Just received my new Xperia S from Sony to replace my old one with the yellow tint/yellow spot fiasco.

And better now??

I also have it but don't have time to replace it.
I mean rebuilding everything from scratch...
And the phone works really well on .73.

@Tsepz_Gp

I too feel that the problem is with sony's home launcher!

--

Its actually shocking that even one x has this occasional lag, and my old desire is smoother(atleast on home screens)[no mods or roots or factory resets since over a year!] I really hope sony and htc get back.

One quirk I have noticed with the XS is that the NFC tags do not work all the time.. Kind of a hit or miss. Sometimes the smart tags are just not picked up. sometimes they are picked up instantly...

I hope it is software related..

It's certainly alot better than the previous 3 I had but not perfect. There is only the very slightest yellow tint at bottom of the display, and no yellow spot as of yet after a good 2 hours constant on the net and having watched a few videos one after the other on YouTube. Will be keeping a close eye on the display.

@dibdin,

how was the build quality so far on all the xperia ss you have had(disregarding the screen issue)? Were they consistent?

I've got a few issues about my Xperia S, firstly the battery cover is slightly loose so ever so slightly can me moved up and down not that big of an issue but does make it feel less premium. When plugging headphones in it seems to require a quite firm push. Also on the camera it seems to constantly go crazily out of focus and you have to manually reset it to normal but I can see this being a problem in video mode. Anyone else got these issues?
[ This Message was edited by: adsada on 2012-04-13 23:07 ]

regarding the cover, I thought my cover was slightly loose too, I could move it up and down slightly aswell
But, it's because I didnt put it on properly, take it off and put it back perfectly. might take 2/3 tries
the cover will not move at all then.-

the headphone 3.5 Jack port is firm on mine
but there is nothing wrong with that, I dont think this is an issue
if anyone can confirm, by all means post

I have no idea about the camera :-S
my focus in photos and videos are great no complaints.

I think music playing seamlessly is the most basic requirement for any phone/music player. Playback had always been flawless in their feature phones, 3-4 years down the line music stutters and sometimes the player shut down altogether isn't exactly progress to me, especially for my flagship Arc S let alone Xperia S with dual core 1.5ghz processor leaving no more excuse for this to continue being a problem. This is exactly why people go for iPhone

I've just tested my X S and had the Navigation running with GPS on, Wifi on, had the browser open and the music player working and all are fine. You obviously have something wrong with your phone. I've never experienced any lag.

PS iPhones have problems too.

You know the problem with your car that can't be reproduced when you're at the mechanic? This is the same but one thing I do know is that it WILL happen sooner or later. Not sure if it's an android thing or a sony thing but it's just a matter of time before it happens

Guys, I think the "yellow dot" issue is bigger then Sony wants to admit, it might be as bad as every SXS have it.

My new (second) SXS that I got few days ago has it... I wont send it back yet since I just installed everything on it again but if it get worse I am def going back with it :S

Mine has one dot over the right button and one under the top right corner, it also have a yellow wave under the top left corner...

I am really disappointed by this, sure you don't notice it right away and sometimes not at all if you have the "right" background or an icon where the dot is, but at other times it's really annoying.

The thing is I love the SW in the SXS, mainly the music player with all its fun and usable details and I love the design of the phone so this is really hard now, I don't know what to do.

Yep looks like many have it.

Seems HTC One X suffers from this too (not sure if there is any common factor).

Ahhh the reloading of the homescreen really annoys me it was there on the arc, and unfortunately is also on the XS

If the phone were to freeze, how would you reset it since you can't pull the battery out? I'm looking to get this or a Xperia P.

Posted by Lollylost100
There's a key combination for reboot.

Posted by Oogamous
^ Good question. Wondering the same thing. Had a minor freeze using skype. phone became unresponsive. But thankfully pressing the power button for a long time got the phone to restart.

Power+volume key longpress reboot phone

Posted by Lollylost100
Volume Up + POWER (for 10 seconds) -> resets the battery, its like removing the battery and putting it back in [device will vibrate once]

Volume Up + POWER (for additional 5 seconds, total 15 seconds) -> will power off hard, device will power down [device will vibrate thrice]

Posted by badassmam
Thanks, no need to worry then. Why all the initial fuss about a non-removable battery then? I'm loving the Xperia S but the finish on the Xperia P is too nice, the screen is amazing as well. The first time in a long while that I've wanted a /Sony device.

Indeed. I'm getting the xperia P as well. Metal unibody is just to awesome

Isn't the yellow dot issue solved with handsets later as week9. I heard it was because of the glue the used.

NO it is not solved. My phone is from week 12 and has the yellow tint issue. Some people with week 14 phones have reported no yellow tint but others had it even on week 14 phones.

Wohooo, I finally got my hands on my Xperia S last night! I'm thoroughly satisfied, to be honest.

Just two small issues. I seem to have that yellow spot issue at the bottom of the display but it's very faint and barely noticeable.

Secondly, the phone seems to heat up near the top after several minutes of use. I don't know whether this is normal...

Posted by adsada
Good to hear nightblade, was it black like you were hoping? And what else did you get in the box (better not of got any accessories or i'll be jealous )

Posted by NightBlade
Yeah, it turned out to be a black one! (Thank G!)

I just got standard earphones and charger/usb

Out of interest did you get a European adaptor?

As for the yellow tint issue, when I turned brightness on full on a while picture I maybe see a bit of yellowing but I don't know if I'm seeing things, apparently it gets worse when the device heats up, so maybe do some tests and see if it gets worse. I would have hoped Sony would have given us some kind of documentation for the warranty etc. But can't complain, I looooooove this phone

Posted by Bonovox
Sony have apparently said this is a small number of units. But to me seems more widespread

Posted by tranced
I was thinking the same! Heck!

Posted by Bonovox
HTC always say the same when there is an issue with their phones. But then you hear everyone moaning about the same thing.

Yes mate your eyes are OK.
It gets worse when the device or rather the screen is hot, and disappears when it's cool.
It got a little worse in time in my case. I have the device for some time now.
One of the first here.

Apparently I broke my headset which came with X S and just bought really nice in ear Sennheisers and man,
the audio quality is amazing. I mean those headphones are stunning but also the quality of the sound is great.
Sennheiser CX 215, I recommend them, top notch.

Besides the screen the phone is brilliant. Almost no weak spots.
I got only one freeze, with YouTube. It's a known case though, I'm not sure it's a device or the app itself.

Er, does anyone have any idea when the XS will be getting the ICS update? I'm a bit surprised the 2011 Xperias got it before the 2012 ones.

Posted by rickster2kuk
There has been nothing concrete from Sony, only Q2 2012.

Rumours are it will hit around Mid may - early June.

Don't hold your breath, it seems it's the last in the queue for ICS unfortunately.

Better late than buggy

Posted by NightBlade
I suppose...

Posted by NightBlade
Guys, I'm still a bit concerned about the phone warming up after several minutes of, say, playing games or browsing the gallery for a while. I've never had a phone do this before. Is this normal?

Posted by tranced
Does this happen when your internet connection is on?

Posted by NightBlade
Nope. Not necessarily.

It's manly the area towards the top that gets warm.
This is the only concern that I have left. Even the yellow spot's disappeared.

I don't want the phone blowing up in my trousers, you know.
[ This Message was edited by: NightBlade on 2012-04-27 01:19 ]

Posted by NightBlade
Although, it does take about 20 mins of playing for it to get warm. Then it takes a minute for it to cool off.

I might be being paranoid.

Posted by annafee
are you sure that the yellow spot are absolutely gone? I mean 100%. Coz i'd want a 100% perfect screen and no fault with my device. That's why i postponed buying this cellphone. I thought that i'd get it once the problem was sorted. .
Or i mite as well wait for the Hyabus...who knows. .

Posted by Oogamous
The Xperia S is a great phone. No yellow spot noted on my device.

However I have found a bug: The Call Log of the phone suddenly has stopped functioning. The list of dialed/received/ missed calls has mysteriously stopped appearing. Rebooting the phone did not help either. It just stopped.

Thankfully found a call log app on the market that works well. But the inbuilt call log just doesn't record the call details anymore. hopefully when i upgrade to ICS, it gets resolved.

I get a notification for missed calls, but clicking on the top bar notification does nothing - it simply opens up the blank dialer screen with no call log.

Let me know if any of you experience this bug.

Posted by se_dude
Just click on settings while in the dialer and click on show call log. You must have hidden the same.

Even when I'm actively trying to find it, I'm struggling, so yes. I think it's completely gone.
This is even when the phone is a little warmed up.

Posted by annafee
okay.. so i can finally get the courage to get this phone. How much did you guys pay for it. In Bangladesh it's approximately 450 euro. I've thought of exchanging one with my Arc .

Posted by NightBlade
Er... I won it.

Posted by sambouka
Here in France the S costs 430 euros and Sony is reimbursing 50 euros = 380 euros
(70 euros if you send them your old SE phone)

Posted by annafee
I guess that's where the Green Heart part comes in.
They use old phones plastics and materials to recycle and make new ones. .

My 3 yellow spots are there 100% of the time. I don't notice them all the time but if I put a white image on the screen I can see the yellow areas and when I put a grey background I see them as white areas.

Get it replaced, you shouldn't have to put up with it. Take it from someone who knows. I have had four handsets all with the same problem. I am currently waiting to see if mine is going to repaired or replaced.
