3 simple things really the UI, Audio & Camera.

Yes, its massively quick and the screen is stunning but the 3 little things changed my mind.

The Arc also feels much better in your hand IMO.

Good Point!

Posted by rickster2kuk
The UI really? I thought Touchwiz wasn't too bad and was a bit better than the vanilla SE interface which has far less customisation like Samsung and HTC.

What was wrong with the camera on the SGS2?

Posted by AndyD777
The Arc has a better camera, images seem more natural and sharper. Low light shots are much better on the Arc, I guess thats down to the sensor.

In terms of the UI, its just the silly little thing of aesthetics. As a example the dialer on the SGS2 is just a visual eye saw same with phone book etc..... The best way to sum it up I think is, it looks like it has been designed by a 3 year old.

I'll give it a few more days, but its the little things which are bugging me already.

Do you know what I mean?

Meh, I have no chance to play with GS2 yet, but this weekend it have mobile expo event so I could have some hands-on demo unit

Look from video review so far, I'm quite impressive about how they work and customize their Touchwiz 4 (only this time is positive, all previous are sluggish and I didn't even eyes for it)

About audio I recently read from some blog, that GS2 equipped with Yamaha sound chipset, not Wolfson like original GS maybe reflect on this but GSMArena review is very positive (quite positive for SS I feel somehow)

Camera result is also received very well feedback from any major review sites as well, but I do love the way works on camera UI

But I love to hear from real life experience and hand on like you, thanks for sharing

BTW, little bit about price tag over here is crazy now, can you believe it?
HTC Sensation LG Optimus 3D and this GS2 are all available for less than 620USD
Sim free though but the bad is only pre-order and schedule to (quickest) release is up to mid-July
While the Arc is currently highest tag around 660USD, personally not made up my mind
until Christmas or probably next CES (to see what offer us after the Arc or better grab at bargain)
I have learnt from Satio that you shouldn't buy when it only two weeks released This time about a year

@elnitrox

I don't think Dubai have the official market app they have their own variation market app. This is to do with an incompatibility of Google policy and UAE law I believe. This is probably why you can't anything from the android market website.

Your choices are:

I can give you more full step by step instructions if you need them.

Has anyone else noticed since the update that the big digital clock widget does not loose time now, as opposed to before, when say for instance you were spending sometime on the internet, and then when you go back to the homescreen it could be a few minutes out, depending how long you were on the net.

Battery drain seems to be fixed Previously I lost about 5% an hour during the night with only datanetwork switched off but last night I only lost 2% during the whole night with the same setting

Hello, sorry for my english but a have the GS2 now (i still have the arc), Ok for the IU (it's a question of taste) but it's faster for everything, everywhere than arc !

The camera is better than arc too, more sharp, less noise. The only thing is the colour of arc's camera is more warm/eye candy.

I'm not a great fan of Samsung but i must admit it is better than arc for everything except for the look, arc is better design for sure !

Posted by HxH
About 2.3.3 update, any noticeable improvement over camera department, especially contrast color and noise reduction but I'm not expect about quality due to limitation of hardware (1/3.2) from such a tiny camera sensor.

Thanks for sharing as well, Davidsic.

Posted by AndyD777
@davidsic I have found the Arc to produce a more natural / shaper picture. Where you notice the Arc is much better is low light photos, I have done some testing of the two and the Arc seems to perform better.

I can post some example for those that are interested.

I agree about speed of the handset, its lighting fast.

I've heard the dynamic range on the SGS2 isn't as good as the Arc, i.e. it tends to "blow out" skies more or make foregrounds dark when focusing on sky.

Posted by AndyD777
Ill post up some pictures. I think .

Yes you're right for that.

@ AndyD777, arc produce more noise in low light than gs2, flash/led perform better with the samsung but colours are a bit cold.

Overall i thing colours by gs2 are more real but arc is more pleasing.

Anyway arc isn't a bad phone and its camera is fine

The Update really improved the Arc. I was getting a little discontent with it, but now Im a happy owner again! No spectacular changes, but overall better performance and definately an improvement on the battery life!
Itīs a great device again!

I did and all was fine. Did not lose any apps whatsoever.

The words can't describe how awesome this is

Whent to bed 23:00 last night, checked the battery it was ~63%
woke up around 09:00 this morning (10h later) and checked the battery again was ~58%
meaning it had dropped ~0.5%/h during the night, whitout any special settings, total time is now 23h as i am writing this.

have you guys had the same experience?

note: I did a clean install, mening Factory Reset/wiping my sdcard(not formating) but removed everything execpt Whatsup backup and Pictures

Posted by SirRobin
So the battery improvement is already after updating or is it better do do a full wipe and reinstall all what i need?

Posted by justus333
I didnt reinstall anything and Im having the same experience! A lot of videos, fotos and games yesterday and now, after 20hours, it is still on 49%. Would have been unthinkable before!

Please do, I'm very interested

how running apps do u have guys for default apps..

Posted by ^^HAMID^^
@ AndyD777

You say the Arc photos are better but in Photo Compare Tool in GSMarena GS2 picture is sharper than Arc, plus less noise in GS2's... (as u see blow)

IMO the Arc's photos are from beta firmware!
Could u plz place some photos from ur own database? (both Arc and GS2) we can have a domestic comparison here

Posted by doministry
@^^HAMID^^

Well mate I can find 5 other parts of this pic where Arc looks much better.
Especially the umbrella part for instance.

Posted by AndyD777
@^^HAMID^^ Id be more then happy to, Ill try and get some posted up this evening, plus a few low light ones.

Neocore benchmarking tool on an Acer Liquid Mini, Sony Ericsson Xperia arc, Motorola ATRIX, HTC Sensation, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and Samsung Galaxy S II.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srS03zyRwv4

Is this for real? I mean the Arc has a single-core but it was able to be on par with the dual-core devices and it even outputted the ATRIX.
[ This Message was edited by: Shino03 on 2011-06-03 14:35 ]

Incomparable, for now

1) Neocore is based from Qualcomm which devices runs on Qualcomm platform
will likely have better chance for compatible driver and result in better scores
GS2 runs on their own platform Exynos and Atrix based from Nvidia
no such a chance to have best driver optimized for this program, at least I don't think so!
LG O2X is done a good job for optimized their device, Sensation just very early prototype.

2) Dual Core platform don't even run on native OS system for mobile yet, it mean no fully utilize real potential on this kind of hardware
Ice Cream Sandwich? not sure if it will have native for dual core but it will for some app support to use power of dual core
Arc already fight with two hands but instead Atrix or any dual core units can fight only one and another pulled on their back

I though I removed all of that

Posted by ^^HAMID^^
@ SKIBBE
Where did you see the camera model?

@ Andy777
Good job dude! both are good and cant be separated!
But the difference would be shown in original size crop ! like GSMarena....
So we need original sizes plz.
Second request :
Try to get pictures in dim conditions! also indoor pictures always are the hard job for cameras (noises increase and sharpness reduces)

Last damn request

LINK the original sizes

PS : Andy when you look at the real scene and pictured one, which device has natural colors?

I'm not overly impressed with arc's cam myself. It's fast and that is a huge step up, but the results are over processed, colours are sometimes garish and flooded and the sharpness isn't there at all compared to some others. It reminds me of the N95 vs K850 shootout only this time SE are on the crap over processed side of the fence.

You can guess the device by saving one of the images to your PC and looking at the properties.

The give away is "Program name"
on device 1 = "3.0.1.A.0.145_2b_f200"
on device 2 = "I9100BUKE1"

Guess which one is ARC

Posted by ^^HAMID^^
Guess which one is ARC

Oh! don't make it that hard

colours are sometimes garish and flooded and the sharpness isn't there at all compared to some others

Yes! that's my feeling too! it was the most common problem with Samsung's phones as i remember! now this is switched to SE's

Posted by rickster2kuk
I think cameraphones are leaning towards slight oversatuaration of photos. I think they think most people like them that way. The iphone 4 is typical for this, extremely oversaturated photos, much worse than the Arc.

Agree thou, that I do find the Arc's photos a little oversaturated and yes it is akin to the N95. The trouble is the X10's photos for me were a little washed out and all that was needed was a slight tweek. The good thing is that it's all the software doing this and not the camera itself, but unfortunately we don't have control over the saturation.

In terms of sharpness, Arc is fine, yes the photos are nosier than the X10, but then the X10's photos were quite smudged close up do to the noise reduction algorithm.

The SGS2 seems to have more natural colours, but the some I have seen seem a little dull (I guess there is no pleasing everyone ).

One thing that is highlighted is the massive sky blow on the garden shot, I'd heard the SGS2 had a habit of doing this and this would explain Massuer's shots that he struggled with.

Overall, I prefer the Arc, but then I am biased .

Posted by winnerzero
Well, i'm just as biased towards my arc as well and can safely say that I prefer SE over anything Samsung produces especially their overhyped AMOLED screens which I find unnatural and battery draining and bad in sunlight. Those photo comparisons were very good, I guessed device 1 was arc as well, glad to see i was right!

Im still suffering from the music player problem in 2.3.3 though, where there are split albums. I tried both adding and deleting Album Artist as per Unknown_X's post but unfortunately this hasn't stopped the problem for me. It seems like everything is the same except for the Artist, where the song thats split from the rest of the album is a duet. I tried deleting the duet's artists and renaming back to only the original album artist but it still left me with a split album! This is starting to bug me. Why can't android just get a decent music player?...I honestly think SE shouldn't have ditched Mediascape, it was so much better than stock android player and still is really. I don't particularly want to use another music player because I believe you shouldn't have to for such a phone, but i might have to...

On another note, anybody tried Talkbox? Its a pretty cool app where u leave instant voice msgs instead of texts to ppl on your contact list...like a walkie talkie...its very fun...but sucks quite a bit of battery...

Posted by unknown_x
@Winnerzero

try to upload a screenshot of one of those split albums with mp3tag and lets see if we can find what's the missing tag
