Has anybody removed the pre-applied screenprotector ? Wonder if the screen is really scratch resistance

Posted by Bonovox
I did on my x10 & the screen protector is more prone to scratches than the screen itself. Trust me Same for the Arc. I think though the protector is more for shatter proof as it really is thick when you take it off

Any effect on screen quality ?

Posted by Bonovox
Nope none at all

Posted by rmk152
Even though i wrap my baby in cotton wool, i would never have one without Screen Protector.

I am well happy with Arc since 31-03-11, only 1 noticeable Reboot and 1 of the lockscreen bug:

Posted by rickster2kuk
Confirmed - Camera app battery drain has been fixed. Snapped off 6 - 7 photos yesterday afternoon and no significant battery drop like I had before.

I've done the update and it seems a little more buggy than it did before. Except for the battery which had stabalised anywau i had no problems. Since the update my battery seems to drain quicker and it's less responsive and slow loading. I also keep getting temporary status warnings that it is unable to update facebook/timescape. I had no problems before.

@alye- flash the generic uk firmware using flashtool. Thats the best out there.

Posted by Ricky D
New FW looks good. battery seems about 20% better so far.

I had a weird thing with the gallery though. After I restored apps and stuff with titanium, I opened gallery and saw my albums as expected and the thumbnails were in the correct folders but when I opened up one or two from a folder that wasn't the default camera location, the enlarged photos didn't match the thumbnail I touched to open. I tried clearing the gallery data and restarting the phone to no avail. Eventually I found a folder on the SD where the gallery thumbnails are cached and cleared that folder which caused the gallery to have to redo the thumbs. This sorted the problem.

Just thought I'd share the experience in case anyone else has it and doesn't know what to do.

I've not been able to update yet, it keeps saying the fone already has the most upto date software, maybe its coz I'm on vodafone..?

Posted by Ricky D
@dsrv27 Yeah probably vodafone's update will be in the next couple weeks. You can update to a generic UK firmware using flash tool. It's relatively easy, you'll then be on the generic UK firmware so will probably get updates faster in future, your phone will still work on SEUS but the interface on the tool isn't as pretty as SEUS. It won't root your phone or unlock the bootloader but will give you the newest FW.

I still don't know why it takes so long for the network operators to approve firmware, updates etc. In this day and age where the smartphone is king the updates are really critical.

I doubt the operators would dare to hold up any iphone update.

flash tool

Generic UK FW - not sure if the 'update version' will cause you problems as technically you are changing region, try it and if it doesn't work go for the 'fresh install' version. Don't forget to backup your angry bird scores. I'd cry if I lost all my watermelons on the newest angry birds RIO!

I think with the iPhone the networks don't get a choice about approving software updates this is because Apple don't offer the network customised FW in the same way. For SE it is a thing they're into as if a network can have it's own stuff on it (like H3G's Planet3 portal) it gives them a closer connection to their users.

The delay comes when the generic is ready for release, SE will release it (no point waiting right?) but the networks then have to say what add-ons they want, SE put it in and make it compat with the updates, then the network has to look at it and say it's not got any bugs. When you look at the fact it has to be written, sent to a few different people and tested the process is understandably a couple weeks.

The other option is hold the ready-to-go generic FW and the network FWs that are already approved and release it all at once and give the customers a feeling that everything was better planned, but if they did that you knew what was happening, would you complain that they didn't release the generic as soon as possible for the greatest possible impact? I'd be frustrated if I had a generic handset but had to wait an extra two weeks.

I am in Singapore and also still no update available eventhough I have an unbranded phone.

My question if I update to the latest Uk version it shouldn't cause any problems right?

Thanks

Posted by Ricky D
@rizzamarv It won't cause any problems. My handset was purchased unbranded from Singapore and I'm now running UK generic FW which I installed with flashtool.

Posted by SKIBBE
strange that sweden does not get the Generic FW first.

Will the update 2.3.3 erase everything from my phone??

Posted by rickster2kuk
If you use PC Companion to update it will not.

depends on what option you select.

Do you have a locked bootloader? If so just use SEUS and update the phone.

it is sim free and not rooted if that helps.

loving my arc even more after this update...so much so i'm even considering getting a silver one to play around with as a spare...or maybe one of the mini pros when they are released.

One thing i've noticed is the music player after the update seems to think an album with a contributing artist is a completely different album altogether. e.g. Linkin Park and Jay-Z Collision Course album instead of showing up all the songs under one album, each song will show up as a completely different album. Anyone else experiencing this?

Hey, remember the Back Up & Restore app we had for X10? Is there an official SEMC equivalent for Arc? Android market and SEMC Support site doesn't yield anything.

What really annoys me about the camera is that I can't review the pictures I have taken from the camera app directly. I have to exit out and go in to the media gallery.

Am I missing a shortcut?

Posted by SKIBBE
Yes you do, the latest pictures shows directly in the camera app to the right in landscape mode, just swipe your finger on the right side to the left, to make it visible if you don't see it

After the 2.3.3 update, has anyone noticed an improvement in battery life? I personally not noticed any difference at present. Also have any users agree that the Arc seems to be more speedier and the screen more responsive??
Again I have not spotted any noticeable improvements in these areas.

Would be interested to hear other peoples thoughts on this.

Still waiting for the unbranded update for Sweden

Posted by PhoenixR
Since my Arc was rooted before, I could change my region to UK generic and updated with SEUS. (because my region didn't get the update yet)

After the update, the battery is a lot better, nearly double for me (I used to take my phone off the charger in the morning, and it was empty by nighttime). Now, after a full day it's at 66%.

The UI doesn't seem more responsive to me, it was very smooth before, actually in some cases it actually lags a bit where it didn't before, but not very noticeable. It usually happens when the phone comes back from standby, so it might just have to do with the improvements to battery life, that the phone now enters standby more reliably.

Other issue is that GingerBreak rooting doesn't work anymore, but I hope that will be update.

True.

I had a upgrade on my contract so i though i would see howvit conpares agains the Arc.

So far the SGS2 has a lower audio volume when listing to music etc, it also sounds much flater for music playback. Incall volume call quaity is poorer and lower than the Arc.

The main reason i got it though is camera and video tests.

Updating to 2.3.3 now

Posted by SKIBBE
Finaly running 2.3.3

Nice so far, I like the gallery/facebook thing, but it would be much better if the gallery opend everytime you clicked a image in the facebook app. The comment/like interface is way much better than the app it self, and you are limited to your own pictures (not beeing able to use it everywhere)

update: Just noticed that you see unread sms "1 new message" on the Lock Screen, that must be new?

So when do we get 2.3.4 that has been out for a few weeks already?
[ This Message was edited by: SKIBBE on 2011-06-01 12:37 ]

Posted by Gud
Skibbe: Yes, that is new. I was hoping to get more information on the lock-screen (like part of the message, like iOS).

Posted by SKIBBE
Mine just says "Nya meddelanden: 1"/"Obsv. samtal: 1" you can't click it to go directly to messages/or see part of it or calls

when i run handcent i always turn that off, you never know what a sms/mms can hold (and firends that don't know their limits)

I got some weird bug yesterday: at 6:30 alarm sounded, I pressed snooze and after that nothing happened... What's more, after I woke up half and hour later clock was still showing 6:30, but date was showing 29.5.
Did anyone else experience something like this? I thought I left alarm problems behind when I ditched X1...

Android version is 2.3.3, build is 145.

Hi and welcome to esato. Post #1 for you I see
What region and firmware version are you using? It could be a market region problem.
