Sorry, I'm not experienced with the Mac client. Have you tried the sonymobile.com support pages? or even their forums?

I did but doesn't seem to work. I don't know what's going wrong.

If you can get to a Windows PC I can help

Have you got the settings correct in the phone to connect as MTP? Is it just the that the Mac client won't find your phone?

Are ou even supposed to connect in MTP mode?
(I rarely use the clients anymore I flash from flashtool or fastboot because I unlocked my bootloader)

Posted by Indiandawg
While updating to new firmware it does ask to go on MTP mode. I'm going to try to find the driver and check. Will also try on Windows and let you know

Thanks

After 2 weeks with 4.0.4 on my Arc I can actually say that I got worse battery time. A hand full of spontaneous re-starts and software freezings too. On the positive side there is less lagging.

Went on holiday on June 6, came home yesterday. My SI 1246-9197 on my LT15 is STILL not listed as rolled out. It's July 1st at the weekend and I am still on 2.3.4. Unfrigginbelievable.

No wonder Sony is on 3% market share and are becoming a total joke.

Can't wait for the new Nexus quadcore so I can forget about all this endless bullshit.

@aka Dus
Mine wasn't listed but when I connected it to my laptop there was an update available. Try that...

Thanks mate, I will actually. Didn't have time yest, first day back and all that. But I opened SEUS and it updated and then started shutting down all the time due to "unexpected error" just when it was about to load the home screen. If it's not one thing it's another!

@mange69: Press power + volume down simultaneously for about 2-3 seconds and thats it.

I've tried this on my Arc and it doesn't seem to work. Anyone have any ideas why?

Ignore me - just got it working.

I just can't believe this...is it me only or is ICS 4.04 still not available for some arc (Lt15i)s.. .
Ever since the start of 2012 i have been looking forward to the ICS update for my lovely arc. I have been searching the net...looking through all the reviews...read the Sony blog for alpha roms reviews...was pretty exited!!! .
But after updating an Arc S(Lt18i) of my friends i was kinda dissapointed. Even touhg the featuure was great but it was preety slow. Even with 4.0.4 the arc S was slow......from the first update to 4.0.4 i decided that i will not update my Arc(Lt15i). Today out of curiosity i checked for the update t is still not available. Not that i want to update but why exactly is it not available till now???? This is seriously disappointing.........

still no ICS update for my Arc (1247-0232) as well,,,,,,,,,,,,,has SE forgot about it? What's going on?

Hi I'm needing a little help please.

I was having the problem with my arc saying the memory was full in error which seems to be a common problem resolved by flashing the phone. Hoped ics update might fix it to save me a job but as my si is 1247-0232 I'm still waiting (that's another moan!).

I flashed my arc and reinstalled my back ups. and everything is fine except that I have one contact (my best friend Trish) that for some reason is not recognised correctly. When I receive a text from her the text is shown as coming from both Trish and my mum. If I reply to Trish my text goes to mum as well. The only way I can text trish is to start a new conversation each time rather than a simple reply. Texts from my mum are normal (well normal is subjective with my mum but you get my drift)

I don't have any groups on my phone though I have often text mum and Trish the same message. I have deleted both contacts and reinstalled them. Deleted them again and added them manually. When they were deleted it would do the same thing just without recognising who the numbers belong to.

I use Handcent but I have deleted that and tried just using the stock messager and it made no difference. I suspect I will need to reflash the phone but it's a bit of a pain and if anyone can help to save me the hassle I'd be very grateful.

Thank you

I woundnt bother putting ICS on an Arc or Arc S.

You will end up with a phone thats slow that also suffers from software freezes & also software crashes.

Arc & Arc S just aint powerful enough or have enough memory to run ICS correctly, stick with Gingerbread.

Just rolled my Arc S back to Gingerbread & its wonderful, a phones thats fast again & doesnt repeatedly lock up or crash anymore

Friend of mine with a Arc suffered the same issues on ICS & also rolled back to Gingerbread.

Ive no idea why Sony even bothered to release ICS for the Arc / Arc S as its obvious that didnt really test it much

ICS looks nice but the Arc / Arc S just isnt up to running it.

Has anyone got a link for UK gingerbread for LT15 so I can downgrade ICS? Main issue for me is battery time.

New ICS firmware for 2011 range imminent?

Yeah, hope this update will fix all the existing issues with this current version of ICS 4.0.4 and deal with all sorts of lag throughout the UI. Pls SONY, don't disapiont again.

The image below may be considered disturbing so please view with caution.

A friend of mine had dropped her arc from a few floors above a concrete ground and this is the end result.
Now, luckily it's fixed with a new display and it's just as good as the new one.

Randomuser, what do you say now about the mineral glasses from SONY?

Posted by djin
@king-james,

it fell from few floors! Something like that is bound to happen..

Posted by annafee
Yup...that's bound to happen when it falls from this height........

Posted by goldenface
But the rest of the phone worked OK? That's amazing!

Posted by fjcarlsson
I got the latest update of the firmware. Had it for a few weeks now and have had no issues since. No freezes or restarts.
Shame O2 is not endorsing it for their arc users. Ah well, there's always the flashtool.

Posted by king-james
I'm sure with dragontail-glass it would survive this fall.

My Xperia Arc S is slow and sluggish. If I play any game, the phone heats up like really hot. It takes lot of time to open call dailer or Internet browser. Any idea what's going wrong?

RAM 271MB used / 69MB free.

I went through XDA and other sites. Most of them talked about running custom ROMS which I don't want.

Some talked about swapper app and overlocking the CPU.

What do I do?

You use GB or ICS?

Posted by Indiandawg
ICS 4.0.4

Posted by Vipera ammodytes
Thats is the reason, ICS is more memory "hungry" then GB, its better to go again to GB, you dont loose anything comparated to ICS if you ask me, and again you will have speedy and fluid OS.

GB is much better for gaming on 2011 phones then ICS

Yeah I read that. But there has to be some way to make it stable. I'm not a big fan of playing games but it's been long I have played any game lol. Even if I try angry birds, it heats up. But my main problem is the performance. The dailer and the sluggish speed is my main concern.

Posted by Vipera ammodytes
I think there is no way to increase stock ICS rom, maybe some custom works better.

its better to downgrade to GB, you dont loose any functionality.

To downgrade I need to root right?

Posted by Vipera ammodytes
no you just need Flashtool and GB firmware

follow this tutorial to the step 2(rooting) and you will be again on GB, its very easy

download flashtool from here http://androxyde.github.com/ firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62 you can find in xda thread just download it from mediafire

Thank you so much. I'm gonna downgrade cause this is really annoying.

One more thing. Arc S has 1GB internal memory right? So how come my phone shows only 420mb?

Posted by Vipera ammodytes
No problem man, if you have more question feel free to ask.

well, other half is for system ROM

if you dont want problems with internal memory you can install Link2SD app, its life saver on phones with low internal memory, but for this you need root.

I suggest you try JJ's hybrid rom and new Adreno libs. Or if you really want JellyBean, go for AOKP.

JJ Hybrid ROM seems to be very popular @ XDA.

AKOP looks good but there are still few lags to be corrected.

Have you heard of v6 Supercharger? does it really make phone fly?

still haven't got the official ice cream sandwich update for my wife's Arc...........why so slow??

Posted by arcmhyke
I just like to share

After a year and 5 months, a small crack already appeared on my misty silver Xperia arc, on the left side above the back button unlike those cracks reported by most users have midnight blue, whose cracks appears on the proximity sensors in just 4-6months of use

also i have removed the pre-applied shatter proof sheet, because it has a lot of scratches already, at first the screen is so sticky, finger print magnet, I have cleaned the screen with some alcohol, and a couple of days the screen is now better than before, when i removed shatter proof sheet, the screen sensitivity increased, a bit more brightness, and less finger print magnet.

When i updated my Xperia arc to ICS with 4.0.4 1st build released from Sony, it was very disappointing, it is very slow, lags a lot, lot of apps and games wont work well, but when the release an update to 4.0.4, i was amazed, they have fixed most of the problems of ICS, it's on par with 2.3.4 in terms of Speed and Stability, I hope they will release another update that will mostly fix all the remaining bugs, and optimize ICS a lot more, because we are not going to get 4.1 officially, Sony latest ICS for 2011 is Good enough for everyday use.

Still enjoying my Xperia arc, it can handle most latest apps and games available now
