I bet most of these Arc were dropped, that's it.

I still think these cracks are caused by aggressive handling (squeezing) of the Arc. A previous quantitative - but not fully exhaustive post showed more users not having these cracks. I'm hoping the one I trade for tomorrow for my iPhone 4 doesn't have these issues. It'll be my second try at Android - the first gen Galaxy was such a horrible experience it's incredible screen was like putting makeup on a pig!

Are there any apps that. Cannot/do not run on the Arc?! I worry due to the qHD displays and dual core CPU Android phones becoming so common. How soon will SE launch the Arc upgrade?

I think there is no App Arc will have problem with ATM.
I don't know about games, I don't play much.

I had dropped mine twice from about 3 feet on to a carpet floor, but can't be sure if the hair-line crack appeared before or after, as at the time it was not something I was looking out for at that time. Though when I had heard more and more people bringing to light of this now (very common problem) I noticed mine had too. Only a couple of weeks later I my Arc fell from about 4 to 5 feet on to a marble floor. With that, there was a noticeable chip in top right hand corner of the device. Everytime I looked at my phone, my eyes were drawn to this area of my phone. So therefore I decided to have the housing replaced. I have only had the new housing on for just over 2 weeks, and at present I have not dropped it or noticed any cracks. I really hope it stays that way.

Can you tell me what date your phone was manufactured (found underneath the battery)?

One annoying bug, don't know if it's with android or the phone, but when you have a live wallpaper and you exit an application quickly sometimes the application freezes and is shown in the home screen behind the widgets and apps... Kind of weird

Posted by dibdin
Yes, that has happened on a few occasions previously, but as far as I know it has not/hardly happened at all since updating to 2.3.3

Posted by titus1
That's what you get from an uber slim phone. Where(perhaps) the plastic is so thin, it can't handle much stress.
(Sony)Style isn't worth it?

It's still on the UK page http://www.sonyericsson.com/update/?cc=gb&lc=en

but eh it doesn't come up when I search for it! Hurry up SE I want these new features

Posted by rikken
I have just updated my Neo so it should be available any time now. All the new features are great

Hey boys did you know Arc has ANT+?

Posted by Supa_Fly
^ I knew about that - in fact it was one of the premier devices that supported it.

OK I've jumped in the deep end so now show me just how deep this rabit hole goes!

A+ Traded iPhone 4 16GB for Xperia Arc Midnight Blue
Screen is INCREDIBLE with first impressions - nothing loaded, VERY fast system transitions.

1. I've downloaded SE PC Companion 2.01.210 Web.
- other than a local sync (can it with Outlook 2010 32bit?) what does this do?
- is there an OSX Snow Leopard/Lion compatible version? (yes I use Mac at home, Win7 at work).

2. I have Android 2.3.3 - is this the latest & greatest? If not is this THE most stable version for Arc?

3. I've Setup WLAN. Can I search or host media ON/TO the PS3 Slim that I have?

4. Same as #3 but Can I do this with Mac OS X and Win7 64-bit? How - I'm sure I can figure this out just trying to get a jump start as a have a LONG & Busy week ahead of me.

5. Internal Space shows 280MB Free. Should I be worried and what is THIS used for? (I'm guessing its like BlackBerry where apps are stored on local/internal RAM as Storage for system API access)

6. Quick Text Settings: which option is best for word corrections in Emails/Application text entry vs short-hand SMS L33t speak?

7. OMFG Man! Application Settings shows a whole boat load of junk running in "Running Services". I have no freakin clue WHAT this junk is ... I almost want to kill everything instinctively. This is where the simplicity of iPhone rules (I don't know what is core system but the system knows what process should run by default and doesn't need to tell me). What is normal and what is NOT?

Posted by adsada
I've answered the ones I know...

1. It's basically a home hub allowing you to do everything, so gives you options to sync your data, update the software etc.

2. Yes and yes, 2.3.4 is due out sometime soon

5. You can save apps on the memory card so you can installed unlimited apps, though not all are supported for this. There is an app which helps show you which ones can be moved, found on the android market

7. A lot of this stuff doesn't really affect the phone when running in the background, though some things slow it down, in the settingsit also tells you how much memory the applications are each using. There is an app called advanced task killer, which helps you kills apps with one click. Having this option may seen complicated but at least Android gives you this option - iOS is so restricted and basic, for a smartphone operating system is a joke.

I got the new update! I'll try and put a detailed account of what's changed:

-xLOUD has been added allowing for louder and clearer audio
-You can shoot in stereo sound
-You can now change the theme of the background colour in the different menus like settings etc.
-The icons in camera mode now rotate when in portrait though interestingly not in video mode.
-Mediascape widget has been updated, icons moved
-The little dots telling you what screen you're on have been changed
-The pinch to zoom feature of apps now makes the widgets hover around and reacts to the phone being shaken
-You can now delete apps from the app menu
-New unlock sound
-Cool CRT effect when locking the screen
-A whole load of apps have been added
Anything missed?

One thing I don't get is the rotating home screen which was promised with this update? Other then that some pretty nice features added

Posted by Ricke77
You who have gotten the update?? Is it Android 2.3.4 or still 2.3.3??

Posted by fjcarlsson
I was prompted about new software availability. It has to be done with SEUS and not OTA. Will check it out later. UK generic, in Sweden.

Posted by adsada
It's still 2.3.3

Posted by Platia1
Rotating home screen is for HDMI only

Posted by adsada
Errr...this update now has made taking photos a lot slower, after taking the shot it takes a bit longer to come back to take a new photo. Which was something awesome with the phone before - you could just keep snapping constantly, but this is no longer possible

There is no noticeable reason for this, file sizes of the photos are the same as before.

I believe, the sync is just a gateway to SE's WEB based sync and hence it doesn't sync locally nor does it support sync with outlook. For that you can use MyPhoneExplorer (an app needs to be installed both on your phone and on your PC). Other than that PCC can be used to update the phones software as well as transferring media files to the phone (it automatically converts movies and clips to a format suitable for the phone).

SE does not support MAC's so you have to use third party apps for that such as salling clicker and doubletwist.

2.3.3 is the main version number and yes, that i st the latest. However, recently SE released an update to 2.3.3 providing some extra goodies, which is currently what people discuss in this thread. Not sure if that is installed on your device as well (checkout the revision number under Settings|About The Phone).

This is where apps you install are stored. Most (although not all) apps can also be installed on the SD card if the internal storage (space) is not enough (bear in mind that lot of apps are like 1 MB or smaller).

You don't have to do a slightest thing. Just leave it as is and the OS will do the rest.

The phone supports DLNA so....
Yes! You can stream the content on your phone to the PS3 by using Mediaserver.

Just updated to lastest firmware using SEUS, I noticed the picture and video widget doesn't seem working though. Try adding it but say its already added but in fact its not..........anyone know how to add back this widget for music, pictures, video?? Thanks....

Also, the calendar layout has changed again........still prefer the X10 2.1 calendar layout with show upcoming agenda on bottom of calendar.

Just saw a user at our Swedish forum Swedroid reporting same thing. Reason for that is not known yet. So far I have only seen 2 describing this problem.

It means can't be assed, though I just tried rebooting it and to no avail. So until they realise another update I guess you'll just have to make do with the gallery and music apps on your homescreen. Yeah pretty annoying

Hard to say, it's got some great stuff like xLOUD and stereo sound, but the fact that a main widget has stopped working, slowed down camera etc. I would maybe consider waiting for 2.3.4 which should be out soon, which will obviously incorporate these features, hopefully fix the broken ones and add new ones.

Who lost widget. Go to all application on task manager, then Sony erricsson home , then clear. You clear all, but can add all widgets.

Settings -> Apps. There you have some more App management options.

@adsada, Doministry, Ricke77, & Arne Anka, Thank you ALL so much!!

Now I'm ready to use this phone. I'll figure out MediaGo when I get home to transfer my music Playlist along with pictures and such.

Since I'm in-between transfering providers I cannot even use this for ANYTHING data related.
^ EDIT: This is resolved! My home network is at fault - work I'm GOOOOOOD.

Why didn't I get this phone SOONER?!?!
Though shalt trust in SonyEricsson like before.

Go to settings, applikations, choose all programs and scroll down to Sony Ericsson Home Service. There you can reset/clear data.

I finally bought an Arc, can't wait for Xperia Neo, been using it for 3 days now

and updated it using PCC and got the latest software 4.0.A.2.368

here's a video of Unboxing my Xperia Arc

Unboxing Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc

then downloaded lots of HD games from Gameloft(Starfront, Rainbow 6, Star Battalion etc) and tried them on the phone

so far so good, no random reboots yet, no unwanted lag, battery life i think is good enough, 8hrs idle only 4~5% drain

To all of you, who have updated your Arcs to the latest firmware - what do you think about the new overview mode? Isn't it pretty useless in its current eye-candy effects?

Posted by HxH
Haven't own the Arc yet, but look in many video reviews.
Personally, love this so far
