Sony Xperia S thread

There was a live session today, and some one asked about getting acro s and x s, the answer they gave did not indicate that xperia s will be stopped any time soon.

Posted by dibdin
Wasn't it a similar scenario with the Arc last year, after 3 months or so after it's release it was replaced by the Arc S.

I am generally pleased with the Xperia S, so not too bothered that it's going to be replaced by the Acro S as spec wise there is hardly any difference between the two.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Is the Xperia S going down the same root as the legendary W900??? I remember that was in production for just 6months then SE discontinued it.
As long as they support it with SW updates its fine, it will make the XS rare.

Posted by djin
off topic but, I am not sure if x s will ever be as legendary as w900i ! That phone was like no other for years to come. I still have it boxed and kept safely, its basically the phone which made me fall in love with . It had an amazing camera , video recording with 30 fps, graphics card, one of the best speaker with actual bass, large screen.. Sigh

If it's true (rumours about S production stopping), it wouold be the biggest Sony fail ever. XS is coming to Brazil just in mid June (yeah, Brazil is ALWAYS late)

Posted by Ranjith
That is certainly weird.Would love to see the Arco S priced as the XS now and the XS priced lesser.2 different markets here,i would have definitely gone for Arco- Waterproof is something i really need riding in Rains! :-\\

Nonsense. Acro S is a rugged device. And X S is not.

Mate, I own the XS too and I know its rubbish that XS is being discontinued but unfortunately its true. Unknown13x said it himself that XS is going out of production soon. And the Acro S is its replacement

And I repeat, it's a complete nonsense.

My beautiful black W900 went to VodaCare due to WSOD, and they replaced it with a dam W880, swapped that for a Nokia N80. Miss my W900, that was what sparked my interest in CPU/GPUs and even phone OSs, before that i was just an average phone user, all i wanted was a phone and an mp3 player in one i would probably have an iPhone now if it wasn't for the W900 and my curiosity of what made it special.
Sorry for going OT!

Anyway it makes sense to me if they stop XS production, the Acro S seems much better, and actually has a chance against HTC and Samsung's offerings.

On the other hand I just noticed the price has dropped like a stone (currently around 345 EUR) here in Sweden and is much cheaper than e.g. Xperia P.

Phones lose value fast. I seen the XS on contract free for £20/month

Posted by Bonovox
www.phonearena.com has done a photo shootout with Xperia S against GS3 and a few others

Excuse me but what is this?
There is no advantage of Acro S over X S besides it's rugged chassis.

Is it just me or the XS is VERY musical. I enjoy listening to music on my XS lately more than on my Sony Walkman player

Not available in my country yet. Yes it supposedly solves the issue with the capacitive buttons and also battery life is tiny bit better.

Not out for generic uk yet, mind you were still stuck on the .67 firmware, .73 and now .75 haven't come to uk generic users, looks like sony have forgotten about us in the uk

Posted by mediar
Well, unlike Ericsson, Sony is too far from the UK to think about you as well.

Screw updating. I have been trying for couple of hours to get PC companion to see my phone. and every single time it's error this error that. It simply won't find the god damn phone!

I guess you're using Win 7, right? This thing is hit and miss. Sometimes I waste hours trying to make it work, others I plug and it work right away.

Posted by doministry
That's strange, my PC always sees my phone....
Win 7 64 bit here.

Posted by Lightspeed_x
Mine also a Win7 64 bit box and, after installing adb drivers, I haven't had a single issue when connecting my phone to the pc.

Same problem here. I'm on both W7 x64 and Vista x64, never got PC Companion to work with my phone since I bought my Arc S.

Posted by padan
it's windows vista guys 32 bit

the bloody drivers on the phone are either corrupt or missing. windows simply cannot see this phone on my computer.

Posted by Lightspeed_x
Have you tried installing Gordon's gate drivers?

Posted by padan
no sorry dude. havent installed that. dont know what it is. if it works i will bloody try it! where can i find it?

thanks i will give it a go

right there seems to be two issues here which is causing these problems.

one is that something is forcing the phones to reload the drivers again when the drivers have been successfully reinstalled once you insert it into usb slot on computer creating an endliess loop of failed installations.

secondly the pc companions that comes preinstalled from the phone and the one on the net are causing a huge software conflict of some sorts.

it's takes me 20-30 minutes just to get the phone to be recognised and then when i take out the phone it once again tries to reinstall and boom it becomes unrecognissable yet again.

This sad situation means i have to reinstall the drivers everytime i plug in my phone just to access the storage medium. sigh

Yes you heard me right. reinstall everytime you plug in your phone into your computer. It's really hard being a sony fan sometimes.

sony what the **** are your software engineers doing? how come my x10 works so flawlessly even with the bug ridden pc companion and yet the flagship phone is not?

update on the situation.

i have come up with a temp solution. exhanged my phone. stayed with the old firmware preinstalled on the phone. everytime i connect the phone to compu, i make sure the phone tries to install pc companion even though it's already on my comp.

the phone then loads up the drivers and it connects perfectly. i know it is sad to have to reload the driver every single time but hey it's better than nothing.

now at least i can enjoy the phone in all t's glory.

at last. God damn you sony. get better software engineers

Not a Sony problem.
Your laptop locks it. Better sort the cr..p on your PC.

I have two laptops, one 4 year old one on Vista 32bit, second new Win7 64 Bit.
Both work with my X S perfectly as well as with two other devices - Arc and X10 mini.
In two ways - with PC Companion and as external drive on the PC.

So mate, it's your PC not mistake.
Stop complaining and sort the sh..t on your computer.
