Yes,but is retina not just the pixels??

Sort of. With approximately 300 ppi at a distance of 12 inches (305 mm) from one's eye is the maximum amount of detail that the human retina can process according to Apple and hence the name "Retina Display". The technology used however is a TFT LCD of IPS type, which is said to provide better viewing angle and color reproduction.

all I know is that the Arc may just be the phone to bring me back to SE

Posted by Bonovox
Don't speak too soon

Posted by amnesia
If I'm being EXTRA picky.

I want the Arc in X10 white and the camera to be centered as it is in the X10.

At CES or by distribution chain - mention anything regarding the BT Watch to control this Arc?

What BT watch do you refer to ? BT watches in general or something more specific like LiveView, which is compatible with all SE android phone (Arc included) ?

BTW... For the photography lovers among us: The Arc I tried maxed out at ISO 4,000 (yes, that's four thousand!). Noise levels were roughly the same as my HTC Desire HD at 400 or 800. Seems like that backlit Exmor sensor is doing some kind of magic behind the scenes.

Wow.
You KNOW that captured my attention, Miz!

Yeah, it's quite impressive. Not sure it'll be like this in the retail units though. Or if the recorded data isn't true. All I can say is that the exif showed ISO 4,000

I presume that we can expect samples from you soon?

LiveView! That's what I was thinking about … thanks once again!!
Any news from SE to support OSX for FW updates (KIES has been mentioned on a few lessor boards for support - but no actual .dmg file for download). I CAN see Rogers Wireless here in Canada to pick this up.

maybe I am asking too much but mind to compare with some Exmor based compact?
I mean the Sony T series like TX5, TX9 etc....it seem quite unfair but since Arc is Exmor
we can see how far behind Arc's sensor perform.

but as I notice on my TX5, it don't perform very good due to the limitation on the size of the product.
if it is on par or slightly more noise than T series, I believe its quite good.

Well, standard Exmor-R was able to do up to 12 800 ISO so I think 4 000 for mobile version isn`t impossible.

How big was the file size (assuming you used the 8mp resolution)?

it sure is time that SE would make an OSX SEUS

Posted by marcink
From what I've seen so far, Arc's and Hallons photos will look decent at best, because of SE's agressive noise reduction. Waiting for pixel to pixel comparision with n8. seems fair, if n8 is 12 mp and doesn't use anything like exmor-r.

I took some shots for work (at Mobil), so they're not at my personal computer right now, but I think my boss will publish them today or tomorrow. The two brief video clips I recorded with the Arc were published today, as you can see from the link above.

I'm not sure anyone ask this already, I just want to know how light sources at the back work?
Do we have to turn it on-off manually like crappy one on X10?
And how about flash fired length? (I'm not sure if this correct word, sorry my English)
(I heard iPhone 4 is something about a bit less 2 meters with their LED-Flash can produce as well as Samsung Wave)
About the HD 720p video recording, is Continuous Focus still present, because I don't see any mention about it at first page?

Thanks for answer )

@HxH i do not now but from the few videos i have seen there have been some kind of "auto flash button" in the camera meny/options. and LED-flashes is not that good in general in my opinion

At the back of the Arc, between the text HD and Xperia there is a small hole, which is the noise cancellation mic if that's what you was wondering.

Posted by Xajel
^^^

I saw a video for a presenter, he was showing the phone, and when he got to this microphone he mentioned it as a video capture microphone... I dont recall he mention anything about noise cancelling.. but I'm not sure about that...

Thanks for lighten up me

Can someone with an arc (mizzle or rog ) try out the digitizer? Download the app "Multitouch Visible Test" to test it. Really hope SE choose a good one this time

Here's the ISO 4,000 shot:
http://www.esato.com/phonephotos/viewphotos.php?pid=34483

Please note that it's a VERY EARLY sample and it is only meant to show the noise levels and nothing else!! The quality is subject to improve in future releases.

Glad they changed the flash option which was very poorly thought out in the x10 menus. Hopefully brighter flash too. Is it dual led??

Posted by rikken
Seems to be a single Hope it is at least on par with the one on the x10 mini which is much better than the one on the x10.

New blog post on the product blog

* The CPU and GPU specs are: MSM8255 at 1 GHz with Adreno 205.
* The music player does have an equalizer, my current software has 10 different genre based presets.
* It does not have a front facing camera.
* Mediascape is removed in its earlier form and has changed into a customizable widget based “media pane” (as shown briefly in the video)
* It’s too early to officially give detailed comments around specific later Android versions for XperiaTM arc during its lifecycle but the changes we have made to our way of working with Android puts us in a good position to make sure that Xperia arc will get later versions in a timely manner.
* I’ve seen articles around higher numbers than 2.3 being seen in the display of Xperia arc phones – As I have been informed that is due to a misconfiguration in some samples and nothing to get too excited about really, sorry.
* It does have two microphones which will be used for noise suppression during phone calls.
* The camera LED flash is possible to put in four different modes; Auto, Fill-flash, Red-eye Reduction & Off.
* It does have full multi touch support, I just tried a similar multi touch test app as I did in the video on the X10 and at least in that app it accepts 4 simultaneous touch points without any issues with X- and Y-axis or such things. I will try to get confirmation on final specs in regards to multi touch.
* It does support wi-fi up to the 802.11n mode.

Yep, flash fired.

The photo samples from www.mobil.nu are downsized. Let me know if you want them in full res.

Seems the WB or something is not correct on most of the pictures (its like a white haze on most of them). Other than that, for a pre-production unit they look pretty fine to me.

Of course want them) If you can upload it we say thank you!
And if it possible please upload original video from ARC. Youtube compressed pretty strong.

If it is a 2mpx shot then the release product quality wil be 4 times better than that, without set up.

Here is a low light sample video with probably one of the most common subjects

http://www.se-first.com/Xperi[....]mple-low-light-video-shot.html

Posted by tyko
The video is pretty good, smooth. The photos however are not as good as I was was hoping for, but still good enough. http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_xperia_arc-review-553p4.php
It still pre-release software so things could get better.

Posted by Legen
what about the usb-to-go feature? how come nobody is talking about it?

Posted by io_bg
Yes, Mizzle, full-sized pics would be great to have

GSM Arean'a photo comparing tool

comparing Nokia N8, SE Satio and the Xperia Arc... again the Arc still in prototype software...

http://www.gsmarena.com/piccm[....]52&idPhone2=2683&idPhone3=3619

Posted by Bonovox
Not being funny but why do a comparison when one is a prototype

Posted by kewsvnet

even in prototype stage...i find the photos from arc to be sharper and less noisy than iphone4 which uses a backlit sensor as well..and i also thought that photos from arc are sharper than nokia's n8

these are just my personal opinions! so i think it has a pretty decent camera in it....really hope the mini and vivaz successors get the same camera module!!!

Posted by kewsvnet
btw very happy to read this about the arc

"Also, the music player has grown an equalizer, which is a common complaint in some droids."

in http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_[....]atest_xperia_arc-news-2208.php

nice to see putting more focus on the media
