Well, that isn't a reason.

Internal memory is faster than microsd cards, it gives you a perfomance boost while reading a big amount of data(for example thousands of pictures and videos)and it's better for video recording(the streaming works much better).

On the other hand, not every app supports App2Sd and if you look at the other devices, all of them have much more:

-Desire HD=1.5GB
-Atrix=16GB
-Optimus 2x=8GB
-Optimus 3d=8GB
-SGSII=16GB or 32GB

Even our X10 have more(1GB)

@Wishmaster89: I would like to try that for you, but I think I'm missing the necessary cable - or is there another way to verify?

of course its a reason....

since froyo... android 2.2, you've been able to install apps on external storage.

the speed comparison is not noticable under normal use unless you have some very accurate measuring!

and.. if apps don't support external mem then its time they were updated if they are serious apps. This is the new age!

Around 1:45 in the clip below, the MediaShare app (aka DLNA server) is shown.

Come on, My Class 6 MicroSD is faster than most USB flash drives in the market !!
and if Class 6 is not enough, go for Class 10 !!

I know I know, having more memory is better but speed is not a reason here... let's face it we just need more memory because this can be done !!
just include 8GB of internal memory and remove the bundled 8GB microSD.. just leave the microSD slot here for those who needs more memory... and I think if you did remove the bundled microSD and added 8GB of internal this ( just keep the slot for those who needs more ) I think this will not change the cost that much ( and maybe it will be lower ) and also gain users satisfaction too...

I still have the good old W960i which had 8GB of internal memory... sadly that one didn't have card slot if any one needs more.

Posted by rog
DLNA is still there, via the Media server app.

And no HDMI cable present. But as I mentioned in our post, this might differ from market to market.

Posted by cableguy
yeah different stuff in box in different areas .se uk manager said the arc would be shipped with a 32gb card and hdmi cable will be bundled

Why don't do this is beyond me. The only explaination is that it is cheaper to use an SD card. Don't know how that is possible though..... The lack of on board memory is the only thing making me think twice about the Arc.

I wish it was as good as they made it look in the promo

explain to me why we need so much internal memory?
i have like top 10 apps installed(i would never need more, with alot of apps the phone seems bloated, and if i need something i just download7install in a few sec then uninstal)
every game uses the SD card for saves/other files than the "start file"
the camera saves on SD so does the Camcorder.

my phone tells me that i have 465MB total internal memory and 304MB free
someone said the x10 had 1gb ? not my phone anyways

but my point is i use around 160MB and i am happy so 300MB+ will do just fine in the arc
i have a 16gb class 6 SDcard.

Posted by HYPER-X10
So you wouldn't prefer to have say, 8Gb on board + whatever SD card you install?

Posted by SKIBBE
I guess 8gb is really nice but if i don't need more than a few hundred MB it's overkill? thus making the phone cheaper by adding less internal memory and the choice to buy a bigger SD-card instead.

Xperia x10 has 1GB internal Memory, with Android and SE apps it lets you 465MB avaliable for apps:
http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_xperia_x10-2964.php

I only have 100MB free in my X10 and believe me i don't have thousands of bullshit apps like lightsaber and strange things like that XD.

So, if you have 465MB free with 1GB, think about how much will you have with 320MB...just to let you know, the HTC desire has only 120MB free with 512MB

Posted by SKIBBE
okey, i thought 300 was calculated as FREE when i got it stock installed? then i understand the fuss. but advertising it with 300mb internal memory and with stock apps only like 50mb left the memory seems a much bigger issue

Posted by HYPER-X10
Also, if you have plenty of on board memory you can use the space for media and other files. Which will most likely load faster than any sd card too.

Yeah, that is what i was trying to say, if you have a lot of media files, they will load super fast when you open the 3dgallery, without any delay at all

You didn't get it, you may not need more memory, so you may not even change the microSD and have bigger one... but others may ( or will )...

having more internal memory is just better, you and any other guy that doesn't need more memory will not loose any thing, instead you may have better options too... I'm not saying should add more internal memory this alone will increase the cost and will add too much memory ( 8GB internal + 8GB microSD ), I'm just saying instead of bundling an 8GB microSD card with the phone, just add 8GB of internal memory...
1- A user who don't need 8GB or more will not loose any thing coz he already had that 8GB microSD bundle before...
2- A user who needs more will have the option to buy microSD card and use it to expand the memory of the phone...
3- A user will have the option to share large files ( a video he/she recorded ) by copy it to the microSD and share it with his/her friend and in the same time keeping every single app he have and can use them all ( as all of them in the internal memory )...

I hope next phones will have this concept... just remove the bundled microSD and add 8GB of internal... leave the microSD slot empty...

EXPANSYS has arc for pre-order at 495eur....which i find a very reasonable price....Hope it wont go up!!

+1
For More internal memory. 8gb atleast + a external memory slot too..
so that if we want more capacity we dont have to waste the 8gb card which is included ..

I'm loving the design of this and as I'm stuck using a BB Bold I'm really missing my Desire AND the Android experience... It looks like the SE overlay UI has improved a great deal, both in terms of usability and performance...

First SE I would consider in a long long long time! They've always had design on their side and this looks sweet...

Gotta be the Midnight Blue...

But I will not be surprise if you get to hold in one of the Xperia family in coming months...

Posted by tai020381
Another thing I worry about is that will the phone performance slow down significantly when a bluetooth headset / connection to HDMI has made connection?

Posted by idumbakumar
I experienced slow downs in feature phones and symbian phones but never on a android phones especially on xperias.. so no need to worry...
I would get an arc If its of 3.7" screen. I dont want a screen size more than that. It make very difficult for single handed operations. For ex. Its strain to pull the status bar in one hand. I wait for a phone of compact size.. also expecting a xenon from

No i am seriously not interested in any of the new Xperia range. I am saving my money now anyway for something better to come along. Spending my money on more important stuff. And despite running nothing at all and not even a live wallpaper i have always said this the x10 is laggy. And so are most Android devices i have used from SE to HTC. I imo have found Android more laggy with slow downs at times than some of the latest Nokia phones. That is very true. You may laugh but that is what i have found. Why is it the live wallpapers jerk so much on x10?? Never smooth at all

Posted by kissdog
It looks nice....

Posted by SKIBBE
i wounder why it's live wallapaper at all, drains the battery to fast, i know that is a choice as with wlan/bt/gps but anyway. i used it just a few days. many of them are lousy coded making the phone slow and extremly laggy. i want a smoth experince with the live walpaper bbut then my phone will be usable like 10h if ut's a cool/heavy wallpaper.

i will go for the arc, bcaus of MultiTouch(games) hdmi-output(bringing hd-movies to friends easy), the design, and the joy of having a new mobile.

not many new aspects from the x10, so the smart thing would not to buy it, but it's so stylish!!

Posted by goldenface
I think I'm going to like this phone so much when it's in my hands I'll just have to have it. I was going to go for the XPlay but decided against. Having a a better camera is important and the HDMI out is a good feature, I'm impressed with the technology its packing.

I'm hoping it comes to 3UK network pretty soon after launch.

Nuff said..You're better off with feature phones.

I really hope SE fix the low in-call volume issue on Arc......on my X10, I can hear the other side when in shopping centre or on the street...........

I haven't had any problem using the X10 with one hand, but I use "launcher pro plus" and bring down the notifications by flicking up on the app draw "button". Works REALLY well.

I'm not worried about the 4.2" screen being too big. seem to have made up for the size by making the bottom of the screen lower, rather than making the top further away from your fingers (if you know what I mean )

I just tried the Arc's launcher on my X10 (as well as the picture/video widget) and it's really nice. Does lag a little though, and seing how fast it is now on the Arc, I'm sure launcher pro will absolutely FLY I wish I could get the Arc's App drawer with launcher pro......

Put one of the Arcs wallpapers on my X10 too and it's beautifull

Gotta say that the Arc I've tried is faster than my DHD.

Mizzle,

Was it still fast with live wallpaper??

Can anyone tell me if the Arc uses the same battery as the X10?

I don't know whether to buy the Arc or the N8, What attracts me to the N8 is the Xenon Flash, HDMI Port, Very good video recording and a few other things including the new Symbian update that is due out anytime now it's a big improvement with a portrait qwerty now being put on the phone and a big update to the UI.

If the Arc can take good pictures in very low light condition and the LED Flash actually flashes and has good video recording quality then i will probably get the Arc.

Posted by SKIBBE
northmonkey. LED will never come near a xeon flash. but my own opinion is that you shall not relly on a cellphone camera, a cheap digital compact camera is almost always better than a mobile one.

I know but with the Exmor R Sensor maybe it would make up for the lack of Xenon?

You can download the Arc System dump here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970643

The wallpapers are in there, as well as some apps that work on X10. Let me know if you have trouble finding what you want.

No front facing camera on Arc...! What did SE think of? Google will enable video chat via Talk on Android later on and then a camera would be good to have.
