The leaning tower of Washington?
but seriously, if you can feel the effects in orlando then even 5.9 must be fairly serious
but since when has there been quakes on that side of the US?

There is Washington & Washington state. But yeah very rare it hits east coast compared to west

Apparently there was an earthquake in the Washington, D.C. area on July 16, 2010, when a 3.6 magnitude struck.

ah, ok. I was home in Sydney when the 5.6 earthquake hit Newcastle, NSW which is about 165km (100 miles) from Sydney, and we didn't feel a thing

I heard about that one yet even Australia does not get quakes like New Zealand next door does

I read that some pieces fell off the Cathedral.

Earthquakes in oz are very rare, especially of that magnitude, but while Aussie humour makes fun of NZ much like England does Ireland... NZ is at least 1000 miles away so we don't feel anything that NZ gets, not that we don't fully support them when disaster hits.
When nature hits anywhere we all have to be supportive so I'm waiting to hear the falluout from this latest one. I hear that flights are on hold and all sorts of businesses are evacuated etc etc etc

True indeed!! My brother felt 3 in Wellington months back when they went over to visit his wife's family there. It was only a week or so after Christchurch

Yeah they are on the Ring of Fire which is around the pacific rim. One of the biggest ever quakes happened in Peru & Chile(near by) many years ago

Rubbish. You can get a quake anywhere in the world at anytime. It's just sometimes places that don't get them as much sometimes they just do cos what happens anywhere else on the planet is making the continents constantly shift. Even Ireland which is practically free of earthquakes had a small 2.5 one in Co.Clare last year. Even Britain like we have seen but again it's never on the same scale as Japan,Indonesia or California. Some people though do believe that the tides & the moon have alot to do with quakes. Something to do with gravity. The moon has quakes too all the time. milfe have you experienced the hurricane too??
