How does the connectivity even work? Thought you can only connect wireless hardware with honeycomb

The only thing that i do not like about this phone is the 3.5mm Audio Jack which looks like a lump.

a closer look of the 3.5mm audio jack in the link below (4th pic from the top)

From mobile-review.com:

"The second accessory is a cradle that you can put upright on the table or lay it down horizontally and it also features the Sony Ericsson app. On the back side of the cradle there is an HDMI slot and when you connect it to your TV a respective app is launched.
You can connect a wireless keyboard and a mouse (I used SE Play) to get a kind of a mini PC with a large screen. It is very convenient for web browsing, email and other apps and it also supports wireless gamepads for playing (during the demo they used a wireless PS3 gamepad). "

I liked the bold part very much but the thing I'm not getting to know how it works yet is that the dock only has a USB cable to connect to the phone, so where the HDMI signal goes then ?? does the phone has MHL so the dock uses the USB to have the HDMI signal ? or it doesn't support MHL but another Sony thingies ?

and if the Dock can charge the phone... where's the charger input ?

At the back there is an HDMI output, a short micro-USB cable to attach to your phone and a spare micro-USB connector used as charger input.

Take a closer look, you may need to zoom or search for larger/more detailed picture of the ports

What I see are two ports
1- USB female port, this one is very clear, take this pic to be sure
2- A mini HDMI socket, this one is hard to know, I think you mis-recognized the port duo to the similarities between miniHDMI and microUSB female ports... you need to take a closer look to recognize the port correctly...

the main and more clear different between miniHDMI and microUSB female port is the connectors location, in miniHDMI the connector is located in the middle and there's pins on both sides of it, in microUSB the connector is very close to the wider base of the connector, while pins are in one side only...
http://www.mobile-review.com/[....]ge/sonyericsson-new/pic/17.jpg
http://www.mobile-review.com/[....]sonyericsson-new/off/acc/4.jpg

both pics are small, but you can zoom the first picture and you will see the middle placed connector
also the microUSB port does have much fewer pins (4 pins only) that can be seen easily, but pins in miniHDMI are more (19pins) and very hard to see coz of their size so this is miniHDMI port and not microUSB...

at least from the pics I saw... if any one have more pics or larger ones please provide

Maybe it is a mini-HDMI, but it still has a flash symbol right below it, which usually indicats it is used for charging.

@Arne Anka,

I've already saw that, but as I told you, what I'm assuming is not 100% correct as it's only based on two low-res pictures and what a guy from mobile-review saw and said "On the back side of the cradle there is an HDMI slot"...

This thing, along with the fact that the Dock only connects to the phone using USB and still provide HDMI makes me wonder if Xperia line of phones actually support MHL in some way.. even the standard MHL one, or non-standard one which can explain why didn't advertise the feature...

if this is true, then can use either microUSB or miniHDMI for charging using some sort of adapter or a multi-way cable that connect to the dock only using the miniHDMI but can charge and connect to a TV or PC using USB in the same time...

does any one here have an Arc/Neo & MHL cable ( like the one used in GS2 ) so he can connect it to the microUSB of the phone and an HDMI input in a TV ?

So when can we buy Ray and from where?
Which country will be the first to have it, and what webshop do you use to buy it from then?

It is a micro USB connector, not a mini-HDMI.

Tell that to Xajel, not me (I just repeated what he said).

Is the device supporting HDMI output at all as has been stated in some reviews and if so, which port is used for that ?

I'd say that depends on the quality. But you're probably right.

@hihihans
It's a bit expensive, but don't forget it has the same specs as flagship Xperia arc but smaller screen and no HDMI (it has front camera instead). There is £70 difference in price between arc and ray at play.com.

Neo also have the same specs, but Arc is clearly superior. Don't count on specs. They tell nothing about the quality of components.
Crap audio quality in video-recordings done by Neo, compared to those done by Arc. Who's to say Ray won't disappoint the same way in other areas. Won't surprise me one bit.

I am currently trying to find out My guess is that there is a TV out via MicroUSB. But that's just a guess atm

@ rog. You mean MHL?

Posted by rog
Might be MHL, I don't know (yet)

This could be a stupid question, but wondered if anyone knew whether the menu page can rotate to landscape mode? A small feature I know but would be useful to have! Thanks

Only thing I am not fond of with this phone is 3.3 inch display is a little too small. My Neo is just about right @ 3.7 inches. Nice to see though a Android phone made of metal

Hmm... seems cheap to me. I hope that doesn't mean the quality of video-recordings is like the one on Neo, but that price sure indicates that it is.

Posted by Bonovox
My Neo has great video recording nothing wrong with it except not best audio but still ok.

Posted by arcmhyke
I want Neo, but still no stock here in the Philippines yet...

but right now i also like Ray, choosing a SE phone is very complicated right now because of the delays

Posted by Legen
Neo is kinda ugly i think. The Ray on the other hand is thoroughly good looking

Posted by Bonovox
Neo in the hand in reality it's gorgeous

Posted by Legen
Really? Never seen it in person. Will go check it out

Posted by Bonovox
Yeah I have one it feels & looks great

Kssh! Move to your own thread

Posted by Bonovox
Ray looks great but has a smaller screen

Posted by altemyr
Well, the Ray definitely gives me that want-to-have feeling

I second it mate, Arc is too big for me, XRAY is the perfect fit

Posted by jplacson
Ya, I'm really tired of larger screens. Besides, has a screensize for almost everyone.

Posted by Bonovox
Yeah my Neo 3.7 inch screen feels just right not too big not too small.

That's right. But it doesn't have keyboard for everyone. I want neo with hardware keyboard ( xperia pro ). Anyway, it might is just me, but the Ray looks like the most solid xperia up to date.

Posted by mr_lou
Saw the first video sample at YouTube recorded by Ray. It looks/sounds promising.
But I'll still refrain myself from having any expectations.

...as the company’s stylish 3.2-inch Android device that’s probably supposed to be more affordable than its (literally) bigger brothers, the Xperia Neo and the Xperia Arc.

I don't like the sound of that. Neo was also called a cheaper version of the Arc, and most people seem to agree the Neo is rather sluggish compared to the Arc.
I don't want a cheaper version of Arc. I want an equal version of Arc, only a bit smaller. If possible, even a better version of the Arc. I don't care about the price.

Posted by hihihans
Ray is made of better material therefore it will be more expensive as Neo.
I'll buy it on contract so the actual prize is not really important for me.

Posted by Bonovox
It is a nice handset

That's very true. Now if only the features wasn't reduced along with screensize, that would be great.

That was kinda my point... you wanted a larger screen w/ keyboard... has the Pro.. for those that want a smaller screen and a keyboard, they have the Mini Pro.

Wow looks nice. I think the smaller screen with the high pixel density will make it look sharper. Even my Neo 3.7 inch looks sharp enough.
