@Skibbe:
Tnx.
I have tried SEUS, PC Comp and OTA, but no update for me. I bought my phone from Netonnet.se and suspect that they have imported their Arcs from Germany. How can I see if it differs from the one for the Swedish market? I'm on version 3.0.1.A.0.146. What is the Kernel version?

The update is still not available for many countries and devices.

I'm so happy! I just download dice player from the market and tried a few MKV's and they played flawlessy and smooth! Connected to my HDMI on my tv looks beautiful. Now all I need is the optimised flash performance which is coming soon I'm told and this is a beast of a phone. I've not tested 1080p yet but i imagine it might be a bit too much but 720p works fine

From my first few hours playing with the new FW (4.0.A.2.368) I can't comment on battery but I do like the effect on the pinch to widget overview in the new launcher; the widgets seem to float and move if you knock or shake the phone. I like the lock screen animation too. The setup guide has had a make-over. Other changes are very minor. I had a weird problem before where APNs weren't showing in the settings so if I wanted to change my APN I had to create a new one, this problem seems to still be there, my APN list is empty but I'm connected to the internet with no problems.
Just a question, I've been off the forum for a few weeks, when was this update released?

I've had troubles in the past with the phones wifi but changing the wireless channel on the router and changing mode from n to g or vice versa helps. Try changing those.

Arc with 2.4 spotted..
Posted by Tsepz_GP
That was apparently an error by the SE devs in those Arcs, they are running 2.3.2 in that image as that is from January this year, the next version of Android (Ice Cream Sandwich) is 4.x as it will combine elements of Honeycomb 3.2 and Gingerbread 2.3.5.
Posted by goldenface
Yeah, I posted without checking the day. The guys from that blog are uploading content to google+ which I'm following so strike that last post.

If the Arc gets 2.4 does that mean the rest of the new Xperia line up gets it including my Mini Pro??
Posted by goldenface
Hard to say at this stage but I'd be really surprised if they didn't upgrade the new mini's OS after it had only just been launched.

Lets hope then!!

Overall I am quite pleased with the update. I like the CRT-off animation, new look calendar, new weather widget and some new apps that came with the update.
So X10 with 2.3.3 had CRT-off before Arc? Wow, I wonder what other differences they have.

Quick alarm tone question...
Since updating my arc to the new software, my really loud 'iphone style' alarm tone is no longer there, it came with the original software...
Can anyone tell me the name of it, who has not yet upraded software, so I can search online and download it.
Or send me a copy?
Many Thanks,

Do you remember the exact file name or at least something similar ?

I updated to the new 4.0.A.2.368 firmware (global version). I have the Rogers unit, it seems smoother, no issues so far but I had to turn full animation to semi as I was noticing battery life has gotten a bit more power hungry. Will continue to monitor it. The experience seems so far so good.

Bought mine @komplett.se after the update i have 4.0.A.2.368

Any reason why the ARC cannot run the KIA Optima AR Augmented reality app?

Today...had the first crack
Left side near the bottom just in line with the top of the back key (Misty Silver)
Not really sure I want to upgrade to 4.0.A.2.368 PC Companion is telling me to upgrade, but from what I've been reading here, not sure it's really worth it, especially with the battery issue. I'm proud of the amazing 18+ hrs I get, wouldn't let this down.
Any new apps or features? I've read quickly here, all I could read is something with the icons and crt off thing and a new calendar. Anything else?

So after a full charge and turning animation to semi, I had it on for about 11h 28 min, my batter indicator says 83% still, not bad at all.

Looks promising.

have you seen this
xperia ray
in this pic
the xperia ray battery is much smaller than the xperia arc while keeping the same 1500mah capacity, why don't SE release a higher capacity battery for the arc?it would be awesome.

Agghhh
The battery life on the new firmware is horrid. I've make sure everything is closed off, only running data, on medium-animations, deleted accuweather widget, GPS, wi-fi, even location services but I'm still getting massive idle battery drain.
Under the previous firmware, I'd get about 1 - 1.5 per cent drain on idle, however since upgrading i'm getting about 3 per cent on idle (which ties in with what users on XDA are saying), I lost almost 50 per cent battery in about 12 hours today with very light use. I can't believe SE can mess the battery up again! It seems a common occurrence on Xperia phones, first with the X10 and then with the camera module when the Arc came out, finally I thought SE had fixed it with the previous firmware, but it's back again.
I'm really tempted to downgrade as although the updates make the phone a lot slicker now I can't deal with this this huge idle battery drain. I can except drain when using the phone, but not when it's sat on my desk not being used.
Hope SE sort this out pronto.

I just updated....haven't changed anything in my settings. GPS, Bluetooth are ON, Full Animations.
I used the phone for about 1hr of phone calls, some heavy whatsapp and viber msgs usage. Some sms. facebook a bit....and after 5 hours I have 72% looks pretty normal to me!
I see a huge difference in performance though, before it would lag a bit, especially when outside air conditioned areas....now it's very quick and responsive!

just got my arc for two days ,does it come with a screen protector preapplied? there is one in the box but i read before that the arc comes with preapplied screen protector.i am afraid to remove the plastic cover from the screen(the one that sticks out from the phone at the micro usb connector) as i don't want to have scratches.doyou recommend that i apply the included screen protector in the box whether it has a pre applied one or not? or if there is a prapplied one i have to remove it first?(i can't see if there is one applied or not, may be it is applied very perfectly that it doesn't appear.
thx

The one that comes on the phone, should have a little flap allowing you to peel it away. This really is meant just to protect the screen during transit etc. You can keep it on, but it's not its intention. If you're worried about scratch then apply the supplied screen protector, I did for the first few months, but have now removed it as it was getting annoying. I keep it in a polyethylene case which seems to do the job alright, really up to you.

Beneath the packaging cover (the one with the flappy bit) there is a pre applied shatter protection sheet that is perfectly smooth and perfectly applied. It is not scratch resistant. I've not tried the bundled scratch protector and doubt I will use it either. The glass beneath the shatter proof sheet is scratch resistant.
I will likely keep the shatter proofing sheet on until it gets scratched, then I'll take it off and use the screen naked. I'm completely scratch free so far, at nearly 6 months old, but on the other hand my friend dropped his in a pub the other night, it got kicked across the floor face down, he picked it up and it was scratched to hell, unsurprisingly.

thank you guys, i think i will leave the shatter proof shield and apply the screen protector later.

I have Arc since around 2nd of April and I didn't remove this default shield. Still looks almost perfect.

and you didn't apply the included screen protector?
Posted by Ricky D
The shatter protection sheet can get scratched and once it's scratched putting another cover over it gives bubbles in the scratched areas.
If I wanted to use the scratch protector I'd check if my shatter sheet is scratched I would take it off before putting the scratch resistant sheet on or if it's not scratched put it on before it gets scratched.
I've done neither though, I'm just taking care not to slide my phone across the floor screen down, throw it off a cliff or use it as a chisel anytime soon.

Click on contact / edit contact / hit the menu button and chose separate.
Posted by Xajel
I find the contacts is a bit mess here duo to the many sources ( accounts )
I doesn't want to join, but I want to merge and unit, ie... the info from separate accounts are merged together in only one contact and then uploaded to all accounts... the current way still makes the contact appears as multiple contacts saved !!

Does anyone have any ideas on fixing the multiple entries in the contact list? I have about 140 contacts but with all the synching I end up some contacts being duplicated up to six times.

I Use Google Mail and Update my Contacts through there and Sync it
Don't Sync your contacts with Facebook it will really mess up your contacts.

There was a join contacts option with the X10 mini, so I reckon there should be one in the arc options menu as well.

Thanks guys. I think the answer is to just stick with google mail and synch that way.

Today was the first time for me to use the arc in direct sunlight (and we have a really bright and hot sun here)and WoW , i am completely speechless , the screen is spectacular outdoors and i didn't eve crank it up to the highest brightness level.
neither gsmarena nor phonearena gave this aspect enough credit, words like" very good "and "easily readable" don't do the screen performance in sunlight justice. on another note ,i can't understand all the buzz about viewing angles , the majority of people here in Egypt put a privacy screen protectors here on their mobiles anyway that reduce the viewing angles significantly.

No Problem, Actually that was my problem too, i had no choice but to stick with google account to sync my contacts. but the only problem there, when you assign a hi-res contact pictures, google will downsize it.
as soon as you already have sync it, you could just reassign your contact ipictures again, or better you can use SE Sync too

I thought the whole viewing angles issue was overhyped. Yes the SGS2 has better viewing angles and the blacks are deeper than the Arc but I don't think the screen is massively better than the Arc.
I think the Arc's screen is a real joy to use. It's fantastically bright and vivid and the perfect resolution.
Posted by Alihosny
Totally agree
Posted by arcmhyke
They make it as their Standard when it comes to Screen Technology
For me ARC Screen One of the Best Screens out there Reality Display with Bravia Engine on top of that.
Posted by Alihosny
the only aspect which is inferior in the arc to sgs2 is the black levels i confess , but you get insane sunlight legibility in the arc in return , i think that's more important (for me at least).
Posted by Bonovox
Who is bothered about black levels. Who looks at a black screen anyway
