 2.0-2.8 f size, so more less we will all have same DoF. But anyway members will get 10 for effort if nothing

Posted by Bonovox
@chunkybeats yes thanks he is doing well

Posted by emporium
made some shots yesterday, it's not so easy

Nice shots indeed.
A big plus for all competitors is that this month a creative shot will make you stand out, more as high quality will.

It's great bokeh and great shot. That's for sure but I'm not sure if it's DOF because all composition is blurry.

Posted by chunkybeats
I was playing around with my phone yesterday trying to get a good DOF. Its winter here so been trying to capture that 'moment', not there yet though!

@ exaflare23. Just place something between you and such bokeh. It could be even a finger and something creative. I think that having both DOF and bokeh will turn your shot automatically as a contender for the win this month.

I love Game of Thrones, I havent read the book but the TV series is amazing! A lot of it shot from my home country (Northern Ireland). Nice to see some awesome stuff happening there. Although I live in Lord of the Rings country (NZ) now lol
