WTH! I was considering switching to Mini from my X10 Mini

i was thinking to upgrade my mini pro but the camera is a draw back

i will get an arc / arc s

Most of the newer Xperia phones have poor detailing on the cameras. That is why they are so fast, the file size is so small. You can get decent pics if you try

I was thinking of upgrading to the xperia mini from my x10 mini but having second thoughts also now.

I like the size of the x10 mini and the newer xperia mini feels alot chunkier in the hand also has a worse camera. Whats the point in paying good money for downgrades in some departments?

There arnt any other options though in this kind of size.

Purchased a black Mini in India a few days ago. It is a lovely little device. The salesman told me that I needed to install anti-virus software in the phone. I am new to Android devices, so I have the following questions:

1) Do I really need to install antivirus software in the phone?
2) And, if so, what is the best one to purchase and install?

No you dont, thats a lie. Android is not like a pc, you cant just get a virus. You can however install bad apps, but common sense is the cure for that (read reviews of apps you are unsure of)

Thank you for your very prompt response.
I suspected as much that's why I told him that I'll look into installing it later.

How much did you pay for Xperia mini in rupee??

According to my research of mini pro, it is already equipped with one antivirus software with one year licence. I think its antivir.

I paid Rs. 12.7K, cash.
The mini does not come with any AV.
It also does not come with a screen protector.

Posted by ceaser2008
Thats good price. The mini pro is at 15.4 k.

Here in India, who wants screen protector. You can easily get it done at any mobile shop at Rs. 20. I have screen protector stick on my k850 for last 3 years and still no edge has come off.

You're complaining 'bout the camera on mini/pro? On these price range?
To think that it is "bang for the buck" Android phone? Name one Android phone on this range that has a super camera.

I have a Pentax Optio 550 camera, it has a 5mp sensor and the file size is roughly the same. Files from the mini pro are between 900Kb and 1MB, files from the camera are around 1.1MB, and look absolutely great (the Optio 550 was one of the best compact cameras on the market in 2003). I don't see JPEG compression artifacts when looking at Mini/Mini Pro pictures. So it is not compression that is causing poor detail, it's the high noise reduction that is applied to photos, and so the problem is the sensor (too noisy).
It is true: SE could have done better, but probably this is the best sensor they can use right now. That said, we should stop comparing the mini/mini pro camera with phones that cost twice or three times...

Sony is notorious for heavy noise reduction in their Cybershots; I'm completely unsurprised that SE phones get treated to the same processing scheme.

roosevelt92, go for mini pro. 3g has already arrived in India so sooner or later, video calling will be started. I think Tata Docomo has already started that. Though 3g service is too costly to use, but looking ahead in future, it will get cheaper so go for mini pro.

pt020, Noooooooooo. I think you are the first to report this. Pls get it done. Waiting for your reviews.

That's strange cos my Mini Pro had a solid slider especially when opened. When closed after 2 weeks it wobbled a little but nothing major. Yet when I had my older w995 it wobbled like saggy breasts I have a manufacturer refurbished red w995 from Ebay arriving this week. Got it for £80

Mini pro is just bit costlier, not much that u cannot afford. Go for mini pro. If u require front camera go for pro. Video calling is available here in tamilnadu. However i use only my 3g connection for making video chats through skype or gtalk. Since there is no video call options by default in all xperias unless u have the skype or gtalk u cant make video calls though u hav 3g enabled. So no need to bother about video calls provided u have 3g nabled.

wow.. this is what i am expecting from this little monster.

Posted by adnansanni
Guys I've joined the club yesterday...
Bought the white color. It took 21900 Taka ($292US).

I haven't found any good screen protector yet. Has it really Scratch-resistant surface? I know there aren't any phones that fully scratch-resistant display; even iPhone gets scratches. But my question is, how good/bad is it?

Posted by Bonovox
Its not Gorilla glass its not mineral glass it just has a scratch resistant coating so i read.

Posted by tranced
Today I went to Orange, asked them if they were bringing other members of the Xperia family and they said yes. The Xperia Play. Gosh! I can't believe they ain't getting the Mini Pro!!!!

Posted by adnansanni
Bonovox: Thanks. Did you use your one with protector or without protector?

tranced: Yeah, For unknown reasons, These aren't available properly yet. In my country, SonyEricsson dealer had no idea about mini/mini-pro in last week. They just have these in this week.

Posted by Bonovox
Without but a protector comes in the box. Did you not get one??

Posted by ceaser2008
congrats adnan for your new purchase. Which monster did you buy??? Mini or mini pro ????

adnan, did you get the extra pink back cover as pt020 got ????

Posted by adnansanni
@Bonovox: One piece of transparent paper is attached on display. Every time I touch the display it gets scratches. I don’t call it screen-protector. It is just an ordinary paper. Even the surface isn’t smooth. I don’t get any other extra protector on box.

@ceaser2008: Thank you Ceaser. Ohhh I forgot, this topic for both phones. I have the mini pro. Nope I didn’t get the extra pink back cover. In box (very tiny box); it has phone, charger without cable, data/charger cable, battery, headphones and 2GB memory card. Nothing else. Even not some manuals. Maybe that’s why this is called Greenheart.

@pt020: You should put it on… accident happen any time…

@all: why is it calling SK17i?
Mini/Mini-Pro have imported in my country from Indonesia as box said. But made by China. Where some information/IMEI number printed on a sticker on side of the box, it said SK17i as name of the phone. But front of the box said Xperia mini pro. Maybe it is branded to Indonesian operator. I’m not sure. There are built-in some useless crappy apps. Some can uninstall, some can’t. Even after hard-reset they come back. Every time I close apps with task-killer; some of crappy apps start automatically. I hate this behavior.

I want to give a special thanks to Bonovox. He is the one, who inspiring me to get this phone. This phone is truly a legendary phone from SonyEricsson.

Posted by Bonovox
Did you see some of my photos then?? Thanks!! The protective layer out of the box is just for protection whilst in transit I guess. You can change your Avatar now to Mini Pro

Adnan, here in India, according to sony man, white is not available for sell. Only black one is available. And they provide blue back cover with it. I am going to buy it next month at diwali time. As a birthday present to my self.

Posted by adnansanni
That would be best birthday gift to you... you'll gonna to like it... The black one has rubberized back cover. Which is good.

Posted by ceaser2008
Thanks adnan.

By the way, which handsfree did you got with your phone. Creppy button type or in-ear type ?? Check this youtube video by an indian company. In that he is showing we get in-ear type handsfree. Plus blue back cover which was confirmed by sony-man. I need to visit again sony ericsson outlet to inquire about handsfree.

Xperia mini pro unboxing

Adnan, pls dont forget to post your early experience with your phone.
