Ok, after a days usage here is some more info. There seem to be a really nasty battery bug. When I use the phone the battery drops 1%/min (so 1%/min when screen is on)... Also it dropped significantly during the night. This is ridiculous.

Give it a week for the battery issues to resolve, it was similar with the jb update for T and Go. Overall, expect lower battery life than the previous firmware.

Posted by Ranjith
Quite a lot of issues being reported. Lack of Data Connection,Wifi etc . A bit worried to upgrade now! :-\\

Strange. I don't have any such issue, in fact I am running mine at minimum 1 ghz both core - 1.5 ghz

I'm still waiting for OTA...

Even though I can upgrade by just flashing the ftf, I want to make sure I'll be root'ed, CWM'ed without unlocking the bootloader ( to keep BRAVIA )

DoomLoard is still working on CWM for locked BL... but for those who unlocked, they can enjoy both root and CWM...

but I might go for root only and wait for CWM later...

BTW, to those who updated OTA, will you loose root after that ?

ha. i never even used "Stamina mode" before. I always had it set to only activate if my battery was below 15%. I think the extended standby is essentially the same thing.. just isn't as customizable as stamina mode was.

Hi!

after upgrading to JB from ICS a lot of thing have gone bad: Chrome keeps crashing all the time, VLC won´t play on my TV and the text input is much slower than before. And the expected over all "system speed up" hasen´t shown itself yet.

Any of you guys experience the same problems?

Posted by alexander87
I did a clean flash with the generic world firmware.
I'm not having any of those problems, except the well known 1080p video recording.

Posted by moogoo
i did regular upgrade through sony bridge on mac and have had no problems. it's running smooth for me!

I have good experience with JB update, luckily didn't use camcording that much.

Newer update is coming in next few weeks 6.2.B.0.211

Honestly never expected them to turn back after the JB . Looks like they want to give it a proper update and finish it off there!

BREAKING NEWS: Xperia Z’s Stamina Mode Ported to 2012 Xperia Devices.

So for those with the Xperia S, SL, Ion and Acro S, the anticipation is finally over. XDA Senior Member Aeron sagar has ported Stamina Mode over to the aforementioned devices. Compatible with a deodexed Jelly Bean firmware and with either a locked or unlocked bootloader, users must download the provided zip file and move each file to their corresponding directories in order to install Stamina Mode

I have a feeling that the XS's that haven't received the JB update yet might get delayed to receive the Newer JB update

Posted by Bonovox
is Sony still here?? Are they still running but walking?? Playing catch up??

Posted by owlsfan_72
Gotta say I'm happy with the update. Smoother, the screen looks great, the camera software is better and no major issues of note I've encountered. Not keen on the Walkman app icon turning purple, rather than blue, but happy none the less.

I haven't received the Update yet here in India, weird coz i had received the ICS update soon after release!

Posted by S4k1s
Could someone try my Xperia. I can't seem to get it to work on my updated XS.

Posted by pbhat25
Ya, Ranjith
It seems strange as the Sony India webpage shows that it is available for Indian region but PC Companion fails to show the available update. I have been waiting eagerly for this update.

Posted by Oogamous
I Have been trying to update Xperia S to JB in Mumbai, India via PC Companion, Sony Update Service and Bridge to Mac since a week now, but it is still not available. I agree with Ranjith, that they may skip the first update and go directly to the bug-fixed recent update that was reported to be Certified.

Anyway here is the official response from Sony Mobile India:

"Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre.

We understand that you want to update your Sony Xperia S to Jelly Bean.

We value the importance of your concern and we are here to assist you.

In response to your query we would like to inform you that as the update is released in batches might be possible that the update is not available for your particular handset and it may take some more time to get it available for every customer. We will request you to wait for some time and try again. As soon as a new update will available you will get a notification regarding same in your handset. However we can not commit anything about the availability of same for the devices purchased from out of India.

@pbhat!
no probs but sorry, even i received the 6.2.B.0.200,my bad!its the buggy JB itself. FullHD vids does lag and there is a blue tint when taking photos with Flash.Dont have any issues with WiFi though.

Check this http://xperiaguide.com/2013/0[....]6-2-b-0-211-firmware-ftf-file/

says

Same 685 MB RAM as it was in 6.2.B.0.200 firmware.
Wi-Fi bug fixed, connecting very fast now
1080P HD video recording still lags.
NO HDR mode in camera settings.
GPS issue bug fixed
2G Data connectivity issue is still there.
Battery draining at same 2x speed more faster as compared to ICS.

Basically what users are now reporting that, SONY has not fixed any bugs except for that Wi-Fi issue and GPS. All bugs ares till present in this update. :/ We are checking the battery drain issue now and Wi-Fi also again. If to sum up Jelly Bean 6.2.B.0.211 firmware update only FIXED Wi-Fi bug, nothing more, every bug from Jelly Bean 6.2.B.0.200 firmware is still present, overall it’s again a disappointing update from Sony

strange.

i seem to have the same or slightly better battery life as compared to ICS. I haven't tried HD video recording yet, but I'll give that a try later.

I wasn't expecting HDR so *shrugs*

Haven't had any GPS issues and i use it often.
Don't have issues with 2G data or WiFi connectivity at all.

The only issue i have been having is the voice command sometimes craps out and won't work. Upon pressing the microphone button, it will immediately give and error and say it couldn't detect anything and to retry. This is true across all apps that use voice/sound input like keyboard and trackID. A restart of the phone fixes everything and the problem has only happened twice since updating.

Otherwise, I have been loving my JB update. Love the small apps!!

Posted by Ranjith
Battery Life Im yet to check..anyway ive put my 3G ON through out now unlike before to see if the Extended Standby Mode actually works..and i guess it is.FullHD vid is laggy,no doubt, interface is fresher but im still having my same old laggy speed when opening the Dailer .Data & WiFi seems to be working well too, small apps are nice but would like to enlarge the Calculator a bit . Overall interface speed seem to be slightly better too.Really expected the Stamina Mode though

Posted by burnin
just update my today to .200

1st impressions... mutch smoother interface and did not do the clean install, tomorow i will re install clean but so far so good!

Battery seems drain more but today i use it intensly

Only bug so far... opnig camera from lock screem fails sometimes!!!

Posted by Detox
I updated today as well . Yes, the Xperia S became snappier and more responsive after the update. Battery seems better as to me...

Posted by Ranjith
Yep,over all i feel its a good update. Nice touches to make it feel & look fresh, few nice features and some of the bugs have cleared off..esp the dialer is more responsive now! phew.
FullHD recording bug is there though...swipe to camera works for me, though a tad slow.
STAMINA Mode kinda works too..ive had my DATA connection always ON and battery responds better.Overall a slight improvement in battery life,i could say.

Anyone got the .211 JB update in India?

Posted by burnin
Just did a clean install of FW .200 (stock 4.1.2 JB) and my phonne its better than ever!

Very smooth, very quick in all tasks, just fall in love agin for the stock Sony luncher after 6 months using Nova Luncher (the most close to stock android i get)

No crashes what so ever, cam from lockscreen opens very fast, reboot the phone its about 100% faster than before!

Battery for now its very good, in normal use i am getting for now 36% after 1 day 9 hours what its for me very good, normaly i have this after 12 hours! And im using 50% brightness, when in the past i use 40% max!

Cant find any bug rather than 1080 video... thats very lag even with stabilization option turn off!!

I m very sorry that thid will not get futher than 4.1.2 JB because i will love to have lockscreen widgets for example!

Photos are still big noise in every conditions (only with very good sun light isnt noise)

Received 6.2.B.1.96
Change log according to Xperia Blog

" For camera, we’ve…

addressed an abnormality in the white balance
improved the “Quick Launch” button functionality
smoothed out (1080p) video recording, minimizing lag

For apps, services & data, we’ve…

streamlined Exchange Active Sync, particularly when running an encrypted set-up
boosted connection stability for 2G network data
ensured preferences on 3rd party apps remain after reboot – not a common problem, but we understand it can be a frustrating one!

For battery, we’ve…

economised power consumption, and heat dispersion for longer life
corrected juice level notifications, especially when running low

And for hardware & UI, we’ve…

introduced a home key long-press to launch Google Now, and a double-press to launch Recent Apps
made sure the volume “up” button is fully responsive"

I too got the new firmware update today morning...

My wife's phone used to have a pathetic battery life when 2G is turned on... Will have to check the same post-update. One thing I observed that the 2G data connection is immediately established on turning on the Mobile Data. Earlier it used to take a lot of time.

Posted by burnin
I updated my 2 days ago...

...for now everthing seems fine except battery life! Lost 4% from 100% in 2 hours but i need to take more time to see if this its normal!

Everthing else seems very fine, its faster than ever, no lag, no home redrawing, very smooth transitions from app do app, camera its the same thing.. not very good with lot of compression as allways was!

For me this is a great phonne now with a very stabe 4.1.2 JB i think it will be last update from Sony! Mybe in 2 years from now i'll try to put some custom ROM with 4.2 ou 4.3 JB but from now its a great phonne!

my Home screen re drawing issue has reduced but still there :-\\

I my caso i only see that happening after play real Race 3... other than that never happens!

Posted by Ranjith
I get it almost every time i click the home button from Whatsap :-\\

Goodbye Xperia S, goodbye Sony... its was very good time with Xperia S but now after reading lots of problems with Z1 and after returning a faulty sod Xperia Z early this year i dicieded to go for a Note 3!

Posted by yytty

Going to switch Xperia S for a Xperia UL. Summing up my feelings about a year of using S, it was good. The screen, best part of this phone and it’s a joy to watch film and streaming videos on it. The stock battery life is disappointed so I normally carry a MPJ replacement battery. I had to charge up every night even with average usage. The aftermarket one would do a little better. Sony camera is very impressive---quick and easy to take a snap and photo the quality is better than my all previous phones. All in all, I’ve spent quite happy time with it:P

My dialer and contacts are becoming slower and slower :-\\ ,Its painful to even attempt to make a call
