I heard from someone that there is a newer software version for the Gd87 which allows 200 SMS to be stored on the phone itself. Does anyone know about this or where it available?

The most recent software version is 21 and it only improves photos taken under low-light conditions.

Im not so worried about the low level light conditions, as i do not take many night photos. But is good to know the latest software version. I heard an A37 is available. Does anyone know how to get their hands on it?

The latest software version i have heard in Europe is A22. A37 is available but only US users.

The A37 will be the software version the GU87 will have. GU87 will be the american brother of the GD87. I called panasonic USA and they told me they most likely will not support the GD87 since it was not targeted to the US market.

The nest step in that case is to put pressure on your service providers to provide a firmware upgrade to A37 or similar. I wrote to Panasonic and this is the responce i got from them...

Updating software is not as simple as you may think.
First, any software version has to be approved and checked for correct
functionality with the networks to which the handsets are resisted. The
approval process can take a long time as we also need to eliminate the
possibility that the new software could be introducing software bugs.
Software updates are not readily available like they are with computer
programs. They are only implemented for existing customer units in extreme
circumstances where a documented problem exists.
Updating software on a handset is not without its risks and quite often the
handset will be reset back to the original factory condition after the
process has been completed. This means that you may loose all data
including all contacts and personalisation setting from your handset.
Customers quite often misunderstand why we have released a new version of
software and feel that they are missing out on some extra feature that may
be available. Quite often we have released the handset to a new network who
have requested some subtle changes that would only become apparent it the
handset is then used on the new network. When used on the original networks
there is no perceived change.
Software updates are time consuming and require the use of specialist
equipment only available to our approved service centre. Updates at
customers request are possible on a chargeable basis through our service
centre.
We hope this clarifies this matter.

If it's true that there will be a US version of this phone, I will be happily waiting for it and hoping that Cingular launches is (1% chance of that happening). I'll find my ways of either upgrading the software or swapping for the US version (if it's to my convenience).

Thank appreciated. Not many people use the English corner in gd87.it as much of it was in Italian. There do not seem to b any specialised british sites though! Shame!
