Very good night shots with alot of detail, and real colours.

Congratulations ... seems you're REALLy enjoying this!

Something I'm VERY VERY confused about Android ... something mores than S60 days.

"6. Internal memory - still visible as separate - is around 1,8 MB.
Whole available RAM is around 620 MB, so now about 370MB free. "

^ how does the system determine whats what?
How does this affect me as a new user that is STILL new to Android (coming from iOS/S60 days long ago)?
It seems only the Arc and this have this odd RAM/Storage/Memory half-step business?

Posted by se_dude
He probably meant 1.8GB.
Around half the RAM is reserved for the system while the 670 MB free is used for running the apps , the homescreen, etc.

Of course I meant 1,8 GB!

So, 18GB is left as internal memory for data, app files etc.
Plus almost 26GB of memory card storage available.

640MB means RAM for apps running.
So as 200 - 300 MB is usually used for running apps and services,
you still have the rest available for another apps.

---

Anyway, as I mentioned before, night shots seem nicely detailed without any distortions on edges, something what was sometimes visible on Arc.

There are finally controls over lock screen of some apps and player.

Xperia S also got speedier charger than previous Xperias.

Battery behaves similar to Arc, through the night on idle almost no usage.

Some more:

1. Picasa sync got stuck and there is no way to stop it or renew it.
Does anybody know if there is any process you can stop to help it? Reboot doesn't.

2. The battery went away quite quickly today. I just hope it's a new device and probably my usage is increased just beacuse it's fresh for me.

Honestly doministry, how do you rate the photos compared to the Arc (aside from the Mpx increase)?

Are they pretty much the same?

Honestly didn't have enough time to really compare.

But night shots seem definitely more detailed.

What am I missing?

Does anybody know how to stop this motherf..ckn Picasa Albums Sync?

doministry - Remove the account info?

Some disappointments so far:

1: Buttons. I don't hate them but it's definitely worse than physical buttons.

2. Because of Picasa sync freezed and Calendar not showing older stuff than Feb I think Google Sync is a f..cking mess.

3. Battery - for now - seems worse than Arc but it may be due to a new device

4. Email app works wonderful but allows to attach only pics, music and video (!!!). If you want send a document you have to use Send By option in file manager or Office app, meaning one email = one document. Embarassing indeed.

Three network selling Xperia S for £369. Cheap

Okay thanks to a brilliant guy at Xda
Picasa sync problem resolved!!!

I just had to turn ON autosync and than I got the options to tick/untick things.
Unticked Picasa and the problem looks like resolved!

borg,

How do you rate the display on the Xperia S to the retina display on the ip4?

Posted by borg_
The display of the Xperia S it's better for me

Maybe because of the 4.3 inch screen but side to side i still prefer the Xperia instead of the iPhone

Xperia S seems with better resolution and more eye catching

I mwan hardware buttons are pressed intuitively.

Software ones are not really. As well as it's good they're impossible to be pressed accidentally, they are not working so smoothly.

Thats what i dont like about the current iPhones - their small display size compared to Android flagship phones.

Congrats borg. I prefer how it looks in white. More pictures please.

Could this also be the best Android phone SE / Sony have ever produced ? i certainly think it'll sell better than the X10 or Arc.

From a user at XDA.

- I love the Swype builtin to the keyboard. A nice surprise, but I still prefer the long-press options of Better Keyboard Pro.

- The screen is gorgeous. And I love the neutral whitebalance compared to the Samsung AMOLED screens with their odd turqoise tint.

- Battery life is good once I uninstalled FourSquare (which I don't use anyway)

- Reception is excellent, call quality is excellent. Better than the Arc.

- games fly.

- The SE overlay is simple, clean but prrreeeettty.

Main cons:
- Sony, why oh why can you not place the speaker at the bottom of the phone like the iPhone? Is there some patent thing going on?? Or maybe on the sides like the old SE walkman phone?? I know that having the speakers at the bottom is lousy if you are holding the phone widescreen, but at least it never gets blocked when you have the phone in your pants pocket!!!

Can't be any worse than that of the Arc.

Posted by doministry
Hmm..
I think build quality is very very good. I have no idea what Engadget means really.

The buttons - well, I basically hate capactive buttons so I will not defend them.
I'm happy there is no way to accidentally press them but maybe they should be more responsive.

As for the camera:
moaning about compression, but than they post iPhone's 4 photo which looks like sh..t both in sharpness and colour.
And Xperia shot which looks real, and they moan about one aspect. I really couldn't care less.

And now, I am happy to see their great batt life. I hope I will get it too. I suppose my current
usage pattern doesn't help it.

Samsung have confirmed ICS for 10 Mar (global) on SGS2, HTC have also confirmed ICS now for Sensation and Sensation XE (nordic).

Sony, pull your finger out or you will get left behind!

i had to reset my desire hd today getting really fed up with it now so glad im getting a new phone next week

For better and lesser noise, again, urn OFF stabilizer. Also, on the camera menu on the left panels you can press and hold to delete away the unwanted short cuts and change to your desired short cut. And the screen is really GORGEOUS!~ Its VERY difficult to see the pixels.

@borg_

Congratz on your new toy / gadget / best friend It looks huuuuge next your iPhone, which I guess is pretty average sized for a smartphone anyway. The screen sounds amazing, I'll be going into the Three store to size one up tomorrow.

I Doubt it SONY screwing it up again in hardware as-well as software now , All the other Manufactures are releasing ICS in few days. I Hoped SONY would be 1st on Software But ...

Been using it for a week now, what I found that the UI is the best in consistancy throughout every droids I have used. Love the new lockscreen notification, the new slide to message just works, with style!. I could say now that other than the battery life, it beats the 4S in every way. There is a slight problem with the screen. When you apply the protector on the screen, the transparent bar will be lower than the main screen, this would make it a bit akward if you touch the sides.

I found that the sound when connected to the headphones is quite lacking compared to the Walkman Z. Even with the equalizer brought to max, the high and mids are still cold. Nevertheless, I wasn't expecting that XS could beat the WZ anyway.

I am very happy with the smart dialer, however, the contact list bug is still there. When you sync with google, all photos will be shrunk. In phone contact photos does provide you with full resolution.

About the camera, the resolution and colour is top! Not on par with the M4/3, but good enough against small compacts. The main concern is the Quick capture function. It seems it won't focus properly. The front camera is ok, and produce fine results.

I am a bit concern with the batteries. In the past, I can charge while playing games, but now, I found that the battery drains faster then I can charge.

Lastly, about the touch sensitive buttons, I really hate them. They seems to activate when you least want them to! For example, when typing, I have many times activate the home button when pressing space. I never have this problem on my WZ. I think once ICS is availale (In April, they say), the buttons will become an extension of the soft buttons, and the issue would be solved.

Posted by doministry
That is why I hate ICS.
I wastes the screen space with those idiotic ugly buttons on the screen.
And the menu is on top. I am not waiting for this really.

It's strange that some reviews say X S has a great battery life.
In my case still - it's just a few days though - worse than Arc and I don't like it.

As for all of you beeing diasappointed with lack of ICS yet:
some of the dates are rumours, like Samsung. Come down.

What are you on about? The bottom buttons in ICS only appear if the phone has no buttons e.g. in the Galaxy Nexus, phones that have buttons likdm GS2, Sensation, One X, GNote, Xperia S etc...wont have those on-screen ICS ones.
Just look at ICS on the One X, Sensation XE and in leaked ICS ROMs for GS2 and GNote.

ps. Samsung already said ICS is rolling out in March for GS2, so either way, it will be available before Xperia S gets it, which is odd, Sony should've just launched it with ICS so that they can focus on 2011 line-up, and do minor bug fixes in Xperia S.

Allright than if the buttons are not on screen.

Anyway there are some things I don't get here:
1. There is no way I can perform video call

2. There is no USB Mass storage in settings.

The best area to work with buttons is the INSIDE space
between left/right buttons and the middle.

The battery problem is that after activity it keeps sucking energy on idle.
And that is strange because in activity it's quite OK.

But as Arc eats like 1% through many hours, S is faster.

Skype is a different thing. I talk about video calling in phone.

And USB mode has nothing to do with File Manager.

You confuse things.

For the battery it's running out pretty fast, maybe because is always WIFI connected, BT and installing apps

Watching a movie with the Xperia S is... it has a really great screen and for me better than the iPhone 4S
