I have no idea but its not the screen for sure cos I just listened close up in a quiet room. Nothing. The static noise not buzzing is also only in left speaker side. I assume it is stereo sound cos it sounded stereo to me as sounds were going from one side to the other on my pc. But as I said noise is not that loud. Later on I shall upload a video to You Tube from my Pro.

Hopefully this link works I just opened a new You Tube channel. I did a video on the golf course & you can hear the sound if you turn it up. What I think it sounds like is a cricket. Maybe one got stuck in production

But I can assure you it's not the screen for sure. And in this video my brothers 2nd shot is awful @pt020 that's interesting I'll try that later on

yeah i agree with Bonovox i have kept the screen on and listened to the phone as well...and nope....there is no static sound whatsoever....it only appears when i record a video...and the volume isnt too bad so doesn't bother me too much!

other than that i m very happy with this phone...altho at the moment i m so excited about it....i use it constantly and havent yet got the battery to last me the whole day...lol...but the way i use it at the moment i don't expect it to...hopefully after a few days when the novelty has worn out a bit it should last a bit longer!

other than that...well the interface is very fast and fluid...definitely comparable to samsung galaxy s2 may be not quite iphone4 tho especially in homescreen probably because i have a lot of widgets loaded on and stuff i do get a little bit of jitter at times! may be the ice cream sandwich update when that comes may eventually fix the slight jitteriness as that brings more gpu based animations and stuff

Posted by Bonovox
Yes it is fast & no real issues so far so it's thumbs up for for the Pro. My battery so far I have made it last 2 days at one point but only just. As for the cricket sound it is not very loud & not really bothersome to me.

Has anyone tried unchecking the "noise suppression" in call settings?
It seems when it's on to increase the volume of static noise.

Posted by airefc
Does anybody know if the Xperia Mini has the static background noise the same as the pro?

No there is no static noise during calls. I already said a hundred times it's only during video recording. As for the Mini having the noise the answer is no

Hey guys, just got my mini (st15i) in the mail a few days ago. It's great! Everyone seems to compliment the phone's compactness. For my purposes it's more than enough, although I must admit that battery life is a bit weak (but that may be just because I've been fooling around with it non stop ). I should say that RAM seems to run out pretty quickly should you be a widget junkie like me, but as long as you have good memory management the phone works pretty smoothly.

Have a good one.

This is something that i really dont want to read or listen about this phone.

There is 512mb of ram on the Pro & I never run out of ram do not worry. Depends how many apps your running if your pushing the phone to it's limits it will run out

Posted by HxH
it depend on your application management at a time?

512Mb is more than enough for mid-end phone

if you can't make it right how much you have is never enough

Posted by Bonovox
I never really run more than 2 or 3 apps at once on any phone. I don't need to

Posted by pekos22
Does anyone else have trouble getting the home screen to landscape mode without flipping the keypad out? - Sorry if this has already been addressed.

Posted by Bonovox
That's because it only goes to landscape with keypad open

I realise that, but why only when kepad open? - I just cant help but think sometimes the accelerometer is faulty. Just feels incomplete.

Posted by Bonovox
Because it's a pull out qwerty keyboard phone

With the latest OS update on the 2011 series, there is much more efficient app management. I've seen a marked improvement - my phone used to lag with less than 80Mb ram now it runs as smooth as butter with a lot less and I have some big ass apps running.

Now, with the latest update I hardly need to worry about what apps I have running. Google certainly know what they're doing.

That's weird. According to phonearena both phones should come equipped with 512mb of RAM. Yet, when I run the quick system info app. it tells me that the phone's equipped with 335 mb of ram, and when I check the "running services" section of the phone the numbers add up to 317mb total. Am I missing something, or is shortselling the public?

Sorry for being so paranoid, it's just that memory managment is kinda important to me since I like my apps to have their breathing room.

Posted by ceaser2008
Is anybody here using operamini ?? That too in landscape mode.

Posted by Bonovox
Yes I use Opera. The ram is the same on all handsets. And yea you cam use Opera in landscape. They show the amount of ram plus the amount available to the user.

Sorry for being slow, but are you saying that the 335mb of ram I'm seeing on my phone is the amount of "allowed" memory to be used by apps? If that's the case, and my phone does come equipped with 512mb, where's the remaining 177mb?

Posted by jplacson
I'm not familiar with the actual RAM usage of Android, but on most computer systems, the OS will allocate RAM for the system (this is usually hidden from the user, so this may be the missing 177MB), then background tasks, running apps, then free RAM.

The 300+ MB RAM you see may be FREE RAM, and the other 300+ may be RAM in use... since this fluctuates faster on mobile devices than on full systems so you may see discrepancies on total amounts unless you have a memory app than can show you actual (live) usage statistics of your memory.

Posted by Bonovox
It's the same with a pc. Look at your pc ram it will show 2.75 gigs byte out of 3 gigs byte of ram. In a phone I think the 177mb missing is the system usage. It's not just SE phones. Samsung Galaxy S 2 says out of the gig of ram it has 870 or so is available.

If the graphic chip uses shared memory (most likely), then part of the RAM will be used for the graphic chip and hence no being available for apps.

Oh ok. I think I get it now. Thanks for the help guys...

I wonder how much MB does Xperia 2011 GPU uses?

64MB/128MB or 160MB? or the whole 177MB?

Digressing from the RAM discussions and moving towards aesthetics, can anybody confirm whether the rear of the *BLACK* Mini Pro is gloss or matt? If it's gloss, I'm getting a white one...

Posted by Bonovox
Its mat

Thanks Bonovox!

I have two questions for the Xperia mini pro users.

1. Can we use the LED flash as a torch light ?? Like in K850i.

2. Do we have smart search option while dialing the number?? Means if i want to call sean, i would just press 7326 which are the number for the word sean on normal keypad. Can we dial this way or we have to open the phonebook and browse the all contacts to reach the desired one ??

Posted by roosevelt92
yeah this comes to my phone i m really getting curious for it to buy it ... next month i will have this phone but anyone please tell does it support the hd games or not ? it doesn't matter for me whether it support or not but i want to clarify... i used it last Sunday it makes me crazy video recording are awesome... i love my Sony Ericsson

Posted by Bonovox
Ceaser yes you can use the LED as a torch but you just download an app for it from Market which is free. As for smart dialing yes to that too

Posted by ceaser2008
Oh great. A step closer to obsession from loving.

Posted by Bonovox
Mine is called Flashlight downloaded from Market free and you just open it and click on screen and led comes on.

Yeah, problem with O2 is they put stuff in their brochure & you ask them & they say it's not out yet

Check this youtube video on mini pro. In earlier part, when returning to main screen, the phone seems to lag. Also while browsing photo gallery, it lags. But again i think, the phone shown in video has been loaded with excessive memory so it is lagging.

Xperia mini pro

Is any one using 16 gb or 32 gb memory card with their mini pro?

Ceaser s u can
1. Use Application "Quick settings" to use flash as torch. This app has extra settings which u can access from the status bar anywhere. Switch pro and led falsh also does this functionality but they are widgets.
2. U can download go dialer to enable the smart search.
They are free from market except switch pro.

Bono £229+ 10 seems costly for PAG.
In india its availabe for around £200 sim free. Sorry if i get miss Anything.

What is the latest android version in the Xperia mini? Is it 2.3.3 or 2.3.4?

Has the 2.3.4 update been released yet?

2.3.3 is the latest. 2.3.4 will be releast around October this year.

You can read more about it here.

No lag on my unit either, the 2011 mini pro is selling in HK for HKD $2,189 ( USD $ 280). Only have a 4GB SD card btw. Quality is outstanding , specially for the price and the camera looks promising. Retired my beloved W995 yesterday after porting the contacts over.

Installed Juice Defender to prolong battery life, tried it before and it worked great on the other phone. It's specially useful for me since I have hotspot at home & the JDefender is smart enough to prioritize Wifi over 3G for data and only turns on the Wifi if a known & trusted hotspot is within range.
