It's soooooooooooooooo sexy!!!!!! And yet in the store it looked dull Camera is pretty good when I use it

Posted by lolstebbo
Just got mine yesterday, I bought the black one. The battery life is remarkable and much better than my old X10 mini pro, even with a Cyanogen-based ROM. At this point in time yesterday, the X10mp would've been at 70-something%. My ray is at 82%. Awesome. The size is perfect for me, too; the phone's also nice and speedy (the X10mp was laggy right out of the box, but this one is crazy speedy).

I'm pretty satisfied with the camera. Considering pictures I take on my phone usually just go to Facebook (and therefore I'm not going to bother pixel peeping), I'm kinda blown away. Sample pic:

Cool, that is a decent night picture Only 2 things about the Ray I not much like is the photo light but I never do much flash photography anyway but it's fine for close ups & face shots. And the screen really sticks finger prints

The photo light doesn't bother me. I never use on-board flashes (unless it's for strobing), anyway.

Yeah and I guess it was so slim they could not fit camera key

Posted by Bonovox
Eh?? Mine says 2.3.3 & SEUS,PC Companion & the phone says I have latest firmware Perhaps 2.3.4 is not out in every country yet??

Wow ray has continuous focus in video recording. Thanks bronxdude. I wish they have given same thing in mini pro as well. Here in India, ray is being released tomorrow and its price is 19k. Bit overprice for me.

yup, not out in every country. yet.

here, its still 2.3.3. but on SE product blog, they say that 2.3.4 has been out to Nordic countries first.

Had to take my Xray back for a replacement as it wouldnt load up and the phone just kept vibrating. Also picked up a HTC Wildfire S

Posted by Bonovox
I got the Samsung Wave 2 also for £99 its a solid device

Posted by Swag
My god! Just installed CM7.1 on my gold beauty and it's incredibly fast now. The difference between this and stock is amazing. And now I get access to a lot of stuff on Market that was not available with the stock ROM. Right now I'm running it at 1,5GHz.

Camera flash doesn't currently work, but if you can sacrifice that, I would recommend installing it.

Posted by Bonovox
I have no idea about that

Sony Ericsson emailed me back stating the 2.3.4 update has rollout but gradually. It's not hit all regions yet. I guess they do that sometimes not to over load the servers

Posted by Rookwise
Finally had chance to set my Xray up. Certainly is a fingerprint magnet on the screen and the home button feels fragile. Will take a little getting used to but seems ok. Only time will tell if it replaces my X10 completely though.

Posted by Bonovox
My home button feels solid. The screen is a real finger print magnet yes I use a micro fiber cloth it works best.

Posted by Rookwise
It might just be me. I find the home button a bit fragile looking. It could be that its sturdy. Gonna be getting a case for it though. Using the standard one that comes with the X10 atm as my MOFFI case is too big.

Go for mx video player pro or mobo player.. Check the market.. Both free and paid versions available

Posted by jplacson
For video conversions... I like Handbrake. I use the iPhone 4 preset. This can be played by most Androids with resolution to spare.

Format Factory choose encoding with HD-AVC MP4 profile with bit rate around 2000 and FPS 29/30, it should work fine.

Thanks HxH! I can't seem to find any reference though, but does Format Factory convert to and from MKV as well?

Posted by ceaser2008
I have been using format factory for quite some time now. I have been using it to convert videos for my k850 in mp4 format. Yes it does convert the mkv files to mp4 but i dont know if it can convert back to mkv. I need to check it. Currently i am from mobile. I will report back here about it.

Could you tell instead of time will it replace X10 completely. (I had enough of huge screens )

Posted by jplacson
OfflineR, oh yes... the Xray is actually closer to the arc than the X10. The other options are the Xperia Mini and Mini Pro which are excellent in their own respect.

Posted by OffLineR
Since the other choices not an option for me, I'll buy a Ray today

lesson learned for tonight - NEVER tinker with your phone's settings. Especially if its android.

I was trying to clear some memory by clearing the data on every single application. Now I have to redo my playlist, and every other settings i had.

Look from the bright side of things - you don`t have to make plans for tonight!

HELP!

Since i tinkered with my phone settings, my playlist was removed.

I checked on my songs, they're still stored. However, when I play a song, I noticed that the artist's name is now written in all caps. I checked on the albums, every album is stored under an all-caps artist name.

this has not happened before and it annoys me. she's my fave artist. thats why i want to correct this. i tried removing the whole folder (containing 61 songs), then putting it back, to no avail

please help. thanks

Oh, sorry!
Why not removing the whole playlist and install all the songs again... I guess it would be less irritating then trying different things with unknown effect.

How to move data from X10 to Ray.

Here what I do: I have installed the old but reliable Backup & Restore application that was used before on early X10 firmware.

Now I am restoring everything on XRay.

Restoring right now.
Hopefully everything will work fine

Posted by OffLineR
It worked awesomely smooth

Quite possibly yes it could as its is basically an X10 apart from being slightly smaller, thinner, slightly faster and has a front camera.

What I don't like about the ray:

Occasional screen flicker. Happens across the middle of the screen every few seconds when using the default browser.

No camera button. Have tried to get used to touch focus before but really gets on my nerves.

Over sensitive touch keys. The back and menu touch keys can easily be activated by accident. Not good when your halfway through reading something.

Very poor screen in daylight. Brightness has to be almost 100% to see the screen.

Home key feels wobbly/fragile. I'm using my third replacement Ray and I've noticed this on all three phones.

Things I like:

Everything I liked/used in the x10 can be used on the ray

WiFi connects faster

Portrait keyboard is better than the x10's

Thin/less bulky size

Earpiece is much louder over the x10. Can actually make out what is being said better and don't feel the need to use my hbh-pv740 as often.

Probably more as I go along but for now I like the Xray and hope the phone gets more support from in the future.

My Ray has gone back for a refund. Why?? That annoying bloody flickering. You know what it is?? When it happens very quickly you see a yellow like warning symbol appear on the screen the signal drops out & what I also kept getting was internet cut off's. I thought it was my sim card but was not in the end. I thought the screen was fine in sunlight but just not as good as x10 was.

Using data connection I do occasionally get a prompt saying there is no connection even though there was. The page then loads after.
Imo the data cut off and screen flicker are both firmware related and can be an easy fix by

Posted by Bonovox
Yeah, but right now I just have no more patience with I have tried nearly all Xperia phones now & have come to my final conclusion. There's better out there!!

i tried that, but the artist name is my problem.

Posted by ceaser2008
The screen flickering problem was already discussed by many phone reviewer sites just prior to its release. They also said it as a software bug. So next software update should correct it.

Posted by Rookwise
Hopefully it will. There seem to be quite a few nice additions coming in the 2.3.4 firmware from what I read on Xperia blog.
I'm starting to get the feeling that the Ray was rushed out before it was actually finished (kinda like certain other phones have done). I can understand why some people are starting to be put off by it.
It's actually a nice phone but has so far been spoiled by poor Sony Ericsson QC.

I was thinking of taking mine back and buying a Wildfire S but I eventually decided on sticking with the Ray.

Posted by Bonovox
I would buy a different HTC than the WFS. With the Ray i worried also about its longevity as it all seems so fragile

Posted by OffLineR
I like the Ray quite a lot.
There are minor software glitches which can be fixed quite easily.
Hopefully take care of Ray as much as X10 (remember the early Andorid 1.6 days)
Ray seems to be far a head of X10's first release.

One thing is annoying but can be get used to that when you slide something on the screen you can accidently hit back button.

Damn it is sexy and it is a chick magnet even though they say they like my x10 more than this.
I can show them my X10 at home anytime
