well dear friend i ordered mine from SE on Feb 12th and then called SE to confirm and the person there transferred me through 4 different reps, only to tell me that it might be released in 3-4 weeks.
I say screw the reps!!!They have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE on what is going on!!

Take care guys...

Posted by Ze3eZ
Just called SE US e-shop @2-20-03. They said still muddy on availability answer. At least the guy admitted that he had no idea. If the 24th were the due date, don't you think the e-shop would know, or are they just as skiddish at getting burned by the SE producers' claims as we are?

Arghhhh!

Posted by digitalic
Well it looks as though the peeps in UK got there p800s already, must mean that they got it directly shipped from SE, I doubt they got it from a 3rd party, hrmm, I just hope the SE E-Shop in US will have em next week, sigh, this is killing me...

Posted by Ze3eZ
Any update on availability from eshop in the US? Any who ordered get the signature verification form faxed to them (which apparently is necessary for amounts over $500.00). I have tried 5 times to 3 different known working fax numbers and nothing has come through. Stall tactic?

Also, anyone know where a service center is near San Francisco for this phone (anticipating need for updates to be flashed)?

TIA

Digitalic,

Orange received the first shipment of the P800 from SE which is why it is out early. SE are meant to be shipping the UK Sim free version this week sometime but there are a few rumours around as to the reasons why Orange got their phones first and why the Sim free version is delayed a little longer.

hello, iam going to nyc next week and i was wondering if you guy could tell me where i could get a hbh-30 and how much the cost in the states?

thanks

@Ze3eZ

When I called SE to order the phone on the second of Feb, they said they would fax me the credit card verification sheet. After not recieving it for a couple hours, I called them back and had them fax it to another number. I recieved it right away. The guy said he tried the original fax number and it didn't work (later found it was unplugged). He then said he couldn't call me back because I have a five digit extension at work and his form would only fit four!

While on the phone, he gave me an account number. I tried this on the tracking page on SE's site the other day. I was shocked when the number he gave me was one digit too long(I thought SE had some issues with forms)! Sooo....called them back two days ago. Apparently, there's an account number and a sales number for tracking. The lady that told me this really didn't have a clue about when backorders would be filled. She said 3-4 weeks.

Thanks for the update TJ - I will call Tuesday and relay any new information.

Called SE eshop today @ 8:30 am pacific time - still on back order there. I am thinking of paying the extra $100.00 and buying from someone else. Anyone know of a url showing where the sony service centers are? (in case I need to flash). Also, what is the latest firmware version - is it R1D or R1F?

Posted by rymnrsn
I spoke w/ a wholeseller and they said that they should get them end of March and they would ship to stores the next day. I ordered 5 and i have 3 left. I'll let you guys know when I get them. You can check the webpage. http://www.beyondbluwireless.com

Posted by svenbocklandt
I have a P800 that I bought from a Swedish site for $636 + shipping. I have R1B and the typical errors - people can barely hear me when I talk to them. Called support here in the US and they "can't" upgrade the software until the phone is not released. Such crap. Of course they could if they wanted to. But anyway, they didn't know when it would be released so I called the online store. They said "Release is confirmed for March 15, if you order now you'll probably get it in the first two weeks of April".

That means I will have to either go buy a phone so I can have conversations for the next 3 weeks, or I will have to pay some guy to have it flashed

Posted by Ze3eZ
@svenblocklandt

Thanks for the info.

That is exactly what I am worried about regarding buying from 3rd party now. How do you upgrade in the US? Where are the Sony centers that will facilitate the upgrades? What is the latest versions? Man SE sucks right now!

Posted by jbendaou
man i am about to cancel my preorder, SE sucks big time...they keep us in a leach like dogs,,..we just have to wait and whenever they are ready we are supposed to buy shit from them...this is fcked up...last thing i buy from SE is the damn p800, f**k U SONYERICSSON

Posted by digitalic
i'm really f**kin ticked off at SE for these damn delays, they keep stalling the damn release dates, what the f**k is the hold up for this? Sigh, Arghhhh, I'm thinking about just f**kin cancelling my order and go buy me a printer or something, I'm tired of all this damn waiting, arghh... even the SE corp division said this week, and i asked them are you for sure this time and they said yes, f**k, maybe the corp is the same shit as the stupid customer reps, f**kin nobody knows shit... sigh, SE you are really pissing me off... I never had such delay in waiting for something this long in my entire life... this is really ridiculous of you guys, I hope somebody from SE are reading these damn threads!!!

Posted by WoeDee
WOW....sorry to find you guys are upset.
Fortuately, there are options available:
A) Continue to wait patiently
B) Cancel the order and take your business elsewhere
c) there is no c.

Posted by mrj82
I called them earlier today and they told me it might ship out next week. Hopefully if we are lucky that guy was right, we will see.

Are there any online retailers that have the p800 available now?

I know that http://www.expansys.com is still waiting for inventory. Price $722.25 US. Firmware version unknown but probably the latest.

http://www.mobilefly.com claims to have some in stock but requires paypal with a 3.85% surcharge. Price $735.00 US. Firmware version R1D.

http://www.gsmphonesource.com/cellphonespecials.html. Price $899.00 US. Firmware version unknown but software updates included (not sure if this includes firmware flashes)..

Any other vendors out there?

What's the hurry? Just wait until amazon.com have it with rebates for about half the price or less.

I got my t68i for free with rebates from amazom and I'm hoping they do the same with the P800.

i will let phone lovers answer your question about "hurry'

i just got this reply today from SE USA about the P800!!! They said its release is pushed back to early 2nd quarter 2003!!!!!

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Online Support.

We apologize for the issue you are experiencing. We cannot confirm a date, we have heard it will most likely be early in the 2nd quarter.

Best regards,

I hate this!!!!
WHAT ARE THEY DOING??? Just release the damned thing!!!

p.s. i placed a pre-order with the since Feb 10th, but i dont think i'll be getting the phone any soon! Seriously thinking of calling the m up and cancelling the pre-order..

Posted by digitalic
uh wtf, early 2nd quarter? so that means around April now? arghh wtf man.... sigh... f**k SE... I'm getting sick n tired of this shit, they told me a month ago like 2-4 weeks, which is about now, now they say, March, and now early 2nd quarter?!?! WTF is going on man!!! why do they keep stretching the nice dates...

Posted by Ze3eZ
Anyone have an idea of what the hold up is? I have contacted SE e-shop on this issue and still no reply after several inquires. Is this a quality control issue or a design issue (ie./ cr@ppy manufacture issues or change in some major factor - like a better camera)? I have been waiting for this phone since its original expected release in September 2002. SE has only hurt itself from this poor management. I would have bought a T68i to carry me over but I expected the damn p800 any week. I am still stuck with a T39 which is in bad shape. I will never rely on SE again. If 2nd qtr of 2003 is indeed the date, then scr#w it, I'm buying a nokia.

Posted by multipurpose workermonkey
my feelings exactly

if anything i'm going to buy a nokia just to spite SE
if i ran a company this badly and all of my employees were this uninformed the company would fail in a heart beat.

Posted by theassistant
To all of you phone lovers, I feel you. I've been trying to get this phone for my boss. One of you indicated we could get the P800 from Samstores.com. I looked there, then called them at 800-726-9493 to find out the P800 is being recalled. There are some problems with it. So apparently some were sold and then recalled-maybe because of WSJ's Mossberg's poor review of the stylus. Anybody know anything more?

Posted by Ze3eZ
Just talked with SE e-shop US (02-27-2003 @ 3:15 pm Pacific Time) and they said that per manufactures comments as of 02-26-2003 expacted release date is now last week in March or 1st week in April. He did not know if there was a recall. When pressed on cause of delay, he opinioned that probably because of unexpected consumer demand but was unsure. Contrived explanation at best but I don't fault him. I remember hearing that Sony decided not to use Ericsson manufacturers for this product because of high cost of production in Europe. If that was the case, high cost production is better than no production at all. If there was a recall, it would be nice to know why, specially for those expecting to buy from 3rd parties for units already out there. If the Nokia 3650 comes out beofre the P800, I know which way I am going.

I feel your guys’ pain.

I also waited *months* till the T68 was released here. It was quite frustrating to read all those great reviews from Asian and European tech writers, and then to visit the local shops and see nothing but crappy, old moto V60s and nokia 3360s, etc.

Then, they finally released the original T68. But at the same time, there were reports of the newer T68i coming. The sales guy told me there were no big differences between the two, except the “i” could use the communicam. So I bought the T68, but exchanged it for the T68i when I learned it had several additional features included like mms, my pictures and different games (which the salesman failed to mention).

The point is, once I had my shiny, new T68i, I began to read how all the European and Asian users were trying to figure out the best way to flash/upgrade their phones to the T68i software. Although I had to wait longer, I feel the extra time allowed SE and AT&T to fully test and debug the unit. As a result, I’ve never had the need to flash my phone, and it still works as perfectly as it did the day I got it.

I’m going to do the same with the P800. Yes, I want it desperately. But I will probably wait till a few weeks _after_ it is released here, maybe even wait till the second shipment, so that when I finally do get it, it will have the latest and greatest software, and it will probably never require an update. At that point, the phone will be fully mature and ready for the masses, just like my T68i!

Latest e-mail from SE US e-shop to follow. I would buy from 3rd party right now but I do not want to buy a defective unit. If the delay were only due to customer demand then I would have bought a while ago. However, rumors abound about change in camera, change in stylus, recalls, ect. If SE were forthcomming with the reasons for the constant delays I could make a more informed decision. There appears to be no reliable communication between the manfacturer, SE itself, and their e-shop. It is frustrating to say the least.

Just contacted customer support. They now say no release in US yet because there is no carrier in the US slated to pick up the phone. Aparently they do not feel capable of supporting the phones features on different networks through their tech support lines (kinda makes sense). Still doesn't explain the constant delays for direct sales though. Not sure how relaible this information is either because I have heard so many different stories. Still debating 3rd party purchase. I wish SE would come out with a formal statement re delays.

Wow, and I thought I was pissed off. I feel your pain. I've been using a t39m with a paperclip for an antenna since last August. I've been egged on and egged on to wait for this phone, "its just around the corner" kinda thing. Hell, I would have bought a T68 or T68i as an interim phone had I known it would take this long. So I sit and look at my little T39m and think to myself, 'SE lost out of a phone sale from me by their stupidity, no telling how many others they have lost as well'. No wonder why they are taking such big losses.

The phone is available online for a little more, I just want reassurances that I'm not buying a product that has an enhancement or fix about to be released. SE, is a simple press release to much to ask for?

____________

As for the e-mail - it came from sony e-shop.

As for rumors, they have come from posts on this board and on others. The recall rumor came from a post regarding samstores.com. I contacted them and the only response I received was that they were out of stock.

no trust me man, im beyond pissed off about this entire shit, i really do not know what is f**kin taking SE so long to get the phones in, I wish they would at least tell us something so that we can better prepare ourselves instead of sitting here like dogs waiting for them... f**k this is poor excuse for business... shit, well March is tomorrow, they better have something for us next week or i'm gonna call and bitch at them and see what the f**k is going on with this damn delays... every week they extend it... sigh...

Just go here and for 100 bucks more you can get it now and not have to wait forever.

A few questions if you have time:

1. do you have a p800 in stock?
2. what version of firmware?
3. is there a guarantee for future firmware upgrades?
4. was there a recall that you know of (I have only heard rummors re the camera)?

Thank you for your time and effort regarding this matter

Sincerely,

Z

Ze3eZ,

Here are the answers to your question:

1. At the moment I am all sold out in Dallas, Texas. But I have them waiting to be shipped from our warehouse in Sweden. 3-5 day shipping and next day air available.
2. The phone is R1D NEWEST!
3. No guarantee for future firmware. BUT Sony Ericsson does that for you for free!! So dont fall for people telling you free firmware for life/ its just a selling point that is actually free!
4. These are European phones not the USA release. There is NO recall on and P800 and that is confirmed from Sony Ericsson in Sweden were the phone is built.

Hope I can earn your business. And may I remind you that I only accept Credit Card payments from USA from Verified members and Confirmed addresses.

Thanks for your Business!

Thanks so much for the information. Four more questions if you have the time.

1. What is the difference between European and US releases of the phone? Just different manufacturers?

2. Do you know of a URL where I can locate a local (San Francisco), if there is one, Sony Ericsson service center for future flashes?

3. Do you have any knowledge why the US release keeps being pushed back? Rumors abound from change in camera to that no service provider in the US have picked up the phone.

4. Would you mind if I post your reply on message boards regarding the P800. I have found your prompt reply most helpful and I am definitely considering a purchase, specially since the release date has been pushed again to April. I know others would appreciate your insight and may look to you for purchase as well. I will however not post without your permission.

Again, thank you for your time and efforts regarding these questions.

Sincerely,

Z

__________

Ze3eZ,

We at AllGlobaltk do not mind answering your questions. Ofcourse this is what we are hear for. I will answered you questions in the order you sent them to me as.

1. The first part of this answered is a little hard for me to answered. But as far as if it is different manufactures, this is defiantly NO. Sony Ericsson just like Nokia and other manufactures build there phones. The P800 is Made in Sweden from Sony Ericsson. As far as the difference between US and European release, from my experience with working with Mobile Phones there will not be a difference that is noticeable to the normal consumer. I believe this is just another episode of how the Nokia 7210 is being released in North America. The delivered to T-Mobile ready to sell when Nokia told them to take them off shelves and return them all. What I got from T-Mobile and Nokia was that there was a problem with the phone recognizing T-Mobile towers. This is normal because the phones are programmed to work better with the service provider they used, and ofcourse they are locked and software is setup with the provider.

2. The way we located our 3 service centers in Dallas, Texas was we called Sony Ericsson and told them we have a few phones that we would like to service but we do not want to send them in. They will give you a service center around you to wear they can work on it. Have them give you atleast 3 numbers because some of them may not warranty certain phone such as a PDA/Phone like the P800. But most of them will.

3. There are a few reasons why the phone has not yet been released in USA yet. A few them are facts and others are speculations on what I know from the wireless industry. One speculation is that because the phone is so expensive they want to make sure that the phone is bug free. The USA is not a market that spends 700USD on a mobile phone so they want to make sure that the phone is solid. I work with a store here in Dallas that carries the Sony Ericsson P800. I went in to visit with him after I had sold him 20 P800's and he laughed and said that he had sold them all. I was shocked when I knew his price was 1200 for the P800. And this is a few weeks ago not months ago. And I said there is something weird about that who did you sell them to. He told me that a few Sony Ericsson REPS. came in and bought 15 of them. I said ok there can only be one thing that they want to take them off the shelves because there is a big recall. Well that was not the case. The thing is that there was a show in Louisiana and they needed the phones immediately so they can show them at a technology convention to some companies. My speculation is that the phones are not fully manufactured for the USA market yet. Otherwise why would they come and pay so much for the P800. As far as the Service Provider goes. Sony Ericsson has been known to release a GSM phone before a service provider is definite. The T68 was released years ago before a provider was present than Voice Stream at the time took it. Another thing I know from business itself is that all these people that are inquiring about the P800 and are pre-ordering it. I know this for a fact that these large companies do this on purpose to see how the market feel is and how popular the phone will be before it is released. And for example if they get 1000 Pre-Orders they can go to AT&T and use this as a selling point for them to be a provider for the P800. If you catch my drift you can understand there are multiple reasons for the release delay. After all this is not a first for any company including Nokia/Sony Ericsson/ Samsung. The V205 was delayed 4 months and that is a T-Mobile only phone. As far as the camera I am not sure and cannot comment on that but I will be talking to a Sony Ericsson REP later this week and can maybe get back to you on a word. But this DOES NOT make sense for them to change the camera on it when it is released to 85% of the world and there going to change it know after it is almost fully released. You will have allot of pissed off Sony Ericsson Fans in many countries.

4. I do not mind if you post my reply on a Board as long as you put were the e-mail is from. Any information provided, AllGlobaltk is not responsible for any changes in SE's decisions. We are not direct affiliates, so please do NOT go on assumption of this information. All information is from trusted sources.

I hope to earn your business. If I can be in any further assistance to you please do not hesitate to contact me.
