Why is it comparing N8 video to Xperia S?? The Xperia S will no doubt be better as it has 1080p the N8 does not. Why did they not compare say 1080p video from iphone 4S or GS2?? I don't get that

Read the description under the video. It states that the test was done at 720p because the N8 does not support 1080p.
Both video were 720p.

Posted by Bonovox
Still silly why not do a 1080p test then??

Probably for same reason you compare a 12 MP phone camera with an 8 MP phone camera.

I would say the colors are more accurate in the XS but the stabilization seems better on ip4s. And XS really smacks the ip4s in dark environment

I must say the new widgets & menus look smart!! There I said something good

I take it those results are pretty good for a phone with a HD display yes?

The benchmarks force the phone to run at a certain resolution, the Galaxy Note managed higher scores despite having a 1280x800 display and being clocked lower at 1.4GHz.

Posted by rog
I also run the benchmarks again, using the latest firmware available (6.0.A.3.62), here are the results:

Quadrant:

Antutu:

http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/9800/screenshot201202232009.png

And my Xperia S also underwent a couple of charging cycles by now, plus it has been used under "production" conditions. I have to say that I am surprised, I was expecting the battery to last less, given the huge screen... After more than 13 hours using during a for me "regular" workday (20 minutes phone calls, a couple of SMS, checking mails set to every 15 mins, listening to about 45 mins of music, browsing for maybe 60 minutes), the battery is still somewhere around 66%. To be fair, 3G was turned off, this for sure makes a difference:

@rog - is the battery widget a stock Sony one as seen in the UI video on the last page?

Posted by rog
No, haven't seen that one before.

Posted by rickster2kuk
Cheers rog - hope your still enjoying the phone!

Love both the weather widget and the power control one - they rock!

Posted by rog
I am, even though it is too big for my taste. Will switch to a smaller one soon

Do you mean compared to something like the Arc or do you prefer smaller phones? That is the only thing that I worry about - how do you find it compared to the svelteness of the arc?

Posted by Felimenta97
@rog:

The Xperia S have that fast charging thing? And file transfer speed, how is it? Try transfering 2 Gb of files to it using a 1.0 USB port, if you can. And I saw that you made a battery test. Would you mind doing a stress test? Turn on BT, Wifi, set screen brightness to 65% (+ or -), listen to 2 hours to music (You don't need to listen, just let it playing), install some background apps, and browse about 2 hours (if the battery last this long).

Off course, you don't need if you don't have time, but if you have, please do.

Perhaps if your network has very poor 3G coverage. Where I live, I have not noticed any difference with any phone I have used to date (currently X10 mini).

@Tsepz_GP,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrudrUOnS_g

Lower resolution = better score, higher res = lower score, same specs. If it were true that the benchmark software would somehow force change the resolution( i am hearing this for the first time, if its true then my apologies), then all 3 should have gotten same score.

That video is from last year, thats the old Quadrant, Quadrant2.0 has been optimized to work at a certain res, AnTuTu as well, the Galaxy Note despite its huge 1280x800 res has managed to get higher scores than the GS2 despite being on the same chip on both AnTuTu and Quadrant2.0.
I'll try find more details on them when i get back from uni this afternoon, and post them here.

Rot,

Sorry if this was asked before but what is the settings for the notification LED? Can colors be set with Market available apps or natively? How is the quality on calls (handset/speakerphone)? Is the device aware when you are on speakerphone and pick it up will it auto detect bringing it near your face? (this is an Ericsson pioneered feature back with the R580m)

Posted by dibdin
Who's Rot lol.

@Tspez_Gp,

Good choice going for the white one, it looks so much nicer than the black IMO.

Now where are those guys who were whining that the camera is no better than the Arc and that the Galaxy S2 camera beats the Xperia S ?

Posted by NightBlade
Pshh, it's obviously rigged.

Hmmmm yes but is it really conclusive?? A review is a matter of opinion not fact

Haha yes a review is a matter of opinion not fact when its on the Xperia S, while if the review is of the Nokia N8 or Galaxy S2 it is more of a fact than opinion

And out of nowhere Recombu, the same site which declared Galaxy S2 as well as N8 as winners in camera shootouts last year and thrashed the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc and Arc S for mere above average camera performance is "on Sony's payroll" and the results rigged

yes the same person who gives us his OPINION on any pictures taken by the xperia s as being average, and no better than the xperia arc well I guess he is correct we cant take peoples opinions as facts and conclusive including his.

Ignoring all the whiners, I am pretty excited about the Xperia S ! Finally decided on getting the white one
And with ICS there will be new camera drivers with lower compression so its performance will improve further
Can't wait !!

Yes, I think the positives certainly outweigh the negatives with this device overall. Have ordered the white one too, and really looking forward to testing the Xperia S to the max in pretty much every department.

No doubt
And the white really looks much better than the black one IMO. The black one in live pics looks slightly dull mainly due to the bottom "bar" being dark grey(?) and the rest of the body black.

Hang on there your putting words into my mouth here. I never mentioned N8 or GS2. I said I did not think they were that much better than Arc. For goodness sake.

No I haven't. Still a little too early I'd say. This time next week very likely, hope so anyway.

Posted by doministry
I also hope all the whiners saying SGS II is so much better
will finally shut up and stop comparing this Sh..tsung here with XS.

@Bonovox so now we are all subjective, nice lol.

You don't like anyone with an opinion do you?? I have said all along I like the Xperia S I just don't see a huge improvement in camera department. Don't know how many times I have to say it

In Sweden week 10 seems to be the date most stores are expecting Xperia S to arrive.
