I have an issue (?) though I don't know what is the designed behaviour.

So when I get a notification about new FB messages, when I go to notifications and click it, it just disappears, not leading to FB app.

Is that normal?

this problem might blow my arc away. what a sad!

Posted by xtacy
That's a noticeable crack. Does this plague the majority of arcs? And any idea of how to prevent this?

Posted by ^^HAMID^^
Does it happened suddenly and with no reason? He didn't have any drop or accident?
This reminds me X1 cracks! Another SE's feat

2 Major problems with my Arc that if anybody could quickly refer me to some info I would appreciate:

1. There is a serious lag in its performance for the past 2 weeks. At times, there has been a 5 second pause in the processor reacting to my instruction. Rebooting doesn't really help.

2. My home button is starting to get sticky - twice now it has remained pressed in after I have used it.

Thoughts?

Has anyone in the UK managed to install the Amazon (UK) shopping app? On the market it states this is incompatible with the Arc! - Anyone know if this is true of all 2.3 devices? - shocker if so.

I haven't been able to and I have tried, I would like to though.

Might be a good thing though, as I spend an unhealthy amount of time on the eBay app...

Yes HxH I have the same problem, though I cannot be 100% sure of it was due to my Arc plummeting to the ground the other day.

Posted by unknown_x
I made a poll at HTCMANIA arc forum and at the moment it goes like this:

7 people with a black/blue ARC with the crack at the same spot

12 people with a black/blue ARC without the crack

2 people with a silver ARC without the crack

Posted by HxH
Really sad to hear from you guys, personally looking forward this Christmas for the Arc but I might considered it again, because never reconsidered on their material policy.

Posted by unknown_x
Updating the poll at HTCMANIA:

8 people with a black/blue ARC with the crack at the same spot

19 people with a black/blue ARC without the crack

5 people with a silver ARC without the crack

It seems that not everyone is having this problem and that the silver ARC doesn't suffer it at all.

UNFORTUNATELY I confirm Arc has one fckn bug, I don't know what causes that.

It RESETS it's date (always to 26th June) and time. Randomly, every week or so. What a cr..p.

after you set the date & time , switch the : Automatic(use network-provided values) on and leave it on don't switch it off.
it should solve your issue .

But I DON'T want it on. I want the time I set not automatic.

I would like to know if it's the bug or some apps cause this.

@doministry If it's a bug, I've not seen it in person. I think it's also unlikely but not impossible that it's an app. I'd be tempted to try a factory reset and don't install anything, then add apps one by one until you find the root of the issue. It may well just need a factory reset but installing the apps one by one ill allow you to eliminate those from your investigation also.

Unfortunately this was the reason I sent my Arc back. Terrible materials.

Thanks. I will definitely not do a hardreset, I don't really see a reason to make myself such a problem. I thought anyone found a reason or pattern since some other users reported this also.

@Bonovox

I have a silver Arc and on close examination I can see a really, really thin line going between the sensor and the edge of the phone. However it does not continue on where the edge bevels. As it is now I don't know if this is a crack in the casing... I'll guess I'll keep an eye on it from now on.

What you see on your phone is a molding issue. It is a nit line from the molding because the cut out for the sensor is molded in and there is a small core in the mold. The plastic has to flow around the core and where it meets up it leaves a nit line. That could affect every phone that is out there if the same molding process was used on all of the front covers. Sad but true.

Was going to ask if you guys are enjoying the Skype with video call but I see its not supported.

OK just checked GSMArena. The Arc has no secondary camera.Didnt know that.

Just got my arc yesterday, I noticed that when used in direct sunlight (even if the screen is switched off) these reflective dots appear in uniform lines the whole way across the screen, which is really annoying. It does it when you angle it to catch the sun. I was wondering if others have this problem or is it a fault? The screen is beautiful when out of sun and works fine

Are you sure your network provider supports this at all ? In Sweden, no opertator I know of supports automatic set of time, so whether it is enabled or not makes no difference here.

i'm new to android, and i cant figure out how to change the background, for the settings menu, texting etc. which is currently dark blueish, is it possible to change it

thanks

Those dots are normal, they are on the X10 as well.
Nope, you cant change those background themes unfortunetly.

I think yes my provider gives me that opportunity.

WTF? I saw in many reviews and previews the option "Themes" in the stand by menu! And it's gone?

Guys I was using ProfiMail last 5 years considering this as the best mail client.
I used this on Symbian UIQ, WindowsMobile and now Android.

Unfortunately I was forced to change my view because this app performs major problems!

It DELETES whole accounts and emails randomly, right after freeze!

So if you don't make any backup and really trust the app you may have serious problems.

My advice is TO NOT TO BUY this app. If you HAVE to or already use one - make backup!!!

I am slowly resigning and switching to SE Arc default email which appears to be really nice!!!

Are you sure about that? Telia works its NTP magic on my neo, just set it to auto and wait.

Not 100%. But I have used both Telia and Tele2 with various phones and none have kept the time correctly and have seen lot of others with similar problem. Granted last time I used Telia was a couple of years ago before I had a 3G enabled phone (seems GSM networks do not carry the time while 3G networks do according to some).

Same for me, I'm on automatic time and I like the fact that my time is always accurate

Could be true, that 3G carries some sort of ntp. It's essentially a constant open data connection so it wouldn't be wierder than ntp on our own computers

That seems a bit of a flaw then, as it makes viewing really annoying when in the sun

Posted by Ricky D
@adsada It's not unusual for touchscreens to have these. It's a lot worse on resistive screens than on capacitive screens and it's not always manifested as dots but on certain manufacturer's screens it's complete diagonal lines or long dashed lines.

Posted by adsada
I've got another question sorry but I'm really paranoid about my arc, does your arc get noticeably warm at the top of the phone where the earpiece is and on the back where the camera is located, is this normal?

Posted by Bonovox
Mine did when I had one it is perhaps where the CPU is or maybe just the screen. All that power in a thin phone the heat has to go somewhere. Can you imagine a phone with a CPU fan

haha that would be pretty funny, I might just keep it next to a fan I think it does it when I use the camera, as I just tried the now. But yeah I'm not surprised as everything must be packed into the two ends of the phone

Posted by Bonovox
When I had the Arc it became hottest when playing Angry Birds or using the internet Worst phone I ever had for becoming hot was the HTC Desire. The phone often got so hot it kept rebooting.

Battery question!!

Does any of you guys see battery % fluctuating? Like, mine nowadays goes to like 70% then up 72% then after a while 70% again. Sometimes it's as small as 2% and other times it can be 12%

I'm not sure if it's a heating problem, I live in Egypt, the weather is insanely hot (not like Gulf hot, but still hot) and I get from hot to Air Conditioned frequently. Also, I've never seen battery temperature below 32 celcius. It's not really bugging me but I don't want this to be damaging the battery!

As for heating, it does heat near the earpiece when I'm talking on the phone, angry birding or browsing. Probably CPU, 'coz since it happens while talking on the phone the screen is off.

Apart from all that....brilliant phone and loving it

There is now a crack appearing on my Arc above the sensor. I guess I have to get this sorted under warranty.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Oh dear why do SE ALWAYS end up making bad build material decisions? This cracking issue reminds me of the W850 dpad, S500/W580 keypad, and X1 corners cracks, hope they fix this soon or its going to be a huge problem one of which they realy cant afford at this point.

I don't play games much but it gets occassionally warm when heavy browsing.
However nothing critical.

Hi,

Today I have an X10 and is thinking of upgrade to probably an Arc. Many of U have now used the Arc for quite some time. Have U noticed any lagging in its performance? Any other things that didn't fulfill your expectations? Saw the writing about the crack above the light sensor.

BR,

Magnus

My arc does not have any cracks and I have not noticed any lag (have had mine since March). My wife has an X10 and it really is a big difference – the arc reacts much much faster (perhaps a combination of the digitizer and the newer version of Android).

Posted by MyP910
I've been using my arc since april and I don't have any single problem. No crack, no peformance lag and much much much better than my previous X10.

With arc, I don't need custom rom.

Posted by doministry
I confirm two above opinions. No problem besides ONE:

the phone occassionally resets it's time and date.

But it looks I'm one of just a few people encountering this and looks like
most users don't report it at all.

Posted by winnerzero
ive had midnight blue arc since launch and havent had any problems with lag or performance at all. It does have the crack at the top of the sensor (if u look very closely though) but I have unfortunately dropped it a couple times. Coming from an x10 it is much faster and feels much better to use...loving this phone and cant put it down...best phone out there. Friends have incredible s n nexus s n they are great phones as well but all agree the arc looks the best...camera performance is better than anything out there as well...call me a fanboy but this is an awesome phone that I dont understand why it didnt sell as well as the crappy Samsung phones which ive used before.

Hi everyone! I just bought my Arc a few days ago, and this is my first Android device, so I got a question, that is, what's the benefits of rooting our device? For an example?

Posted by adsada
on the demo video of the arc it shows the menu screen able to be used when the phone rotates on its side so the icons rotates with it, like on the play. Obviously the arc doesn't do this, think they'll add it later?
