So you mean the homescreen redraws all the icons...
Can you see how much free RAM you have?

Every now and then when i click the HOME soft key from Facebook or WALKMAN or Messages. The Home screen goes empty and then immediately all the widgets show up one by one.even the Media folder icon takes time to show up the icons in the folder.Mind you its NOT ALL THAT SLOW,all happens quickly but its kinda irritating and not smooooth :-. Happened to me around 10 times today but seems fine right now.
Couple of simple things i miss are the Slide to Silent in the lock screen and the Shortcut for Screenshot from Power Button Options(though ICS has Volume Down Key+Power Buttons to capture a screen shot)
Free RAM seems to be one the lower side i guess.

Still worse, on GB 350MB free...
I read so many different & confusing reports, I think I will skip this upgrade.
BTW, don't use Advanced Task Killer, but rather built in app killer...

I believe there is an option under Settings|Apps where you can disable apps you don't want to load into memory.

Also, a factory reset usually cures issues with the kind of issues you have.

I could fix my signature, if you know what i mean . Or in other words: I could update my Xperia S two days ago, just when 4.1 was announced . Really like the update so far. Nice, selective improvement of performance and many other things. Good job, Sony.

Hi Detox,

which country do you live in?

Just wondering if anyone in the UK has the update yet. Off to check out XDA now!

Overall im happy with the Update now. Even though available RAM is Lower,it doesn't slow it down or crash. It does not lag at all anywhere.

Zurich, Switzerland .

The update was announced on the 21st and since then my SI-number was in the list. On the 26th, I received for the first time the information, that there is an update. However, everytime I tried to update, an error message occurred. The servers had to be strained excessively. Like I said above, it was not possible for me to update until the 27th, but then without any problems and buttery smooth . That is all from my Android update history, thank you for reading .

thanks Detox!

Glad it all went smooth! Still waiting here! East Yorkshire, UK, in the rain, being patient,

Nope.I believe it was due to the "Dont Keep Activities" option being checked under Developer Options :-\\.Like i mentioned earlier, inspite of the Low Available RAM,its all nice and smooth,no issues.BUT one nagging issue is when i click the "Phone" option to open the dailer,it takes a moment to open up gotta figure out why!

Updated to ICS. Did a fresh clean install.

Here are some observations:

1) Some nice new Live wallpapers seem to have been added

2) The new album app is simply outstanding

3) The Walkman app doesn't feel any different

4) The Swipe to remove individual notifications is really neat

5) Overall the phone feels as responsive as before. Neither faster nor slower

6) Been playing with ICS for past 3 days - Free ram hovers around the 160 -180 mark, but I do not have the screen refresh problem. The apps and widgets do not take time to appear - they are already there. Only in the photo widget sometimes It takes a few seconds for the photos to appear.

7) However I have this new status bar icon which i have no clue what it is. I cannot seem to remove it as It doesn't appear in the swipe down notification. It just remains there all the time. Any Idea what it is?

Thanks.

Bloody Sony!
They stuffed around with the auto brightness again.
I work right under a light and any slight tilt makes the screen light up and dim non stop.
Is there a setting somewhere on ics which disables auto brightness?

Hey guys, does anybody else receive the message, that com.android.phone has stopped functioning since updating to ICS? It always pops up, when I disable flight mode. It also seems like Sim-Toolkit can't run on ICS. I didn't notice any restrictions so far because of them though...

I've had nothing like this either, and I have used flight mode once or twice. SIM Toolkit still runs fine for me on ICS.

Thanks Muhammad-Oli. It's not that annoying, but of course I would prefer a Xperia S without any "flaws". What do you recommend? Shall I do a factory data reset, install 6.1.A.0.452 again, wait for a new firmware or hope for better days ?

Edit: Everything is fine, when I restart the phone. It only happens with the next attempt(s)...

Not sure what you could do. I guess a reset or reinstall won't hurt, other than that you'll have to spend a while setting up the phone again.

I now have a couple of issues that have only begun since ICS:

Now Sony Bridge For Mac doesn't recognise my phone. It knows it's there because the program opens when I plug the phone in, but the program won't properly initialise and allow me to transfer files.

I deleted all my music off my phone and that fixed it. Trouble is, I use Bridge to put music ON my phone, so as soon as I have done that once, Bridge then doesn't work any more. ARRRGH! Why is Sony so bad with desktop software?! I don't know why they don't just allow drag and drop.

The second issue I have is that when I get an SMS message from someone, I tap on the notification to go to the message, and it opens the messaging app to a completely blank screen. I then have to hit 'back' to view my list of contacts in the app, then go into the message again to view it. Frustrating to say the least!

After all, I have to say, that this is not always the case.

I did a factory data reset and also installed 6.1.A.0.452 again, but no improvement . We'll see... Thanks anyway. You have enough problems of your own.

Isn't there any other software from Sony for Macs?

My phone only gives me the option of MTP, if you can call it an option when there's only one choice... I would love it I could use Mass Storage!

I did a fresh install of ICS on mine the other day which temporarily solved the messaging bug I had, but today it happened again. I'm pretty annoyed. I hope Sony gets all these issues sorted out!

I'm starting to get a bit befuddled. I'm in East Yorkshire and on 02 and thought I had the official UK firmware. I updated mine using the swiss firmware, that was knocking around on XDA, last week. Then the following day I plugged the phone in and the official update happened, I used SEUS, and I've got an official ICS update that's working perfectly. I presumed it was the UK version, but obviously not as people are now saying the SI update for 3114 hasn't happened yet. How can I find out what version I've got?

Posted by ofiaich
Another East Yorkshire person

I guess in -settings -> about phone, Build Number

and also *#*#7378423#*#* but I do not know these menu's well!

I can see service information, service settings, service tests and customization settings.
My service info -> software info shows

Phone Software Version 1252-0023-6.0.a.3.7.5

But I know very little about upgrading etc and tend to wait for Sony's/O2's update as reported here and at XDA to use Sony PC Companion!

If you root the phone, there is an app on XDA that allows you to acess Mass Storage Mode.

Hey guys not been on in a while,

I got desperate and found a shitty french .ftf with loads of bloatware. Can someone give me the link to a better generic one with less (none if possible) bloatware.

As for ICS I have this to say overall I like but there a few things that I don't:

-The new font found in some areas, which is bold and I don't like it, I don't think it matches the aero thin font that was used throughout on the NXT line with gingerbread.

-I would also make it an option to change the colour of the main blue colour (which is found throughout the phone on the volume icon control and the tabs at the top of apps. These should change colour when the theme is changed. It would just make it look a lot nicer.

-I don't like the new idea that everything accessible is at the top of the phone, its one of the things I never liked with the iPhone that you always had to stretch your thumb to the top left corner to go back. Now it seems ICS is doing this too. It was quite nice in gingerbread having everything at the bottom in thumbs reach, but especially with phones' screens getting bigger this is a crazy adoption in my opinion.

-Linking on with that, is the menu bar that comes down when you tap anywhere on the homescreen. I can get used to this, however I have already noticed I am swiping through and the phone sometimes thinks I am tapping so this options bar comes down. It just looks unfinished and maybe they should make it so you have to long press to get it to come.

-It's very slow to auto rotate, in gingerbread this was a lot faster. Although this could be because it didn't have the fancy animation it is still far to long to have to wait, can be a good 3 seconds sometimes

-I also don't like the WALKMAN app icon and text. Seeing as everything else has been square shaped it seems strange song made the icon a glossy bubble, it just doesn't match the other apps, and also the WALKMAN text being written in all capitals 'Walkman' would look better... -okay so admittedly this one isn't that important, but it still annoys me
