I think the box is fine. It's minimalistic, but perhaps bordering on simple. Big deal.

@ rog.

Can you post the about phone screen capture.

Thanks.

Hahaha... I mean, those contents of the box are from which market (UK, USA, Japan, etc).

Posted by rog
Generic market It is not from a specific market.

that video was an anti climax I was expecting to see a little more. Nice phone as in specs etc & quality but ugly especially that strip at the bottom. I wish we had the Ion here

The front of the ION looks like any other android phone. The XS is unique.

Maybe more so with the black version but i dont think it looks half as bad with white Xperia S.

Are you kidding?

Posted by rickster2kuk
Thanks Rog for your photos and unboxing, some forum members really do appreciate the work you put in to give us sneak previews!

I was me asking about the landscape photos

Scaled up there are nice, but on 100% crop there is still quite a bit of compression and I can't really see much improvement in image quality over the Arc. The file sizes are still pretty small at 2mb for a 12mb image.

On the plus side, focus is nice and colours are good, I just wish Sony would let us control the compression.

@Rog Sar level ?? Thanks

I think, its 9mp not 12mp

Posted by rog
Yep, was set to 16:9 which means 9MP

@sealover94: no idea... if I find out, will let u know.

Posted by NightBlade
Yeh, its's widescreen, so it should be 9MP.

Posted by rickster2kuk
There's nothing remotely wrong with the photos, just a little bit noisy when at 100%, but then I suppose you don't tend to view them fully cropped.

Any change of some landscapes at 12mb rog? Many thanks.

Rog i think SAR level is written on one of the manuals inside your box

hey rog,
can you please tell us about the fast charging thing from your experience?

I can't, for this a new charger is necessary, that is currently not available. Also note that Sony never mentioned that feature anywhere in connection with the Xperia s

Really! But that thing was so hyped up i almost believed it was for xperia s ..

Posted by Bonovox
My Arc S charges very fast anyway. How much faster is the Xperia S gonna charge??

Posted by dibdin
I really couldn't give a monkeys how quick the phone charges to be honest.

Posted by DACHA
After watching the unboxing video several times I noticed that the wall charger Sony Ericsson and half of the paperwork (manuals) have Sony Ericsson written over them.
I looks like the phone is labeled Sony while everything else is .

Is that how the phone will hit the market?

Posted by mrjulius
Please post more photos, especially at night .

Dooh
It's 1.30 W/kg

Posted by roanmy
That is quite high!

Posted by rmk152
@rog - I always unlock my Arc S with the bottom middle button, can you do this on Xperia S or would there be another way NOT to use power button??

Thanks @Rog so much.

And please don't care about those few whining people here,
They apparently have too much spare time in their hands.

Xperia S looks brillant, I think it's even better live than on photo,
it was true to almost any I had before.

Happy to see having it's own design language
opposed to all other super boring androids.

Thanks @Rog !!
I agree...1.30 is quite high.... Galaxys Nexus SAR is 0.30 !!! I start thinking that the transparent glass was not such a good idea after all....

Nope, that doesn't work, you have to use the power button my one year old son misses that too by the way, he gets mad because he can't unlock the phone anymore like he used to be able with the ray

Erm I already said I love the phone just not its looks. And as too much time on my hands I am not even on Esato as much as I used to be lately. I do have a life mate

Posted by rickster2kuk
I love the looks but I am a little nervous about it's size and weight - although Rog has allayed those fears to a certain extent.

Posted by doministry
But I also have to admit: I hate the non removable battery, and I hate
non physical buttons. This new trend is sh..t. Unlocking the phone with central button
is much more convinient.

Add to that that ICS removes all the apps menus from the button and
puts this on-screen under top right 3 dots shortcut what is idiotic and non logival
with TaskManager hard coded to menu button instead.
It makes future Android less usable and it pisses me off a bit.

Why designers always try to force improvement to something what is good!!!

Posted by Bonovox
Actually, same with my Arc S,why does Sony/SE not always do capacitive buttons?? I found it easier to use on the Ray than having to physically press the hard buttons. Makes things quicker. One or two of their phones have capacitive & the others physical. Non consistant Look forward to seeing the HD screen in real life though

Posted by rog
Again, someone asked for some low light shots, here are some:

Well, that's not the case here. Take a look at this topic - http://developer.android.com/design/patterns/actionbar.html , especially the category "Action overflow" at the bottom part of the page. There they talk about the context menu, marked with the three dots.

I still love everything about this phone apart from having to unlock the phone by pressing the power button is annoying to say the least. At least with the Arc you didn't have that problem.

Posted by Bonovox
Yes on the Arc S aswell would have been easier power button on the side. Easier to reach one handed

Posted by djin
I am actually used to the power button on my desire, so for me this shouldnt be an issue.. Although pressing the home key on the arc was more convenient for unlock.

@Rog,

Could you post a video on the UI, especially the music player? I have seen some of it and the music player looked really good!
