Hi !
Totally rooting your phone gives you permission to Read/Write the system files ! Which this include many tweaks !
Like : first of all having Custom ROMs ... or for example louder your phone speaker sound ... there are many apps need root access to be working ...

And some more!

Quite pricey when you check the current Yen to Pounds exchange rate

These ones above and below are aluminium!

and the one with the dog is 14,800 Yen at 127 yen to the pound = 116 pounds!

Might be a stupid question, but can the micro usb port on the arc, be used for anything else besides charging and data transfer? such as accessories, like the old SE fast port. What kind of things? Like it'd be cool if you could connect a usb stick into it via an adaptor...

Hey gang.

Got some questions that I'm hoping you can answer. These may not be specific to the Arc vs Android as a platform but hoping you will all be able to help out, please.

Android
- when you get a link in an email, say an invite/notification that you've been added to: LinkedIn, FaceBook, Twitter and you click it ... does this automatically open the application if installed?
(I'm hoping applications do share data due to the core system API's).
- Are notifications prevalent when using applications? IE do you get a simplistic SMS icon & LED when received without a pop-up IN-YOUR-FACE SMS?
(I'm used to BlackBerry where I get an SMS the LED, sound/vibrate (selectable/editable) will notify me).
- More importantly if the Arc is locked and you get an SMS does the Name/Number/actual text get displayed on the LOCK screen or when you Unlock it?
(I have some serious privacy issues with the iPhone 4 ... I'm just a private person when it comes to my communication; nothing to hide I just hate nosey ppl that don't ask to view my information. I'm not confident that iOS5 will change this for the better).

Arc
- Looks like the pics are pure quality - traditionally SonyEricsson.
- Is the camera button easy to accidentally press when not wanting to engage it?
- Has anyone over 5ft dropped their Arc on carpet/concrete and not have to worry about it working?

Thanks guys ...

You get a pop up asking what do you want to do, whether to open it with the app, with the default browser, etc. You can set an app by default.

You get notifications shown in the status bar. Also the phone vibrates and a led blinks. No pop ups in your face.

No you have to perform a hard press (a couple of seconds) to launch the camera
- Has anyone over 5ft dropped their Arc on carpet/concrete and not have to worry about it working?
My wife did , twice! Now I've scratches on the top angles, but nothing went wrong. Arc didn't even shut down or reboot.

Thanks guys ...

where do you guys get HD quality videos?
cant find any..
for example official music video in HD quality..

Just bought an Arc. Lovely piece

Bought a Misty Silver in Sweden on www.netonnet.se. Noticed that it was German instructions in the box. It also had just 8 GB memory card and a car-charger (AN401+USB-cable) instead of a HDMI-cable. Contacted them and they would send me a HDMI-cable. I already have a 16 GB card so...

Some questions...
1) What app to use for Exchange sync? I had Moxier in my X10.
2) How do I get the Gmail to be divided in inbox and preview in landscape mode? Or is it just the other mail-app that can do that?

Cheers,

Mange

1) On XDA it was reported native email app can do it fine
2) This can be done on nice inbuilt app. Gmail app is really poor (on every Android I believe)

@doministry
Tnx. I just figured it out yesterday when I had a little more time to set up the phone.

Hi everyone, i want to root my Arc, but seems like the GingerBreak is not work in 2.3.3, so i'm thinking about downgrade it to 2.3.2 first, but mine got chinese language and input for current 2.3.3, if i flash with 2.3.2 generic, will my chinese language and input gone?

Posted by Ricky D
@APR you won't lose the chinese input. But just in case you do I can send you the apk for it.

Just wondering have people tried timescape on their Arc?
mine works fine except for twitter.it only shows up my last tweet.
Saw x10 owners had similar problems but firmware update fixed twitter problems for most of thence.

Apk is apps system extension, like .sys for symbian etc.

What do you mean?
I use Timescape since day 1 on my Arc and it works well.
Shows all the tweets from my twitter I believe.

Timescape only shows the tweet I last made ,but it doesnt show anything else in the tiles.
I think twitter have made an update and the timescape software needs an update.

Maybe review your settings?
Mine shows all the timeline perfectly. Just did it now.

tried on a mates xperia play and its not working for him as well, it could be that as our phones are rooted that its effecting it.

What version of the twitter application do you have on your phone?

What Twitter app has to do with it?
Anyway I have the latest Twitter app from Marketplace.

Maybe rooting is a reason. My Timescape updates Twitter anytime I want. Non rooted phone.

Posted by cableguy
i thought that their might be a newer twitter application and timescape was using that

AFAIK they are completely unrelated apps. They also have separate widgets - Timescape and Twitter - which don't update each other but only themselves.

hey,

im loving the Arc at the moment! first android phone and i must say its much better than the se satio i had before it (god rest its soul) the only complaint i have is with the casing, my battery cover creaks quite abit, does anyone else notice that between the face plate edge and the silver lining there is a tiny tiny gap where dust gets stuck in there, i notice it when in a bright place like outdoors, is there any chance of this getting behind the face plate and having pieces of constant dust stuck behind the glass?

thanks

Posted by adsada
Do you mean around the screen edge? Then yeah I've noticed that as well. I can't say for certain
but I don't think it will cause dust to show under the screen glass. Also mine likewise creaks etc. it's just the fact that the phone has been built so thinly, and is a product of sony ericsson known for there dogy build quality. Such a good brand making great prospects products just let down by materials.

Posted by jon3619
I meant further down than the edge of the screen, where it meets the silver edge, its like they have left a tiny gap. Where dust gets.i donw know if its an actual gap or just the design and you only notice the dust under alot of light and the right angle

hello,
any one had a issue with teh phone randomly reset/turn off just after a call is connected?
happened a few times now and is rather annoying.

i say hello and so do they
then i notice all is blank with dead air
look at screen and its blank, so press in middle of screen and its back at the screenlock pin enter

network: orange uk
version: 2.3.3
unbranded only a long time ago

cheers

Hi i just got a arc in uk on orange, the case is creaking on this one,i am having some problem getting bluetooth to see a movon car kit i have can anyone help me thanks john

Posted by fjcarlsson
I constantly see unfortunate people trying to operate their iphones through a cracked screen when commuting to work. I have however never seen anyone doing the same with xperia. So the point of bad build quality doesn't add up to me. I have dropped my Arc a number of times and it does not have a mark on it, maybe because the inbuilt flexibility of the materials? And my casing doesn't creak. Just a thought.

Posted by Bonovox
Well you're obviously lucky cos the Arc I had creaked like the Cutty Sark. However,my Neo is perfect.

It's rather you who were unlucky because of this.

Anyway,
Any good weather widget/app?
Remembering many locations and RELIABLE??

Weather Bug became complete shit, it doesn't remember location, assholes.

Any ideas?

I got a free one called 3D weather clock though it's not animated it is good. The ones are always crap. I did download a HTC one but it always forced close With 3D weather clock you can tap it & it shows you battery time left in % & battery temperature plus memory & ram left though at times not sure if it's accurate.

Hi.
No there is no chance that the dust will get between the faceplate and LCD, they are glued together. I just had my ARC in pieces to be able to change faceplate, frame and backplate, so I have checked it out. And no I have stoped using the original bag that came with the phone. The one the phone slips out of....

Hi, a friend of mine wants to be able to update to Gingerbread 2.3.3, however, in our region, the update is still not available....

Is there a way to change the region of the phone, so SEUS updates it to the latest version?

Many thanks in advance!
