Hi, just got this from another forum:

4) Is there an Auto-Brightness function? (thanks to Cradle)
Yes. To activate, place a Power Control widget on your home screen and you should see a sunlight button on the right. Press that to toggle between the backlight mode. The order of the mode is as follows: Minimum -> Auto -> Maximum. If you try to manually adjust the backlight brightness after setting it to 'Auto', 'Auto brightness" will be disabled.

just to share

The Arc has an ambient light Sensor. The only issue is that its too slow in adjusting the brightness.

My Arc is in my hands.
Great phone. I will stay with it for the long time probably yeah.

More tomorrow because I want to play with it and I lost my PC powercord. But night shots are very very good, never seen that on good on phone.
Like it very much.

Just been testing the audio quality on the Arc with me IE6's and the sound is great... Really love it... Better then the iPhone 4 and Galaxy S

Guys I recommend MoboPlayer... Very good video player...

Nice to hear welcome back to SE! (All the wp6 guys at xda seems to have switched to android also. Imo android is more like wp6 than wp7 anyway, customize ftw! )

Got my arc today... Brilliant phone...however cant help but think the keyboard on my hd7 is much better than the keyboard on the arc

Posted by Ratti3
I decided install the screen protector that came in the box on top of the one already applied.

It turns out the one in the box in smaller than the installed one.

I can't see any differences on the display after applying it, and the sensitivity seems fine.

Posted by Bonovox
The difference in sensitivity is minimal

Posted by ashyk36
Is the keyboard on the arc a stock android keyboard or a sony ericsson 1?

Posted by Bonovox
Same as x10 keyboard

Posted by ashyk36
Is there no way of getting the original android keyboard?

Posted by Bonovox
Not sure maybe it can be downloaded from market

Posted by dibdin
Whats wrong with the keyboard exactly?

Posted by Bonovox
I think it is easy to use although I do keep hitting the full stop key at the wrong time too often. I keep ending up with full stops in messages at the wrong part

Posted by ashyk36
Its nowhere near as good as my hd7. Not accurate. However when I had my x10 I couldnt use the sony ericsson keyboard so I used the original keyboard...however the arc doesnt have the option

Posted by SE-Naz
@ashyk36

Install an alternative keyboard of your choice... and use it...

I'm finding it fine... May give the gingerbread keyboard a chance too...

Posted by ashyk36
How do you get the gingerbread keyboard???

Posted by ashyk36
Or is this the gingerbread 1 im using now??

Posted by esoqq
I know it's not free, but I've been using the Flext9 keyboard for the last couple of weeks on the X10 and now Arc and I would hate to go back to a normal keyboard now. Four different input methods - dictation, swiping and handwriting recognition as well as a "normal" keyboard. The dictation is very accurate in a quiet environment but I generally use the swipe method. It's as good as it sounds in this review:

http://www.reghardware.com/2011/03/01/app_of_week_android_flext9/

It's especially smooth on Arc.

Posted by SE-Naz
@ashyk36

That is the keyboard

Gingerbread is available from xda forum... do a google search... you will find many sources

Posted by SKIBBE
Been using Smart Keyboard PRO for almost a year now, no dictonary or word prediction. i type 95% of my text/sms in landscape mode. using it as a normal qwerty in other words

Posted by djin
@ashyk36,

Try out swype beta, their newer version is pretty good.

Posted by Ricky D
Here is the keyboard from CM7 RC4 2.3.3. I'm pretty certain it's the stock Gingerbread keyboard, but I don't know for certain as I've never seen the stock for my own comparison.

fixed

I was impressed that the site actually used fine calipers to check the phone's real dimensions.

Well I like the stock keyboard, even though its not quite on a par with the HTC keyboard that is on the Desire, I have no qualms.

Posted by doministry
Still no time to write anything because I'm in rush.
But Yesterday at 2am I went to sleep and my phone was about 25% battery life.
Put it on flightmode, in the morning 9am the phone was dead.
First day, I hope it will settle.

The light sensor is here but can I turn this off?
I hate it.

I have the question - where do I put pictures from email for instance
to have them displayed in the gallery???

You can put it wherever you want, the gallery app (and the music app) will search all folders on the SD card for images and display them by folder.

If you want to hide a folder from the media apps put a blank file in that particular folder named ".nomedia" and android won't see any media files inside as media files.

The problem is I put a picture in Media folder and IT'S not displayed in Media gallery.

EDIT:
It's there just took a while to get it, fine.

I just saw this phone being sold by a member of a selling/buying site of DR. The guy brings it to DR just for ~£489

I don't know if the Arc works the same way as the X10 but I would not recommend to add a .nomedia file to any folder. After the X10 read the folder (containing the .nomedia file) it was indexed as empty and subsequently wiped all images from that folder.

@SKIBBE

Hur går det med reklamationen? Kommer du få en ny skickad så fort de får in den eller? Riktigt tråkigt när du fått gå och vänta en hel helg också

Posted by Xajel
From waiting, I'm in a mood of being dead

Posted by vegetaleb
So no obvious hardware or software problems so far?
No earpiece problem a la c905?

Posted by doministry
One has to be very careful with the speaker, it's easy to cover this with ear and not hear anything.
The phone is so cool. I promise promise I will report.

Must say though still responsivness of WindowsPhone7 is still unmatched.

Update on battery use

-On my fourth battery charge, and after 4h 16m => it is still on 100%
(with 5 min display and talk time and synch services on with gmail/whatsapp)

- The third charge lasted for 3 days with plenty of usage (music, bluetooth, wifi, hdmi , alls synchs on, emailing etc)

- The first 2 charges lasted between 8 and 10 hours

Cheers

Posted by SKIBBE

@sambouka

Is it really that great??
Then Arc is a must buy for me!!!
TQ for a great battery life!!!

Posted by justus333
2 little questions from a soon to be "arcoholic":

- do you prefer the stock launcher to Launcher pro, or ADW?
- has anyone uses the ant functionality, eg running, counting the heart frequence while tracking?

Posted by >500
what does the battery status for the display % read? I remember seeing a photo back in prototype status of an Arc which stated it was only using 6% or something of battery, which I thought was great!

What does it use in retail though? I think its under phone status or whats using the battery or whatever...

Posted by Xajel
Even thought I did not get the Arc yet ( dealer dealy )...

Ladies and gentlemen, I present you

Xperia Arc : The Manual

and no this is not the quick manual, and yes this is the full manual with 100+ pages

and yes this is for two kinds of peoples
1- peoples who actually read the manual.
2- peoples who just want to have it

Posted by doministry
So far so good.

Guys did SonyEricsson backup/restore app disappear? I could only find Google server based backup. Let me know.

Posted by unknown_x
Yes, it doesn't work on GB, that's why they told us to use an alternative Backup app for the x10 as soon as the update comes.

Posted by SE-Naz
@doministry

There are many backup apps in the Market... Try this My Backup (Pro version too)

Posted by Bonovox
This so called reality display not using much battery was a lie. Looking at battery useage and display shows the highest usage. When SE showed us the display only using 6% it was a lie.

Posted by SE-Naz
A display of this quality will eat battery for sure...

So far I am getting 2days of usage on average...
