Going by your link The PS3 only NOW, in 2013 has caught up, the Xbox360 had years of sitting in the lead so no,I am not entirely wrong. How big is the Japanese gaming market though? And no, it's not completely obvious, the Japanese maybe loyal to their brands, but Americans do tend to stray, just look at the car industry, Toyota has a huge chunk of the market, sitting at 2nd or 3rd last I checked, and 1st for SUVs and Pick Ups.

I didn't contradict myself at all, I'm saying going with WP would theoretically make sense for Sony in terms of software and Updates, it would take care of this area for them BUT unfortunately going with WP doesn't tie in with the rest of their strategy. From what I'm seeing, Sony want to make a complete Eco system with everything from their smartphones, tablets, TVs, laptops, media players, consoles, all being connected to each other, WP does not tie in well with that. So although WP would help them sort out one area, overall it wouldn't help them achieve their overall goal. I can't simplify it anymore than that, unfortunately.

I never said samsung will ditch android as soon as they launch Tizen phones, they will in 2 year from now.
Launching a Highend tizen phone in Q4 says lot than just launch a low end tizen phone.Their prototype looked like a iphone

[LT26i][4.1.2]{LEAK} Sony JellyBean Firmware: 6.2.B.0.197 (WORKING)

Hello friends,

so finally we have a version which works almost perfect!

i present to you leaked Sony JellyBean Firmware 6.2.B.0.197 for the Xperia S (LT26i)...

this firmware was ment for developer (brown) devices but i was able to get it to boot on production devices...

[ NOTICE ]

since this is an internal testing firmware, do not expect to see the same features on the official final release... some things could be added while others removed...

[ how to install ]

download the ROM and save it on SDCARD
reboot device into recovery (make sure that the /system partition is unmounted, i have noticed that in some kernels the /system partition remains mounted)
flash the ROMs update.zip (this will take some time)
thats it now reboot device
at first boot device will reboot once after bootanimation thats expected
next boot will take a long time!!!
it might happen that in after some reboots u get a "flashing firmware screen" thats ok.. let it complete... DO NOT DISTURB WHILE THAT PROCESS IS GOING ON!!!
after a few reboots the ROM should stabilize!
enjoy!

Finally some good news. I have just received a message saying that Lund have built the 4.1.2 update for Xperia S in double quick time (working weekends right now apparently) and it has just gone into final internal testing which is a 2-3 week process after which they will roll out the firmware to the public. My source says that the update has absolutely zero bugs so far and that they are impressed with how quickly it runs and performance is top notch for a 2011 chipset.

Good guys Lundaborna .

That is 100% correct.

I installed the leaked JB firmware and it is PERFECT. No bugs and the speed and smoothness is astonishing On par with quad core phones of last year in real world usage

AMAZING update !!!

Hallelujah!!!!! It's a miracle the lord has blessed the Sony Xperia S with precious new life!!!! Well, taking their time over it at least they got it right and didn't rush it with bugs. They might be slow but at least they do eventually get it out.

Hi!

Does anyone know if there is a replacement battery with higher capacity than the original one that fits the Xperia S?

I bought a non original battery from eBay that says 2680mah on it, but it´s no better than the 1700mah that came with the phone;)

Maybe there is one of Sony´s newer models that have the same size battery that I can use?

Thanks in advance!
/Robert

Already using the first JB leak

Posted by Xajel
I heard they pulled the firmware shortly as they discovered something missing or wrong... and now they need some time to finish it and resubmit it again for certifications... thankfully the long time certifications ( those related to radio and modem parts ) will not be changed so there will be no delay to the original timeframe ( starting from late may to june )... it's still in the first half of the year...

They want to make sure everything is okay before releasing the update as they don't plan any other updates as they still have some time before reaching 18 months of it's life...

Posted by Felimenta97
Do you know what was wrong?

Posted by Xajel
^^^

Nothing for sure, but minor tweaks as the leaked firmwares were all just real world testing.. gathering responses then fix'em up... they want to tweak it as far as they can while sticking to the timeframe... they prefer being a little late with a lot of tweaks and optimization and problem free rather than releasing it very early and having some problems... they don't want to release anything after this update.. so they have to make it as perfect as they can... that's why there's many leaks before and all users who used those firmwares were amazed by it... every new firmware they tweak it more and fix any minor bugs/lags and release it again for real world testing... the last firmware was supposed to be the final one and that's why they updated their pages.. but they discovered something from the testers so they pulled it up again.. but one guy was skeptic and he said that the last .200 firmware was the one they will release but the pulled it in order to release it later so there will be no time to have another update... or at least because they want the update servers to be free when they release it as they have too many Xperia S users...

we will see if the pull was for more tweaks or for the reasons given by that guy when we have the real update... if it was .200 then the guy is correct... if more than .200 then they did more tweaks...

Posted by Ranjith
^^ at this pace they wouldn't need free servers considering all will trade the SC by then. Was about to sell mine of last week only to hang abt to see how the JB will be like.

Posted by Felimenta97
I see... If you don't mind (and I hope you don't), I will post this on XDA so they calm down their nerves and avoid bans to users, and closed threads, for the 1000th time).

With proper credits, of course.

If you want, I can remove. Just PM me or anything.

just plugged in and checked my sony bridge and i've got the JB update here in the USA

UPDATE:

had a chance to play with it a bit. so far it feels smooth and fluid. adding widgets is quick and intuitive. notification bar is better organized and battery automatically has a numerical % next to the icon (which i like). Google Now is awesome..

there's a new audio feature.. clear something? that's supposed to automatically enhance or fiddle with the speakers.. not sure what it really does.

extended standby is available.

extra home screens is available.

app drawer is slightly modified but pretty much the same. though i love that uninstalling apps from the app drawer is now done in the background and the icon just disappears.

camera interface has changed some too. haven't used walkman yet..

The only problem is the 1080p video recording.
All the rest are simply excellent!

Overall performance is fine, especially how slick Walkman sound options implemented.
Except Google Now can't normally work when swype up home button.
Haven't a chance to try camera and video recording.

When battery goes under 15% you get a msg telling you to activate stamina mode but XS don't have stamina mode. Another way Sony crippled this phone... and it's s#it like this that makes me not wanting to buy a Sony next year when it's time to upgrade.

The lack of support for this flagship is so bad it gives me puke taste in the mouth every time I think of it.

Nowadays the only people I recommend a Sony smart phone to is people I really don´t like.

Wait, wait, so the only thing your S is missing after the JB, compared to Z, is the Stamina mode, and you're crying like little babies?! C'mon, just look at how Sony ruined the 2011 Xperias ( including the Arc S ) after their shitty half-baked ICS update and how such great phones became completely unusable, buggy, laggy... And not only they didn't get the new 2012 UI unlike how S got the 2013 UI, but they got their own great and polished 2011 UI ruined, missed the Walkman, Album, Movies apps, the new widgets and apps and so on... Instead of crying, just look at all the people ( including me ) who got in much worse situation because of Sony's shitty politics! It's Sony, what can you expect! How can I not hate them after they f*cked me in the ass so bad?!

I think that only shows how Sony is improving, not going backwards. If our JB was even worse feature wise, then it would be an downgrade to SMC. Yes, you got screwed up, but we are far better. Maybe Z can get the same things as the 2014 flagship next year with the Android update?

Wow, such an improvement, 's Arc was running flawlessly GB with 's custom skin less than 2 months after GB's announcement, while Sony finally managed to release its 4.1 update 12 months after 4.1's official announcement... I can see Sony getting better and better...

Posted by S4k1s
@mediar, no its not the only thing missing. I had to go through 3 handsets because a faulty yellow screen. I got a ICS "upgrade" that literally f#cked up my phone. Who cares about how the UI looks when your dual core 1,5GHz phone can't even play mp3s without stuttering or hold on to a wifi or 3g network or close a call the right way or stutter in the UI like it's running @ 2 frames per second or take ages to reload the home screen totally random?? Then I had to wait for JB for almost a year, more then 8 months longer than say HTC One X which I dissed for the XS... For me the XS has been the far worst handset experience ever.

The Arc was a pearl when released but it also got a really bad SW treatment and things like these make me not trusting SONY anymore in this department. I am really curious to see how the XZ is treated 12-15 months from now.

It took time because there was an internal problem. But take in account that:

Arc: GB -> ICS
Good -> Bad
S: ICS -> JB
Bad -> Good

See?

To @S4k1s: Really? The ICS wasn't that good, I agree, but did you tried tweaking it a bit? Or changing some stuff? Or even the JB? It runs almost without problems. One problem here and there, yes, no person/company is perfect, we all know that (if you don't, are you sure you live on Planet Earth?)

I had no problems whatsoever with WiFi, calls, or 3G data.

I waited a lot for JB. While I couldn't get, I researched, I managed to make that lag way smaller. If you have a brain, you also could do that. But worthed every single minute waiting for it.

The Yellow Screen wasn't Sony's fault. It was a production one, that happened on the industry. That happens with every company. Remember the first iPhone 4S with the reception problem? It was fixed as fast as they could. That probably wouldn't have happened if they there were Japanese producing it. But it was produced in China, likely, and they aren't that trained to see such problems.

So, yes, Sony isn't doing the very best right now. But they are trying. They are working to fix it.

And, mediar, if you hate so much Sony and what they are doing now, and Samsung/HTC is doing WAY better, why you keep her? Really, what makes someone want to troll a place like that?

Why you don't sell your Neo already and get the f**k off ASAP. You've got nothing to add here, and seems Sony doesn't do things the way YOU like. You are one in a world of 7 billion people. That won't make they change EVERYTHING to please you and you only.

Posted by S4k1s
@Felimenta97, if you are born 97, I didn't just have a brain before you were born I was on my third cellphone before you were born and I was a SONY fan for more than 2 decades before you were born...

Even if the JB update is better than the ICS one it's still about 11 months to late. It's not acceptable. After the ICS update the XS had ONE update and that was to fix the battery issue, no other bug fixes!

Also who are you to tell people to sell their phone and get the hell out of here? Some people save for a year to buy that precious phone or thing that they want and it should work as expected. This is not Korea, we are allowed to discuss negative things about our phones here, not only the positive.

Not everyone want to install a custom rom, it has nothing to do with brains. The phone should work adequate without the need of a custom rom, at least the first 12 months of its lifetime!

I payed 550€ for this good looking brick and I expect to get 550€ worth of experience from SONY, not excuses that no one is perfect...

And about the yellow screen not being SYNY's fault, LOL? have you heard the term quality control? It's SONY's responsibility to see to it that a product meets the defined set of quality criteria and the specified requirements as advertised.

I was born in 97, so what? LOL

ONE update after ICS? There was .452, .453, .45, .50 and .55. I installed all of them and all I got was perfomance and battery improvements. I didn't any major bug with it. About telling others to buy other phones. Ok, he may not need to buy another phone right now, but I think he doesn't NEED to be there, if all he show is hate to Sony, neither he does have to be here if he have a Sony (Ericsson) phone.

And I never meant to install a custom ROM. If you have money to buy one of these phones, you probably have money to access internet. If you can do that, you can Google for possible fixes for their faults. That's how I learnt everything I know.

You paid such a lot... Well, I paid a bit less, but still. Well, I am happy with my purchase. If you (or anyone else) isn't happy, then I have nothing to do with it.

Only you ready SYNY. There is quality control, yes. But, think: control such a huge mass of phones (or whatever your company is producing) isn't that easy. Maybe the pre production models didn't had that, so they didn't bothered.

EDIT: If I offended, which, sadly, I'm sure I did, it wasn't my intention. But this is my vision. That they are working to get better, and also, know that, if you aren't happy with something, leave as soon as you get your chance. Don't stand still.

Ok, after a days usage here is some more info. There seem to be a really nasty battery bug. When I use the phone the battery drops 1%/min (so 1%/min when screen is on)... Also it dropped significantly during the night. This is ridiculous.
