Build quality in my opinion is solid , the back is pretty sturdy & don't see there being any issues with creaking over time.

The camera i've only had a brief play with but seemed pretty decent with plenty of options & the pics on my pc monitor looked very good for a 5 megapixel snapper.

as I say overall the phone software is super zippy with no slowdown & some really good added features like X-loud etc...

it's just I feel over time the screen size may prove an issue for me for what i will need my phone for so am going to have to sell it on.

Posted by Bonovox
Oh good. You should have bought it online from Carphone cos of distance selling regulations you can return it.

Price's in India
Xperia Mini - 15,000rs [€236 , $340]
Xperia Mini Pro - 15,700rs [€248, $356]

Both Prices seems to be reasonable

I'm sorry, but if the above is true, the Mini is horribly priced.

1. No front camera
2. No QWERTY keyboard

and yet only ~Rs. 700 cheaper. Pricing FAIL!

12k would have been the sweet spot for the Mini.

Btw, just checked, also available @ Letsbuy: 14.2k after discount coupon

Agree with you..Seems Only in India Mini n Mini Pro is Expensive and rest of the worth its quite cheaper..
Their seem no difference between Mini n Mini Pro Price.. Hope they Reduce some more Price Quickly..

Hey guys... Don't mean to hijack the thread or anything, but over in another section of the forum I posted a question as to whether or not this phone would work at 3G speeds over on T-Mobile USA's network...

Anybody know? How slow would 2G transfer speeds be if 3G didn't work?

Posted by rjs675
@Bonovox
Sorry for all the questions- want to know whether it is worth upgrading to this from the old x10 mini!
How are you finding battery life on the new mini? Is the mini that you got from carphone warehouse unlocked and runs unbranded software? e.g no orange icons etc
Thanks a lot

Posted by s1ddo
This phone is definately unlocked, as it is SIM Free which means it's not proivided by a network but by the phone manufacturer/retailer. In fact all Carpone Warehouse phones are unlocked whether on contract or PAYG as the last phone I bought was unlocked as it was on orange and when the contract ended I put an O2 SIM in it and it worked.

I'm just waiting for it to be sorted out on PAYG as they are advertising it for £149.95 but have no networks signed up yet. This is how they get phones early (i've not seen it in any other high street retailer yet even SIM Free) but obviously have to wait for the networks to sign contracts for a new phone (only 3 of the big networks have signed up for pay monthly deals at the minute)

Posted by rjs675
thanks s1dd0, I assumed people here had bought it for £149.95 already did not realise it was only available sim-free at the moment.
Good to know carphone warehouses phones are all unlocked also, many thanks

OK yes mine is unbranded unlocked sim free. So far I am finding no bugs and crashes which is good. The Mini is super fast in use and has a lovely bright sharp screen. So far battery life has been good. After only first charge I was away yesterday in a day trip. Time I was away was between 9am to 3am next morning. In that time I took 225 photos, browsed the net for say 20 mins made 2 short calls, used GPS once sent 20 texts and made 2 short videos. Also used Geo Tagging. The battery by 3am this morning was down to 19%. Not bad. Audio quality is good not the best but that could be crap headphones in the box. Signal reception is rock solid compared to when I had the Arc as I had full signal on T Mobile driving through countryside in Norfolk. Call quality is loud and clear. Build is good nice and sturdy except small creak at bottom of battery cover. No lag at all during usage not even after boot up. Screen sunlight viewing is excellent. Has nice new themes and some new apps and some nice little touches to UI. When screen turns off it looks like a tv set going off. And now to the bad point. Camera is average at best. Imo SE cameras are getting worse in quality. Why I don't know. Shame really but judge for yourself in photo thread.

Xperia mini and mini pro doesn't have 2nd mic for noise cancelling right?

Posted by Bonovox
Yes,it has noise suppression in call settings.

Posted by rjs675
Thanks Bonovox, sounds great will go check it out in store soon!

Posted by Bonovox
It is a big step up in terms of specs & performance, feel & looks. Just not a step up in camera department sadly Imho cameras are getting worse since Arc,Neo now Mini's. Samsung Galaxy S 2 is the one to beat lately in terms of image detail. And still Nokia N8. No doubt the Pro will be the same camera

Here (Netherlands) you can get the Mini Pro for 230-260 euro and the regular Mini for 190-220 euro (depending on the store)
With a contract, it is completely free with a 2-year contract, and I paid 29,95 for the phone with the cheapest 1 year contract (including unlimited internet)

There are a number of youtube videos from different users where you can hear a really annoying noise in the background. It seems some sort of electrical noise... can anyone confirm this issue?

Any feedback from owners on the battery life?
Please state usage to give a guide.
Thanks

Posted by Bonovox
That sound is like static & I had the same on the Mini

Posted by mustafabay
So I should be thankful that Egypt gets late after issues like this are ironed out and don't need to wait for an update.

Posted by Bonovox
I would not worry about it too much its not a massive issue and i am sure you could live with it till its ironed out. I never do as many videos as i take photos anyway.

Still awaiting delivery of my white Pro. Its coming to my work place as there is nobody home.

Posted by Bonovox
Just got my white Pro and its so much better than the Mini. OK,it has much much better overall feel than the Mini & a lovely tactile keyboard, louder better sounding back speaker, solid slide & build, also the screen is right up against the glass unlike the Mini for some reason. But screen is gorgeous too with great outdoor viewing, camera I am not sure if it's me or not but seems a tad better than the Mini. Overall size is just right not too small not too big. Though if put in your shirt pocket it does bulge a little Am actually satisfied with it

Thanks

After the first two days I was a bit worried about the battery life. I went through 3 complete charges in those 24 hours, while with my X10 mini pro, I managed 3-4 days on a single charge.

However, after those initial days (with lots and lots of playing in retrospect) I now manage 3-4 days again. So battery life of my Mini Pro is exactly the same as for my X10 Mini Pro.

This is with 15 minutes calling a day, about half an hour internet, plus some normal other short activities (texting, alarm, checking calender, etc.). I do have 3G off and only turn it on when I use it though.

Posted by Bonovox
I cannot comment on battery life as yet as I only got mine today. But it's a much much better device than the crap Mini.

Ooh cheers for that

Is the screen as disappointing as they make out??

Posted by Bonovox
No it's fine. Who says that?? The screen is a clear & bright as the Mini & brighter than the Neo screen. Here are my pics of my Mini Pro. Do bear in mind most camera shots are hard to get the screen looking it's best. But the screen is good in sunlight(not quite on the same par as Arc)but still good. And colours are saturated.

It's weighty & feels solid I prefer this handset to the Arc,Neo & Mini. But that's just me I like the keyboard. Viewing angles are good too but as I said camera shots I did, I could not reflect this. Oh,I forgot to mention zero lag whatsoever

It's a nice looking handset that is for sure, even though it is a bit too small for my liking. Like the White and chrome combination to it.

im still waiting for o2 to get them in i just have to admire yours

cpw have the mini for 149plus 10quid topup or the pro for 249 plus top up

£149? That's cheap, quite a bit jump for the keyboard though.

Screen is excellent imo. I have the brightness setting at its lowest to maximize battery life, and have no problem reading it. In sunlight I turn the brightness up though. (There is an widget on the phone so you can change this setting in one click)

You cannot see any keypad light in direct sunlight mate Yes,it's true but you don't need keypad light in sunlight As for the keypad backlight it's not the brightest but in the dark it's perfectly usable & can be seen fine. Only thing I do not like is the keypad light goes off too quickly when no keys are pressed. If you think the camera is poor then go see my pics they are ok not the best out there but still very good for most. Overall the handset is great to use, fast solid & so far reliable. I recommend it over the Mini anyday And when Phone Arena say the web browsing is not so good on small screen. What bull shit. I have big hands & I was able to use the older smaller Mini's ok. And the 3 inches on this device is fine I have no issues viewing anything. Just typical reviewers moaning that the screen is not 5 inches I mean duh come on it's not called a Mini phone for nothing

Once you get used to the keyboard, you won't need to see it.

I haven't seen a Mini Pro in the market section. Anybody willing to sell theirs?

Posted by jplacson
@Bonovox, isn't the keypad backlight tied to the light sensor like on the older X10 Mini Pro?

Posted by Bonovox
I think so not sure will have to look again. But I have to say using the new Mini Pro compared to the old one its worth the upgrade for sure.
