anyone here who experiences inaccuracy with their notification led? in 4.0.3, all notifications worked perfectly. in 4.0.4, it only works when the display is ON, then it remains blinking when it turns OFF. when i receive notifications when the display is OFF, it doesn't work at all.

Posted by Arne Anka
It seems to be wide spread issue and not islolated to Ray (read somewhere that non-sony devices are affected as well, but I'm not 100% about that).

When did you get 4.0.4
I still have the 4.0.3.
Is there any major difference?

3 or 4 days ago, i connected my phone to the laptop then the pc companion informed me that a 4.0.4 is ready for update...so i went for it!

major difference....the led bug, hehe....kidding aside, browsing is a bit faster now but the occassional lags are still there...

i found a workaround though for the led notification bug....i installed sms pop-up, works great for sms only.

@xciter
Try Go SMS pro.
I really like it and it doesn't drain the battery as well. Great App.

Why is that sometimes the phones screen swithes on for a few seconds (for about 5 sec., (as if you had pressed the home button)) than swithes off (for about 10 sec.) it repeats this a couple of times, than keeps the screen swithed off for minutes. After a while it repeats to swith on consecutively few times.

As I observed it makes this "trick" almost every time after I restart/turn on my phone, but after a while something should happen, and than the screen remains swithed off until you press the home or on/off button. Very rarely it happens also long time after the last restart. During these screen switch on/off sessions the battery graph in the setting indicates the phone is "awake" and the "screen is on", and the battery discharge graph is much steeper on those areas, and the phone discharges faster indeed.

For this reason I don't even dare to restart my phone (which as I know would be reccommended in every few days), because as I observed this problem occures mostly after I restart/turn on my phone.

As I recall somewhere I'we read about this issue, but I can't find anything about it.

This alone makes it a pretty enticing handset, running the latest version of Android - 2.3 Gingerbread, but when you add the 8MP Exmor R camera sensor on the back with LED video light.

i hope there's a new FW in the works.

the LED bug kills me, and i need more wifi stability. my phone keeps on restarting when connected to wifi using the facebook app

I observed this "problem" on my phone , it was an app gone wild "Xperia wallpapers " that made this switches on-off , I removed de app and everythis is ok now . Hope it helps .

I also noticed a really bad battery drain recently... found the culprit, Facebook Inside, specifically the calendar sync.

Since you can't uninstall it, I disabled it in the App management menu.

Regarding SMS... I'm just using the default SMS app and SMS Pop up, but I'm finding it a bit on the slow side. Is Go SMS Pro faster than the default SMS app and SMS Pop-up combined? I kinda wanna keep the ICS Holo look and not go with some iOS look-alike

@jp, had you tried using a custom rom, and using some kernels and scripts to save some battery life?

Posted by jplacson
Hi limemint, no not running a custom rom on my ray, just the official ICS rom. I've had no problems w/ it so far so I'm happy.

I'm happy I found a way to disable a few built in apps as well.

My biggest battery eater is really the fact that I leave my 3G on (as well as wifi and BT) and that I always chat/IM with my phone.

4.1.B.0.587, Android 4.0.4. Seems to work, and I don't see anything that differs from before, other than maybe that the dialing app starts up somewhat faster. Anyone that know where to find some kind of release notes?

cons in 4.1.B.0.587 update:
1. LED no work for sms & application like WhatsApp.
2. Wifi always loop after a minutes (5-10 minutes). Very bad connection for me!
3. Still battery drain fast.

New question:
My Ray came with a 4 GB class-2 Micro SD, which I immediately replaced with a Kingston 32 GB class-4 Micro SD. Would I gain any performance by replacing that card with a 32 GB class-10 card? The prices of such cards are reasonably low nowadays. And if so, since I have almost all apps installed on the SD card, which method is the most effective to copy the contents from the old SD card to the new without having to re-install all apps?

Posted by jplacson
Yes it did make a difference for me.

I upgraded from a class 2 to a class 6 it's not magic, but it is a noticeable difference.

I use a Mac, I used disk utility to clone my old SD card into the new one.

Have you seen Xperia SX?

After using Xperia Ray for almost a year, I don't know how I supposed to use those big\\bulky phones any more

SX has similar size specs.

Posted by jplacson
The ray really spoils huh? Will the SX be sold outside Japan?

Posted by OffLineR
It doesn't seem so

Friends how do you HARD RESET Ray??
The system crashed on my sisters...

yeahh...
the first xray phone from sony...
how much it cost ???

Posted by puestadelsol
My Xperia ray runs gingerbread 2.3.4, build number 4.0.2.A.0.42.
Is it possible any official way to update to 4.0.2.A.0.62, without updating to ICS?
What would be the improvements? Could my unstable WiFi connections be fixed with this update?

Any news from xperia ray?

Ray 3 as in Z1f/s ? Coming soon.
New updates won't be possible I think.

Yeah, but with differents design.

If the Ray's screen size could be bumped just a bit bigger, give it a dual-core processor, and more internal storage (keeping the SD card slot), that'd be a nice phone. Oh, I just described the SX If Sony could stuff in really good audio as well (S-Master amp etc) that would be a nice bonus. Z1f's going to be just a bit on the big side for my preference, 4" screen at maximum would have been my choice.

Posted by emporium
Sony's fans craving for Xperia SX on every forum. It's not explainable way Sony did not release that phone globaly. It would be perfect for me too, but costs insanely on ebay. And Z1f, insanely x2 but it sels better than iPhone 5S in Japan.

Please somebody help me, how could I edit/create new themes for Xperia ray. There are some themes which you can install witout rooting, as normal apk and there is a tutorial also, to create new themes (but unfortunately I couldn't succeed to create new one), as I described here:
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=206498

Please help me, or describe what should I do, if you have already tried to create themes, or try following the tutorial.
Thanks

Today, when I've tried to save a contact in my Xperia ray, I've got the message Sorry! The application Contacts has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again! And the only option was the forced close.

I've tried to reboot the phone, but I still can't save any new number. The phonebook functions and 2-3 weeks ago I've saved new contacts, but now it's impossible.

Please somebody help me ASAP!

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Have you tried connecting to SEUS (if that still exists) or PC Companion and doing a FW repair? That may help. Or are you Rooted and running a custom ROM?

Posted by puestadelsol
No, mine has the original 2.3 android on it. With Seus is just possible the firmware update and so I would get the even more buggy ICS.

Posted by RandomCarpet
As I see it, there could be two possible reasons for this:
- you are out of free space on your internal storage
- something is wrong with the integrity of your contacts data

What you can try to do:
1. Backup (sync) your contacts/phone book with your Google account, if not already synced.
2. Clear the data for the "Contacts" app.
3. Sync again with Google to restore your existing contacts to your phone.
4. Try to add the new contact again.

The glass cover to the lens seems to have gone ... a bit odd. I don't think it's scratched, more like there's a coating on it that's gone oddly patchy. Anyone else have this ? Annoyingly it's part of the phone rather than the back case, which has a cut-out for this lens cover / outer element, so you can't just get a new back to fix it.

I'd like to change the aluminum frame on the XPERIA Ray, now I have a black and white I would, I ordered it from ebay and the parts are original, anyone got any advice on how to do this? thank you

Posted by emporium
You will have to disassemble it?

Anyone know where the official Sony ICS update has gone ? I remember being offered it by the Sony PC software shortly after it came out, but no sign of Sony PC Companion doing so now as far as I can see, it claims the software is up to date. I'm on 2.3.4 and Strava is crashing so often I thought I'd try ICS even if it meant some performance issues elsewhere (I'm so short of space and out of date now that I don't really run much else, and frankly it's worth the gamble - worst case scenario is it confirms I need to buy a new phone, which is kinda true anyway).

I had tried rom both Lollipop and Marshmallow on my Xperia Ray, check it out here :
