The design is perfect for landscape-mode (which they have shown in videos) i type my sms 98% of the time in landscape mode, watch movies/youtube in landscape, almost all games are in landscape-mode. I like the focus on landscape.

i dont think people will "drop it like it's hot"

what i don't like is that they revertet the hw-buttons will take some time to readjust

@avmaxfan- I respect your shamelessness and courage to come up and talk shit in these forums after all the crap that u have been feeding us over the past few months.

@Haribolman, im sure have done enough in house testing to ensure the shape of the phone wont be any issue. Ive seen you mention it a couple times now, why not just wait until you hold one and judge for yourself, not from a video. And im fairly sure I have read comments online which praise the ergonomics

Yes, I have mentioned it a few times to wake people up! I love my X10 and how comfortable it is to hold. went to great lengths in many videos to explain that they designed the rear of the X10 to fit the hand perfectly. It's plainly obvious the reverse curve of the Arc is not natural, nor easy to hold. You only have to look at the awkward way most people are balancing the phone between the tips of their fingers and the sides of the phone.

It would be refreshing for to explain just how they go from designing a beautiful, easy to hold phone like the X10, to a clumsy phone with a shape that contradicts their previous design revolution! Not to mention the screen being too small for the body with too much plastic above it. But hey, other than that, the Arc looks great!!

With 3rd party apps yes.

P.S. If I will consider Android in the next few weeks, it will be Arc or LG Optimus 2x.

Posted by dibdin
For me its between the Arc and the LG Optimus black.

Posted by HxH
ArC could win for it design-wise but LG elite screen is awesome Kudos to them because my eyes can't move away from super screen ever see.

Did you know that LG actually makes the Retina display for iphone 4??

Lol, nice. I am totally surprised by this maker.
They are the big surprise of last years I'd say.

Posted by mriley
Yep, they make IPS displays

Posted by roanmy
I wish SE had put a 540x960 pixels display in the Arc. =/

+1

The display is really important on phones now, I'm not too keen on the Arc, high cost for a plastic build covered in fingerprints + awkward shape

Posted by Bonovox
Plus it is apparently very light which I hate really light mobiles makes them feel cheap & not like something expensive

Agree, they are up against some pretty heavy competitors

I keep hearing about the Arc using different frequencies and im a bit confused.

Is it that people want HSPA+ and disappointed is what is causing this confusion for me?

Also does the Arc support the same frequencies as the x10i? And will the international version of Arc work on T mobile USA (both call + 3g)?

Thanks

Check the first post

Posted by Naar
The 1st post has 4 sets of frequencies which doesn't really answer my question.

As far as I know there is no i and a versions of Arc announced, although the different set of frequencies seems to suggest that.

Also isn't T mobile using 1700 and 2100 and Arc only has 1700. So will it work fine?

So instead of asking me to read the 1st post, which I did, can you just answer my question please?

I knew that Apple use LG screen tech, but Opt Black is way upgrade from Apple's Retina only matter I'm not sure about DPI in Black as it maybe shouldn't catch up on Retina. See it yourself but someone wrote earlier Black is very light-weight with cheap plastic I'm agreed it only 109 grams

www.gsmarena.com/leaked_slide[....]2_and_wildfire_2-news-2313.php

so the arc has competition. Must admit, i'm really tempted

Posted by masseur
I guess there will always be competition (well except for the iPhone ), but I'm guessing the arc will get the jump on these as these are only leaks/rumours etc and so we don't know when they will be announced or actually available

mind you, HTC sense is what usually wins it for me so as much as I like the arc, and will probably get one, I could see myself changing to HTC again a little later

What about Arc with Launcher Pro Plus? Wouldn't that be the best of both worlds for you? I'm using LPP on my X10 and love it.

Does Sense provide anything that LPP doesn't?

I'm pretty much certain I'm getting an Arc. I only keep phones for 12 moths at most and by then the dual core scene will be more matured and there will be a better variety of devices.

None of the dual core devices announced so far really grab me.

An Arc with dual core, 1GB ram, QHD screen and 16+ GB storage would be my ultimate phone right now.
Actually, take 5mm off the top of the phone while we're at it.

tmobile uses 1700 and 2100. One for upload and one for download you always need both. Arc only has 2100
http://www.sonyericsson.com/c[....]tfolio/specification/xperiaarc
So unless the final version includes 1700 you will not be able to use 3G/4G on tmobile
I am on tmobile and thinking maybe buy the phone and switching to ATT who uses 850/1900.

Thanks for the info. I was confused when I 1st read it. Especially since the 1st announcement for Arc was in America.

Is it possible that SE messed up the numbers? Why have 1 without the other?

Posted by northmonkey
Can anyone clarify for certain that the LED on this actually flashes? Or is it a photo light like the X10?

Thanks.

Does any LED flash actually 'flash' ? I thought that was only xenon...

The flash has 4 settings: Auto, Off, Fill Flash or Red Eye Reduction

The 2100 band is paired with 1900 in Brazil for example Throughout the world there is usage of various combinations of 800/900/1800/1900/2100 for up and download. So why the 2100 band is used many times in other countries, the 1700 band is (only very limited used as you can see in operating band IV here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands ) . So mfg I guess don't pay attention to that and don't worry about those "few" users. which bugs me as well. I'll have to talk to my bud at tmobile what the plans are for the future of that entire thingy.

Cheers

All LED flash do 'flash' afaik (from my experience with P990, W902, W995). Those that don't are called photo light like X10.

I wish they'd bring out a dock similar to the one they have released for the Xperia Play.

Posted by Ricke77
No dock I'm afraid. The USB-connector is on the wrong side.

Posted by Arne Anka
What do you mean with wrong side ?

Posted by SKIBBE
I thought the USB was on the "right" side now? meaning not on top next to the power button, now it can be in landcape mode in a DOCK-station. if you mean the picture will be "upside-down" the image can flip just like in the youtube app (2.2 froyo, anyways and i guess every other video player)

Posted by dancingfate
Xperia Arc for Indonesia is already passed the test on Dirjen Postel (Indonesia's Telecommunication Certification).

Posted by Ricke77
Every other docks that SE has produced features Landscape mode when you flip it to the left. In this case it would be to the right wish would place the camera- and volumebuttons hidden. But, I might be wrong. Lets hope Im wrong!!

Posted by Xajel
The only other phone that I think may have a dock is the Neo, as the all ports located on top, so having it in landscape with all ports on one side is possible... at least in theory...

I really hoped arc and neo have docks, but it seems arc is very hard to have a dock and if yes then it will be un practicle...

in Neo if they made a dock with side ports it will have better functionality than Play's dock duo to having all ports including the HDMI, Play's dock does not have a HDMI cable, you have to connect it seperatley...

I hope made a dock for Neo... and thinks again when placing ports on any device, specially high-end ( like arc ) and entry high-end ( like Neo, Pro )

yeah would be a real design miss if they don't make docks out of that reason. let's hope they have something nice coming for us

Posted by goldenface
Yeah, me too. It would be silly not to be able to take advantage of the nice screen by using it as an alarm clock in charging cradle on your bedside table.

i bought "Bedside (night clock)" a few months back but i dont have it installed anymore (no dock for the x10i makes it kinda useless)

Sony Ericsson was behind in terms of the technology they packed in their phones for a long time since P990 came out with impressive hardware and software but was crippled due to lack of RAM. After that, they were trailing far behind from other manufacturers where they were in their own world thinking that shake control is the next big thing. Then Rachael came along after a 4 year-vacuum, what a breath of fresh air and for once they seemed to be in the league with all the big boys again- until they screwed up in the software support with slow updates, too much meddling with android coding and barring any form of multitouch. Now that they seem to have the software bit covered in Gingerbread, they now trail behind again with single core CPU, mid range amount of RAM and minute hard disk space packed in the Arc. Frankly, I couldn't care less about the specs as long as it runs smooth as butter to quote GSMArena. Unfortunately the people they are trying to woo back into using their product do. Mobile vendors will not relate to the Arc as 'powerful' which many of the high end android users demand today with all sorts of benchmarking app at our disposal and that is SE's loss yet again. I'm afraid they're streak of screw ups have not been broken but people like me (a minority) will end up getting the Arc anyway mainly because of the camera and multimedia display. What a shame

Posted by KU
The arc has a clear black display that's why it is more expensive than the neo and maybe it has a front facing camera too.

@mode, valid points...but the arc has another big advantage...it does not look like every other htc/motorola/lg/whatever android slab

Nice info, anyway we should keep in mind that the N8 screen has a really low resolution, much lower than the x10.

In my opinion, that's the ARC's selling point, it can't fight with hardware but it has a great design, the price compared with the samsung galaxy SII will be the thing that will decide the fight

Posted by goldenface
There are few phones of late that have had design talked about as a major +.

The design of Xperia Arc gives it plenty of 'Wow Factor' which will make it hard to ignore when displayed instore next to other, probably, more powerful devices.

Too many smartphones look so bland, copycat and lookalike these days its hard to tell one from the other.

Xperia handsets to receive Android 2.4 first.

(posted by back2you in the rumours thread)

Posted by unknown_x
So this wasn't a missconfiguration... :

Let's see if ENGADGET, GSMArena, mobile-review, etc confirm this, i think that with the design and a good price, this statement can be one of the few weapons against the samsung galaxy SII
