No, you can't update on MAC. OTA only works for certain updates, but not all.

Posted by justus333
So as a Mac User it is impossible for me to ever update the Arc??? What a bummer. They force me back to the iPhone, which I actually don't want......

Posted by Arne Anka
I guess there are not too many users only using MAC to justify an update application for MAC.

Posted by SKIBBE
@justus333, you must have a friend with a real computer that you can use to update your Arc?

Posted by justus333
either I have very few friends or I am very selective as they are all Mac users!
But next time I make friends IŽll make it prerequisite that they bring a PC into the friendship, like a wedding dowry

How long will we have to wait for 3.2.4 ? Battery drain is doingmy head in. Just got back from holiday and found that even starting the day with a full battery if I took photos during the day my arc was dead by early PM. We only have photos of our mornings

Try using a mugen power battery... Bought a 3600 mah battery for my Xperia X10 from mugen power... Has made my battery life much more comfortable...

Does anyone know when 2.3.4 will be available in UK (via SEUS), my friend is jelous of my Arc S.

For some strange reason i cannot flash it via flashtool because it aborts while trying to flash system.sin and says i need to turn on usb debugging etc.

i re-imaged the computer in case of driver corruption but still not letting me flash. The only way flahh the phone is via SEUS?!

I have used flashtool on his phone before to give him the current 4.0.A.2.368 firmware, so cannot understand why i cannot flash again.

Posted by Ricky D
@rmk152 Not trying to aggravate by stating the obvious but are you sure you turned USB dubugging on? If you're certain, then try redownloading the FW, perhaps your system.sin is corrupted somehow. Also check the source of the files, make sure you're getting the right ones and that others have success with them. All else failing try a forced reflash with SEUS (if your bootloader is still locked) then try flashtool again; as it would eliminate the possibility of a small corruption on your device.

Does he defiantly have 2.3.3? It should be there for him if he does, where do you live? Could be a regional variation?

Recently my arc has been running pretty slow, like scrolling through the home screens and viewing photos they are blurred and take ages to 'focus' so it kind of annoying when looking at photos. Also occasionally when coming out of apps, the icons on the homescreen will just be squares and have to reload. I have advanced task killer installed and use it, which I think works to a degree anyone help me speed it up? Running official 2.3.3

Ya very sure he has 2.3.3 (India region)....
Ya I guess its due to some region issue ..
How to know what region the phone is made for?
I think his phone is not indian region maybe other country's phone ..

Posted by Bonovox
It should say on side of box like for instance a UK one says EN on side.

Posted by augie7107
My Arc is on 2.3.3 Docomo firmware and there is no theme option either.

You need a 4.X release.

Don't know why SE are dragging their heels with 2.3.4 release in many countries.

Urgh, I know it's like give us an exact date please, instead of teasing us with these cool features and then part realising it in some countries. Apple told their users the date of iOS 5, how hard can it be?

I quite agree....I have been checking my phone up to six times a day for the update with no luck yet. I thought the UK may have been of the first countties to have received the latest update.

He should have Build 4.0.A.2. Have him upgrade his phone. the Firmware is still 2.3.3, but the build will be upgraded to 4.0.A. This build has the Themes option. The firmware is out for India region Arc's.

In short very hard. Apple control the date of their releases because they control the the OS and the handsets. Android is run by Google and SE customise the FWs for networks who then in turn approve the firmwares for release. The chain has at least 3 extra stages and sets of people in it who all work independently and so different regions and networks get updated at different dates. SE can't give an exact release date because they can't guarantee the networks will approve the FW in time. Apple don't offer networks customisation and aren't bothered about regional customisation (search iPhone 4S is a global phone).

The upside is that with Ice Cream Sandwich Google is taking control of FW updates and release schedules like Windows Phone and iOS control and release their updates. There will be clearly outlined update timelines of handsets released with ICS or later and those customers can expect to receive updates/support for their handset within that timeline (suggested as 2 years).

This will mean no more waiting for SE, everyone will get their update at the same time and distributed in the same manner. I guess SE will have to pass their UI customisation (for things like the 3D camera, facebook inside, timescape etc) to Google so it is distributed with the update and that regional customisations will become a thing of the past, but that's my musing.

Y u people looking only on the official update?? Just download the firmware file and flash it straight away by flash tool.. Go to xda developers and find the links for the firmwares and the flash tool.. Dont waste ur time on checking update service..

I would scre..w this advanced task killer, which makes as much good as bad for devices performance.
Rather look how much memory is left for operation, close unneeded apps like Facebook cr..p
which after launch eats 40MB of RAM.

Camera shootout: iPhone 4S versus Xperia arc

In all camera samples below, the iPhone 4S is on the left and the Xperia arc is on the right.

Just got notification for update now on SEPC for my XPERIA Arc.

I have 4.0.A.2.368, it said that it would update to 4.0.2.A.0.42, it's downloading the update as I'm writing, will play a bit with it and post! Finally, been waiting for that for almost a month, since I knew 2.3.4 is available!

anyone know if this supports HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100 or is it only HSDPA 900/2100?

Would be great if 1900 was supported...

so, anyone??

GSMArena say:

HSDPA 900 / 2100 - LT15i
HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 / 800 - LT15a

Below is what my service menu tells me. (LT15i)

Posted by >500
figured that may be the case

i want to pick up the arc s, and im moving to canada for a yr or 2. would have been good if had left 1900 support on the 'i' version since the hardware supports it!

i understand the lt18a supports this, but its not out yet! And in prague i can pick up the arc s for 280gbp (after the VAT refund of course)

Posted by Ricky D
LT15i hardware supports 1900??

Why would they leave it out if it did?

I wonder if a FW (possibly kernel) switch will fix that up.

Either way, I'm leaving Arc S as it's not much over my Arc. I will probably buy whatever they have lined up for early next year though, providing it's dual-core and is sexy as sin.

Posted by >500
I thought it supported 1900?? O well...

I have a German version bought from Netonnet. I didn't know it when I bought it and now they have written on the website that it will not be possible to upgrade it to 2.3.4. I will return the phone and cancle the buy since they didn't tell me the conditions.

Posted by augie7107
Just use Wotan Server (now free) or flash tool and update your devices.

I have run LT15a, LT15i and SO-01C firmwares on my phone in the US and everything works perfectly.

Waiting for SE to roll out an update is exasperating.

You can upgrade dude. Just takes a couple minutes. I don't mind talking you through it if you want.

It's slightly better than 2.3.3

Posted by bronxdude
guys, since some of you are already using 2.4, may I ask how do you reorder the playlist? thanks

Posted by Ricky D
@bronxdude start playing the playlist you wish to play with, press the playlist icon in the bottom right of the screen (the screen with the album art and player controls and infinite button) and drag and drop using the spotted touch area to the rght of each song in the playlist

I finally got 2.3.4 and thought it would solve my problem, but it didn't. A few times a day my Arc (starting after the latest 2.3.3) becomes really slow updating the widgets and apps on my homescreen. When this happens and I open the app menu I get 12 app screens with some empty places instead of my normal 6 screens filled to the max with apps. If I choose to sort the apps in alfabetical order (which I normally have) instead of the own order (which is not my order at alla). The app menu becomes normal again. Does anyone else have this problem?
