Dude download CPU spy and see if your phone goes into deepsleep as it should. Just clear the stats and let the phone rest a couple of minutes to see it.

The battery will get better with several charge cycles. The arc is better than my x10 in terms of battery usage.

Hehe, at first I thought I have a problem when the battery only drop 1% after 7 hours with push mail running, texting and one call. But actually its ok.

I think arc is greaattt. I haven't found any negative point.

Posted by SKIBBE
did leave it out of the charger this night 100% down to 57% 10h read 3 sms: during the night 4.3% drop/h

will try cpu/spy

the preestat hade like 90% 245mhz 4% 1ghz, deepsleep was almost nothing/anything (don't remmeber)

had the phone idle for 5 minutes, no deepsleep

after how long is the deepsleep supose to activate? seems like my phone don't use it

I am back using the older x10 and the battery is great. Yesterday I used it for taking hundreds of photos on a day trip to Chester read loads of texts emails a few short calls and some internet plus shooting video and I still had 37% when I got home. Much stronger than the Arc perhaps the Arc needs an update.

Did you use the camera before that?
The other day I was playing with camera settings and after that through the night I lost 40% of battery (idle in airplane mode...) I did a soft reset and everything was back to normal.

Posted by SKIBBE
I use the camera everyday so i guess so, i cant reboot the phone after every camera use... that is stupid

okey rebooted, now the "deepsleep" has been activated for 42sec in a period of 20-30 mins.

will try turn off my syncs. Whatsapp/fb/gmail is turned off, will try do sync manualy once aday

Yeah Skibbe, camera is a really issue at the moment. If I leave it alone I can get 3 - 4 days out of the Arc, which is similar to my old X10, however as soon as I use the camera, bang - lucky to get 1 day.

I'm really hoping that as part of the Facebook and 2.3.3 update supposedly next week there are some behind the scenes tweaks to sort this sort of stuff out. It's all very well adding this lovely Facebook integration but please fix the bugs first!

Posted by SKIBBE
Can't be that hard to make the camera go OFF when you press Back. is there any app that can till the camera process and wich app/process in that case?

Posted by rickster2kuk
The only app I got to kind of work was "freememory" which kind of worked after I ran it, basically had to run it after using the cam to ensure it shut down. A lot of task killers don't pick up the cam because it's not a process as such.

Posted by SKIBBE
Will look it up, thanks

and on the sidenote, KUK means dick/penis in swedish

Posted by Bonovox
Maybe pressing force stop after using camera in application manager will help for now

Posted by Bonovox
Phone Arena has a camera comparison but Arc is stupidly not included See www.phonearena.com

is there anyway to not allow charging from usb connecter ???
i just take the pink one :">

Posted by Xajel
^^^

Yes there's, charge the battery to 100% then it will stop charging even if you connect it to the USB

seriously I'm curious about the reason for this !!

Sony's SmartAR Demoed Live
A new live-demo shows Sony's markerless object recognition system focusing on posters, tables, books, and coffee cups in lieu of the traditional AR card -- allowing it recognize multiple objects at once. Focusing on objects rather than markers allow augmented entities to interact more naturally with their environment.

Hi,

Just bought the arc from the O2 retail shop here in the UK.

Is it normal to have the Japanese and Chinese Keyboards preinstalled on the phone.

I also went on to SEUS and was offered the 2.3.3 update.

Thanks

Yeah Chinese, Japanese and maybe even Korean keyboards are normal on all the new FWs for xperia handsets.

Can anyone who's updated to the facebook/2.3.3 FW tell me, did you have to wipe the phone to do so?

Posted by se_dude
I flashed the Hong Kong firmware and got the facebook integration along with it. The flashed firmware will wipe all your data so make sure you back up everything before starting. The phone is extremely fas t now and pretty much all bugs have been taken care of. If you guys have any questions i can help .

How does the Gapless Playback work?

Posted by Ricky D
@se_dude Thanks for the info. Just realised that because I unlocked my bootloader I'll have to go through flashtool anyway so clean install is a given. I was wondering if SEUS will wipe though. I read the update was available OTA which usually means update rather than clean install.

sorry but another issue with battery live, and not liking it
yesterday it was at 100% pretty much all day. mainly played a few games on it, nothing heavy at all. was on about 70%-80% i think when i went to bed, yet 8hrs later the battery is flat as a pancake.
nothing at all, so having to recharge again.

i have not rooted or anything so timescape is still on, which i kinda like but would replace if a similar app is known.
am weary of rooting as not fully understanding benefits and how to's and seen conflict on if seus works or not.

why is it so rubbish?

Posted by Ricky D
@oioldman

With the rooting confusion reports are conflicting because some are unlocking the bootloader and some are just rooting the FW. The difference is unlocking the bootloader will stop access to SEUS and is irreversible. Rooting is reversible and doesn't do anything to stop SEUS working. If you find a how-to on rooting make sure it doesn't require unlocking the bootloader and you'll be fine. The benefits are that you'll have access to apps that give you more control over your system and you can remove 'dead weight' apps.

In terms of the battery life, I've been reading that not just the camera but possibly the gallery don't turn off properly when exited and keep running, killing the battery. It's possible that this is a problem with just those two features or perhaps it's something deeper and when a certain script is run it doesn't close properly. It's possible that a particular game accesses this system code or it could simply be that you've pressed home instead of back and put the game in the background rather than close it fully. The new firmware supposedly has a lot of fixes in it so you should check that out too.

I'm certain the fault is software related as people are getting such varied results with the battery and under different circumstances. I hope the fix is imminent.

You are 100% right. It has nothing to do with battery itself.

I had my Arc for 40 days without reboot (working like charm).
But with quite heavy usage I could only get 15 hours on battery.

Now I rebooted few days ago and to my surprise I get like 30 hours with moderate usage. Or even more.
Today through the night it was 100% ALL THE TIME, now 93%, however before it was able to eat 30% on standby.
It's definitely some processes in the background. I look at this and started to use Advanced Task Killer too to see the difference.

Posted by doministry
Today I used camera for some pics.
I use Advanced Task Killer to kill unused processes.
Battery loaded yesterday at 100% around 23 p.m.

Now 20 p.m. still 45% left. I used alot of calls and internet.

Battery can be definitely great on this phone.

Are there any changes to the calendar? I liked the latest version on the X10 and was hoping that version woyld turn up on the Arc after an upgrade. ...or is there a way of getting the X10 calendar app running on Arc?

Posted by rickster2kuk
@ Se_dude

The million dollar question is have they fixed the battery drain issue with using the camera and then it not shutting down properly when you close it.

I read at Xda from a member who upgraded that batt issue has been corrected.

Could you uploaded the files for me from SEUS directory? As I have unlocked my boot loader and unable to get access to SEUS.

Thanks

hello guys,

I've a question regarding updating the android version, do all of the data and applications got deleted upon updating? (just like Sony Ericsson's dumbphones)... I'm hesistant for updating the firmware , as if it all got deleted, it would definitely taking time to download all of the application again...

kindly advise, thanks

Posted by AndyD777
@fedex289

SEUS will give you two options, one to update the phone and retain all data and the other is a complete fresh install.

I hope this helps.

Thanks

Just updated mine via PC companion to 2.3.3.

Will take a while to work out what's been fixed, the first boot up always takes time for the phone to "settle in". I would be interested to see a complete fix list.

Timescape widget appears to have been fixed, it's more stable now (before it was doing my head in crashing all the time).

Camera issue (fingers crossed also seems to be fixed now) - taken a few photos and very little battery drain (compared to before) - It'll be a big thumbs up from me if this has been resolved.

Good news then & good for bringing out a quick update

Waiting for the update in Norway Hope the battery issue is taken care of

Posted by Bonovox
The x10 had a battery issue when it first came out too

Posted by Arne Anka
Some of the fixes are listed in the link below.

Among optimization and stability fixes and the new Facebook inside Xperia other features included are:

* Battery performance
* General software stability
* Wi-Fi stability
* HD Video recording performance (Xperia™ arc)
* Touch responsiveness

Hey all, could someone tell me the price of the Xperia Arc in India and some of the other gulf states? Out here in Oman, the dates are still tentative and prices are not forthcoming.

Posted by oioldman
thanks all for help with queries

will try the update to 2.3.3 and look at rooting

i did see something about sony giving use legit rooting access, maybe this will help me
don't wish to break a working phone, but happy to unbrand.

Posted by Dummaari
the battery seems improved.
the facebooks pics in the gallery is great.
wifi seems very stable.
responsiveness seems improved, but still i find slow in some areas. maybe coz its still unpdating the pics, contacts and things.

in general it loooks a great thing. will know more details after few days of usage.
