The new weather widget is cool but I wish they had made it horizontal as opposed to vertical, would have made it easier to place as a widget. Would have been good to link it into an app rather than going to the website when wanting more forecast data.

Yes! I've made this point to friends with the SG2 and they're like shut up it's super AMOLED, but the putting the two side by side whites are like a very pale yellow/greenie hue. Nasty.

I love the arc's screen it is so crisp and sharp, and it is a reality display, showing REAL colours true to how you'd see them in life, the S-AMOLED plus looks quite nice but its unnatural and urgh. Yeah the viewing angles aren't the best, but I only use the phone looking directly at it... who doesn't?

It's good but I can't find how to manually update it.

@bono exactly, it's all about vivid colors ,that's the point of lcd screens anyway .

Still no update for me! Tell me I'm not alone...

I agree completely, the Arc really holds it own when it comes to viewing the screen on a bright sunny day. I had a Galaxy S2 for all of a week at the same time as having my Arc. For me the Arc out performed the S2 when it came to sunlight legibility. In response to the black levels with AMOLED, I had a HTC Desire with the AMOLED screen, and even though it produced deep blacks that were impressive, compared to the Arc, I soon forgot about that once owning an Arc. I am really fussy when it comes to screens on mobile phones, but I have been in awe with the Arc's display.

Sry for the double post.
I had the gs2 for the last 2 days too ,impressive device but boring design ,more people were asking me about the arc more than the gs2 and actually I prefer the arc. It' like the device has a personality.

Definitely not alone, been waiting in Australia for a while now.

See my post in the SGS2 thread, I had it for a week and then returned to the Arc. Aside from the minor issues I had with the phone (keyboard, battery, etc) the main one I had was the design and ergonomics of the phone. Firstly, the design and construction was not on par was a £500 phone, very cheap plastics (actually for the grief the Arc get's I thought the design was better on the Arc) and secondly the phone IMO was too large to comfortably hold esp using one handed to type.

I honestly think 4.2 is the ideal size for a screen, you go any bigger and then you have to make the phone bigger and people don't want to heft brick or mini tablet sized phones around.

I just love the Latest Firmware, It's so Zippy and Stable.

the only thing that i don't like is the battery life got worse than before, maybe just a little.

I read that if you turn animations to semi batt life gets better
but cannot confirm, I still wait for this FW!!

Members on XDA are reporting that the battery drain issue on the newest firmware is down to Automatic network searching consuming power. Go into Wireless Networks, go to Mobile Networks, Network Operators and set this an manual as opposed to Auto.

I've done this and it appears at the moment to increase my idle battery performance.

Would you say it's only a minimal improvement??

I compared arc with c905 in photo quality
Arc handles low light better i gives brighter photos without flash when compared to darker c905 photos.
But c905 kicks the ass and goes miles away in terms of details. C905 manages to pull plenty of deatails against arc.. Ill show comparison shots soon. I really disappointed and looking for a better cybershot phone in android...

Posted by danman7_200
the sensor in the arc is smaller than on the c905 so picture quality will be worse I'm afraid. I find the photos that the Arc produces are more than acceptable in good lightning conditions but there is way too much edge sharpening and compression going on in my opionon.

On a side note I can now use my PC bluetooth keyboard with my phone! APP is called BlueKeyboard JP. Fantastic to sit on the couch and browse the web, play videos from the phone. The best video player I have found is Diceplayer. This is the only media player app on the market I could find that takes full advtantage of Arc's hardware acceleration. Hard acceleration means high quality videos and very long battery life! Shame about the chipset limit of h264 high@3.1 as most HD content downloaded from the web these days is high @4.1 or 5.1

Posted by rickster2kuk
The Arc's camera is not that bad! It still produces nice photos just not the best photos of a camera phone - that accolade current goes to the SGS2.

Just today compared SGSII - Arc displays.
SGSII has more crisp colours but looks fake and pixelated. The only advantage is blacks....

Posted by adsada
just tried the app "friends music and videos", which I haven't used since the update but when opening it now crashes straight away, anyone else have this issue?

After using the SGS2 I actually prefer the display on the Arc - better resolution and it doesn't look awful when on low power mode.

Is it just me or other facing this problem ?

I'm using the default SE Home Launcher, and I tried to use Go Launcher but I just went back coz I didn't have a time to re-arrange all the widgets again.. and now I feel lazy to do the move...

any way, I'm facing a problem regarding the menu ( app's menu ), I use the custom sorting to customize it as I want, I like to keep the stuff I don't use in the last page and games/fun/time wasting stuff in the page just before that, with every thing else in the first pages to have it quick and fast...

the problem is every time I restart the phone all customization are gone, and I see 2 - 3 new pages with only 2 or 3 apps per page and all my customization is gone...

the problem is that this is happening every time I do a restart !!

Posted by dibdin
Do you have the latest firmware??

Posted by Xajel
Nope the one before it... I didn't update yet as I want to keep the root, and there's no OTA yet for Generic firmware...

Posted by idumbakumar

see those above images first is GSII second is ARC
i feel ARC performs well in low light...

In this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?[....]1Po6N0&feature=player_embedded

she uses a stereo microphone plugged into the usb port of the phone! I wonder if you can buy this

FINALLY! I'm updated
4.0.A.2.368...

Posted by rickster2kuk
I hope the new firmware sorts out the re-boot issues I have with my Arc. The thing reboots at least once in a battery discharge.

Posted by Ricky D
The new FW hasn't random booted once for me and I've had it on for a few weeks now.

Posted by Xajel
I didn't update yet but I didn't had any single reboot !!

After having a detailed comparison of the photos taken from my old X10 vs the Arc, the X10 definitely takes better photos, yes the X10 is a little soft towards the edges, but detail is better and colours a more natural. The X10 also seems to handle exposure better.

Posted by Ricky D
I completely agree, X10 takes better pics, but you have to wait half an hour for the camera to start up and 20 mins between each shot. SE's cameras peaked at the C905 and have been on the steady decline since, but arc's shots are still acceptable for a camera phone and it has a very quick response.

Saying all that, I'm paying a little less attention since I got a Nikon DSLR, my phone used to be for taking some shots for work purposes and it was just below acceptable, but now I use it for facebook photos of nights out an to prove to the wife I was with guys only all night, for which arc is good enough.

My battery drains very fast after the update. Big difference.

Posted by SKIBBE
Same here when i first got my arc it was like 0.5-1% standby/h now 4%+

Posted by dibdin
Here's hoping the next software upgrade will resolve this problem.

Posted by alibond82
I started experiencing battery issues after a week from the update. However, I travel a lot and I put the phone on plane mode, and the battery usage during plane mode is almost negligible, I read here that XDA Dev forums ppl are suggesting to use manual network search instead of automatic, and also I"m traveling tomorrow, so I'll be able to compare usage when plane mode on and off. As now, there is no comparison, battery is drained too quickly. I just set my phone to manual, and I'll write a feedback here about it!

Also, I only experienced one reboot from with the new firmware, and was after a very long 58 min call using bluetooth in my car. I had another 1hour long phone call yesterday and it didn't reboot.

Posted by BigBaz
I've been trying to get the new firmware but everytime I get an error message, comes up saying the SE server is overloaded is there anyplace else i can get it ?

Posted by Ricky D
@BigBaz are you trying over the air or via PC companion or via SEUS?

Posted by Xajel
The 2.3.4 update is already available now ( World Generic ) I'm just concerned about loosing the root

Posted by adsada
Ahh! Can't wait for this update, wondering after getting the update would something like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mic[....]aCables_JN&hash=item2a142e3e87

would work like the LiveDock, so you can plug stuff into it like keyboards and mice to control the phone?

Woho!

Thats great!! Just have to sweat it out now till I get the update.

updated mine yesterday...everything works fine as expected...
feeling smoother than before. all the announced features available. Screen off animations removed but there's an other animation, though not good as CRT animation. will test and report back..
if anyone want to upgrade just follow xda forum.

Posted by Ricky D
New bits that I noticed in 10 minutes of playing:

New animations are ok, it fades from top and bottom instead of the CRT style of squashing then squeezing. The animations are for on and off too. There a nice little animation when opening an app too.

I couldn't get the 2D panorama to work it keeps telling me I'm sweeping too fast or too slow. 3D worked but not got a 3D TV to view it..

New setup wizard is much nicer than the old one because it works.

Swipe input is pretty cool but I'm faster with the keyboard I'm used to so I don't use it.

@adsada that should work, I have a very similar connector (only it's 4cm end to end) not tested it though. I'm not certain this current FW does USB-otg. I've tested just now and it doesn't want to recognise my input devices or storage devices, so maybe you do need livedock for USB-otg.

but if you livedock its not usb-otg (on the go - for people who dont know)

Posted by adsada
I can't understand though, surely they both do the same thing? how much different can the Livedock be wired to make it work when USB stuff is plugged in but the OTG not?

Another thought I had, I didn't really mind about the new arc s because the improvements are minimal, and it will only lead to the device being more popular. But I do worry that SE may sneakily make some things slower on the old arc, so boost the difference between devices. Or if they found a way to make e.g. the camera start faster they wouldn't add this in future updates because then they would want the difference in speed to remain?

Posted by Ricky D
@DarkKrypt Forgive me, but USB-otg is when USB child devices can also act as host devices is it not?

LiveDock does this for sure, but I'm not sure if it's enabled by the current FW (in which case the connector I have and adsada's cable should both work, mine doesn't) or if it's enabled by the LiveDock's connectivity or a combination of both.

I certainly can't get my connector to work with peripheral input or storage devices.
