After 5 days of heavy usage I can say the following.
The Arc is by far the best phone I´ve ever had and in every aspect the best possible allrounder but....
battery life sucks dramatically. Today it lasted a mere 11 hours on average usage! That means basically you cant use all the great things on this phone because then you cant use it!

Is there any tipps on how to improve battery life? I read something about the Arc lasting a good 1 -2 days! Im nowhere near that....

The battery is strange sometimes.
Yesterday It run out of power around 2 a.m. beeing reloaded full in the morning (11 a.m.)
with my normal extesive.
So when I got back home I left it charging all night.
And today I unplugged it at 11, and - it was showing 100% for 4 hours
Now it's midnight and I have 55% still. I used it less today but still looks good.
Maybe it should be loaded for a longer time after it shows 100%?

But I agree, it's a great phone absolutely!!!
Now I see a reason why have chosen Android.

I have just downloaded this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3tZPH5my-0 in 720p to my Arc handset, and I must say, the colours are fantastic

another review:

http://ausdroid.net/2011/04/11/sony-ericsson-xperia-arc-review/

Very positive. Considering the person who reviewed it was hardly a fan of SE (cos of the x10).

Another review of the Arc:

http://www.mobilechoiceuk.com/Phone-review?product_id=858

I know this link below has nothing much to do with the Arc, but it's nice to hear that the Arc's display is mentioned in the same sentence as the retina display of the iphone 4.

Go to section [b]review, [b]and go to the sixth paragraph.

I think I found something about the Arc battery usage.
Looks like when you load the battery to 100% and leave it loading for another half an hour or more
it is lasting MUCH longer!
It happens to me to day again.
I unplugged the Arc at 12:30
Now 17:15 and the battery is 95%.

Got my misty silver Xperia Arc since 7th April.
My impression: HTC Desire Z is far better than Xperia Arc except the camera. It doesn't mean that the Desire Z camera is bad, it's good, but Arc simply better in this department only.

With almost the same apps installed on both devices, my Arc performs very slow, slower than Desire Z.
Opening an app took much times than Desire Z.
It is very very slow. So frustating.

I'm really disappointed with Xperia Arc.

One more thing: HTC Sense is better than SE's UXP.

I will stick to my Desire Z and buy the new HTC when available, may be the HTC Sensation.

I'm sorry SE, you're disappointing me again.

It is a very fast device just poorly built with crap battery

Posted by dancingfate
@ardian: dunno why, but I do compared the same apps with Desire Z (mostly Handcent SMS, Facebook, and Whatsapp).
@Bonovox: Battery of Arc is lasting longer than Desire Z thou...

Posted by se_dude
Seriously ,you must have had a f**ked up unit then. I have used the desire Z and though its miles faster than the X10, it doesnt put a scratch on the Arc.

Posted by justus333
MAybe it´s just a bad one you got? Mine is quite fast too and by the way, very well built!
Battery´s another story though.....

Posted by SE-Naz
Im really enjoying the Arc

Build is fine... Could be better, but no complaints...

Battery is average 2days which is fine by me...

Software is fine too... not had any slow downs...

Posted by doministry
Well that is strange, my Arc is really fast and snappy.
NEVER encountered any slowdown, using it for a week.

As for the battery read my previous post.

I was having quite average usage of the battery
but now I load it longer after it shows 100% and I am surprised
that by the end of the day my batt still has 55%.

Argh... Now that the HTC Sensation is official, can the Arc still be the one for me?!?!

Had the Desire before and REALLY liked it, made me a fan of HTC... I know the Sensation isnt as pretty as the Arc but will be be a better performer for longer?!?!

Even though the SE UI looks good, just what I need really, the new Sense looks great too!

I have seen a few videos of the Sensation, and yes it looks nice, and the new sense looks very polished too, but I am loving the Arc and can't see me changing this beauty for sometime yet.

I like you had a Desire before, and if I hadnt of bought the Arc then I may have seriously considered buying the Sensation, as its a worthy upgraded to the Desire.

Corny name for a phone Sensation

No physical buttons means no buy for me.

Such a shame HTC is going all capacitive.

If is going to stick with the physical buttons I guess I'll stick with

They might be a little late to the party, but you can be pretty sure will bring out a device with specs similar to the Sensation, but better looking, unlockable bootloader, faster updates (who would have thought ), better camera, etc...

In the mean time, I just ordered 2 Arc's from Handtec

Thats good to hear from a previous Desire owner... I'm bloody using a BB Curve due to work at the moment and its driving me crazy!

3G??? I wish!

How do you find the SE's UI compared to Sense? I really like parts of Sense but SE's launcher looks right up my street...

@Bonovox - Yeah, not the best of names... "Hey, look at my new sensation!"

@Hyper - Got a good point there, not really a capacitive fan myself... Definately prefer the physical but would be willing to try out the Sensations... There is so much great talk around the Arc that I'm really hoping your right about SE, could be such a great come back... Hopefully the next device will be like the P800 days!

Name one Android phone that has a long-lasting battlife...as one video review of Motorola Atrix which has 1900mAh, the person did said that the battery wasn't outstanding either.

Even though I like sliding keyboards I disagree, my Arc it super fast and responsive, the much larger screen makes typing on screen easy. It's also a pretty nice looking screen as well. HTC Sense is not important enough to make a difference for me. The Arc is sexy as heck to look at and it will even play games full screen on my TV via HDMI without a single stutter. There must have been something wrong with the one you have.

have used my arc for a few days now and all i can say is wow. this is hands down the best phone i've ever used. its so slick, never experienced any lag, even after downloading and installing quite a few apps, many at the same time, the phone never crashed or slowed down....i can say that the people who feel this phone is slower than others prob have a dud unit...even a friend with a nexus s says my arc is quicker...it has been a great few days with this phone and i'm really impressed. so much so that i told a couple friends and now they are getting one as well... they are coming from an iphone and noted that the experience is just as fluid if not more so than the iphone4. the only problem i have noticed with this phone is that the power button is pretty small...it gets quite hard to press sometimes... also, timescape doesn't seem to have the option to show emails no more...that seems a bit weird...the screen is amazing and hd photos just jump out at you...its the best looking phone by far and it can only get better once rooted and everyone is able to customize the crap out of it to suit their needs...this is a great success for SE...

Very surprising after read on you comment though. I guess it probably of region software version was difference one from Europe and HK (Mine saw HK videos was fine) also or maybe defected unit received somehow would you like try to flash new ROM first.

Is your Desire Z was official ROM or customized one?

btw, new Sense (I guess it right one, just saw it on EVO 3D at CTIA 2011 review) also impressed me as well, very cool futuristic and look intuitive one

Isnt the SPB 3d similar to the sense UI?

Samsung Galaxy Apollo is one such phone with Android that I have owned and lasts three days with heavy use. The Arc is defo fast but has poor plastics for its price imo and a battery that after a few charges never lasted the day. Was sad

Really? 3 Days?
I read on GSMarena people said that they worried about battery backup, some say it's frustating and hardly get 1 day....

Posted by dancingfate
My Desire Z is still in its original ROM, never rooted nor customizing ROM.
I compared both phones in almost the same conditions: ported all messages, emails, and Facebook, Whatsapp, and a lot of apps from Desire Z to Xperia Arc. I'm also using SPB Shell 3D in both phones.
And the result is as I wrote before.

Today I made the Arc reseted to its factory setting, deleted many SMS, re-install only some apps (not installing apps that took memories such as SPB Shell 3D, Google Earth, etc.), and it is now normal and super fast.

But I still worry if I have to install other apps and when my messages become large, Arc will be slower again.

PS: I didn't do the same to Desire Z, it still has many apps.

@doministry: i found ArcMedia, and the final fantasy mp4 lagged, so no need to even try some mkv's

@Tsepz_GP: qqplayer was not that good, even the preinstalled final fantasy mp4 video lagged

Guys, I accidentally deleted the Sony/// gallery widget that lets you scroll through the pic and vids right on the homepage. ANy idea where to find that again?
Thanks!

Just picked up today What Mobile magazine. They rated the Arc as Editors Choice and only real negative was battery life. Cannot post as its obviously a magazine.

Surely its just a long press on empty space on the homescreen and then add widget or similar?

It does seem to be getting positive reviews and write ups across the board... Regarding battery life, it sounds like its the same as similar devices on the market - so Desire HD, iPhone4 etc...

Basically needs a charge everynight and the preference would be to have an additional charger at the office... The same as it was when I had the Desire...

Really wanna play with a live model now!

Posted by justus333
I now went back to the stock launcher (was using Launcher Pro thus far) and battery life seems to be greatly improved!!!
Before 2 hours in standby would mean 10% less battery, now Im still on a 100%! Maybe the Launcher Pro was the battery hog?
Looking a lot better now....here´s hoping.....

apart from battery life, the Arc is an absolute stunner. Cant put it down even after a week. Even my IPhone 4 friends had to take a second and a third look...

Giving Play 3 stars and Arc 4.5 sounds to me about right.

I think Play is overrated, sure the concept is a good one but the implementation is short. I think it will sell however, and I hope SE develop on any success it has because I think the 2nd and 3rd generation Play will be fantastic.

Posted by Bonovox
It said in Mobile Choice the games were poor and low res. And it said downloading games was confusing. Oh well
