+1 very nice & the back of the midnight blue one does not stick finger prints too badly. And do not judge it by a dummy model as it's not real

Has anyone found any good cases for the handset yet? Also has anyone applied the screen protector that was included in the box?

Posted by Bonovox
No not looked for a case yet and as for screen protectors well I am useless putting them on. I always end up with bubbles. I am still only having one issue. After connecting my phone to pc and unmounting the card all my album art is gone again. Does anyone know why this might be happening?? Everything else is fine just album art vanishes each time.

Strange enough, there are less options available for stills than videos. For instance, you cant choose motive or image stabilization in photo mode but for videos you can. Or am I missing something here?

You are, slide the left menu to the right and you will see the image stabilization...

I don't know what do you mean with "motive"

ok, i've now ordered my silver arc...can't wait for it to arrive...haven't been this excited about a phone since the announcement of the x10! i still love my x10 right now, but after reading all the good things ppl have to say about the arc i decided to upgrade as well...i think this year will be a great year for SE...

Posted by dibdin
I am still using the on screen protector, but in due course I will look for a more durable one like a Martin Fields or something.

Well its my third day of owning this lovely device, and I am just loving this phone. So pleased I went with the Arc, as at one point it was between the lg optimus black, Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy S2 and yes the iphone 4.

Posted by SKIBBE
Will get my Misty Silver tomorrow! now i am mostly hungover and need to get to work. sucks working weekends only.

Posted by Mr.BJ
I'm getting mine tomorrow and i cant wait anymore .
Thank you SE for bringing me back home .

Posted by Bonovox
@dibdin good job you never went for Nexus S. No expandable memory and screen is not scratch resistant like the Galaxy S is.

Hi everyone!

2 questions !

Is the Xperia Arc now considered to be the best Sony Ericsson phone on the UK market?

and anyone know when it is coming to _Vodafone_?

I can upgrade via the internet and am thinking what to do. I use a Nexus One and do like it!

I can wait and see what the new iPhone will bring, or check out Sony Ericsson Play or Arc.

I do have a Galaxy Tablet and a Nintendo 3DS for games!

I would as far as to say its the best phone on the market but then I would say that as I have an Arc.

Posted by Bonovox
Why do you just not call Vodafone up ask them. Simple. As far as the Arc is concerned. Well, I have been very fussy had more phones than I can remember. Also had many problems with phones. Tried all manufacturers over the years but I always come back to SE. Why?? Cos I love them best and they have turned around to come better. For ages I been waiting for something new and of quality from SE and I have now found it in the Arc. It has the perfect design and form. Has beautiful screen with an excellent camera. Also is has the best Android experience so far which is lightning fast. Its the perfect all rounder for me. I for one do not plan on selling it. The only thing I so far find from perfect is the battery life. Whilst not as bad as Desire HD its the same as it was when x10 first arrived but with future updates it will improve as did the x10 battery. Do not let that put you off cos the battery like most Android phones is enough to last the day

Could someone with Arc try playing video using rock player at hardware mode? I'm mostly interested in 720p .mkv file. I ask cause I can't find any definite answer about what does hardware mode allow on rock player and I wouldn't want to re-encode my movies from .mkv to .mp4. Thanks in advance

BTW, after reading your impressions and few available reviews I can't wait to get my hands on this piece of art Still can't decide whether to buy it right now or to wait for few weeks to see what will people think about it after using it for longer period of time.

Are you using SE MediaGo? I had this problem with X10 but after transfering all music via MediaGo the album art was there to stay.

Is it curve? Looks so flat to me.....

Hi Bonovox

Why do you just not call Vodafone up ask them.

Woo! Hadn't thought of that!

Seriously, I have been hanging on for too long this morning for them to pick up, and wanted to see if any esato members got theirs through Vodafone. They might have then said something about any Vodafone customisations.

Battery just about lasts a day with my Nexus One.

How do people perceive the music quality?

I sort of want the Arc, but the audio quality needs to be good, and based on gsmarena's review, it is not. They did say they're going to try another handset to confirm, but so far they haven't.

Posted by HYPER-X10
What concerns you about the GSM Arena review?

Posted by Bonovox
Audio quality with the right headphones is very good

Posted by Xajel
Too bad for me

I called the dealer just to make every thing is okay as they told me before 1 month that Arc will be available in late March

1 month before they said 1st week of April
2-3 weeks before they said 2nd week of April

and I called them today and they said it will be delayed as their order was cancelled and they have to make another order.

now they're talking about late April or early May !!!

(some bad word here) they do this when I want to buy new phone and it is Android and it is Arc !!

Hi,

Can someone please let me know how to change the ISO settings on the camera? I know we had pictures posted at various iso levels, however cannot find it in any of the settings!

Thanks

Posted by NightBlade
i think the ISO set depends on the "scene" you're using (i.e. twilight, sport etc.)

@djin multi touch on Arc is the smoothest and most fluid I have used. Really excellent. With all the new added features and miles better performance its certainly a big step up from x10.

Thanks. Glad to hear that

There was a time GSMArena was my goto site for phone reviews, lately though their reviews have been very formulaic&trite. PhoneArena actually has more in-depth & experiential articles very useful for people who want to know how the phone actually handles.

I still read GMSArena's stuff since they cover quite a number of handsets & have useful stats but I no longer depend on it that much as far as choosing a phone is concerned.

That said, no review is going to match dropping by a shop & having the salespeeps play an MP3 track or just demoing an FM station. Firsthand is still the best , specially if it's audio.

Hi!

please can someone tell me about the email client on the Arc!

My Nexus One has a separate yellow and white icon for Email which I use for Exchange Server email. It also has a another icon for GMail with a red coloured M !

The Galaxy Tablet has a different way! Please can someone tell me what the Arc has?

Off to search for piccies on the net.

I do wish it had ISO settings though. How would I know what ISO it is using?? My god I just used Media Go! software for first time as I never bothered before. Talk about slow And what is it with Media Go! cos my pc is a quad with 5 gig of ram. Yet Media Go! pushed my CPU upto 84%. WTF??

I find the sound quality on the Arc much better through headphones and on speaker compared to both iPhone 4 and LG Optimus 2X.

The sound is louder and clearer. The only downside is that the plug is on the side. Why did you do that to me SE?
There is a reason every other handset has the plug on top.

I find that the battery doesnt last much, but I am on my second charge, and I believe that it will get better.

Rockplayer doesnt support hardware decoding on Arc, I believe. SW decoding works fine, and both picture and sound is vivid and good. Much better than iPhone 4. The downside with software decoding is battery drainage.

I believe MediaGo analyses every single song in your Library for mood (sense me) You can probably disable this feature somewhere in the settings.

That is why SE supplied it with the "L" shape plug. (did they?)

So much to learn with Android. My battery runs out after 8-10 hours. Been using the unit pretty much but I guess its all the programs that refreshes too often... Found out that my mail checked every 15 minutes... Now I have turned pretty much to manual refresh. Lets see if it helps... Screen consumsion 57% ... Guess I need to let it bee for a while...

My screen consumption was even higher than that...in the 80s at one point. Its my first experience of gingerbread and I am really noticing the difference.

My battery drained completely in 6 hours as I played with it a lot! I did the following the next morning after charging it fully:-
1. Put the power control widget on my homescreen. Setoff wifi and put the display brightness at the middle setting (around 40%). Tap the brightness level on this widget again if I want to see multimedia at 100% brightness, then turn it back down once I am done with. If using wifi I also suggest going in the wifi settings and set it to turn off when the display goes in standby.
2. In accounts and sync I left it on auto. However I only selected gmail and unchecked contacts, calendar, & picasa.
3. In the gmail app settings in "Labels" I only sync the inbox and the sent items. I set the number of days to 2.
4. Downloaded the free app "Airplane autoswitch" to automatically put the phone in airplane mode (turn off all signals) during night time when sleeping. This reduces the battery drain at night time when the phone is idle.
5. Set the phone's mobile network to "GSM only". This is usually fine for normal browsing and if you plan to do some downloading/streaming then you can revert back to the original settings.
6. You can also turn off data traffic (use the widget for this) when the phone is not in use.

I did the first 5 steps and I then got drained the battery by 35% in 6 hours of normal usage. A big improvement compared to before. However if you are using a big smartphone you must also make sure you charge your phone every day

Mine did as well the first two charges, then following the third:
60% after 1day and 11 hours with all synchs on (gmail, whatsapp, facebook...)
I say wow !

I accually dont use gmail. I only use the normal mail...
No need for it to refresh every 15 min.
I guess it will get better after a few more charges.

Posted by SKIBBE
ohh, i am about to convert>transfer all my mails to gmail. but it's a pain in the ass and takes alot of time, so i tend to push it forward but i must do it soon. so much easier to use the gmail client.

I never realised that on Android after 4 sms messages it converts to mms I sent a series of long messages to my brother & they came up on my billing as mms Not doing that again. I find that annoying. Is there anyway of over riding this??

Posted by djin
Thats strange, I have desire, and on that the 6th sms is converted to mms, and a little text pops up saying converting to mms..

Posted by Bonovox
Well I looked on Market and there is something called Handcent which can over ride it. But I think its crap. Just have to be careful from now on. I think Google should sort this issue out.

Gagging to get back to Android, BB is killing me... The Arc is the one, SE have got me with the design... Gonna definitely check one out in a store when I can, looks like SE have done well on the UI overlay side of things too...

Upgrade is about three months I think...
