@Bonovox as soon as you send the text they appear as images (atleast in handcent) and now adays handcent has emoji smilies or what it's called, i seldom use them thou, takes to long to browse.

@Tsepz_GP okey, i never used the T9, i acctualy use the qwerty without word prediction/t9 just as a plain keybord, suits me best.

I am a fan of the midnight blue one so far myself.

has anyone here had a hold and feel of xperia arc in silver and/or blue?

I'm interested in knowing what the quality of the finish is like on both (I read from the designer it's sort of sandblasted), whether the blue is very noticably blue or it is so dark it almost looks black except in certain light and also if the blue finish is even or gradient like the X8.

I've looked at review pics and officialy pics but can't really tell.

Any answers to these questions will help me decide which to buy.

Posted by titus1
The shiny backcover on Neo and Pro is okay. But I wish SE put the same finish on Arc like the one on Black X10.

Posted by SKIBBE
The white x10 is slipery :S but it does shine compared to my black x10

I hope no Sony Ericsson phones will be delayed cos of Japanese earthquake Some Sony factories have closed. have said all Xperia phones in 2011 will have HD voice capability which will hopefully mean a better ear piece in the Arc & others But some reviews have stated the Arc has very cheap plastic feel to it

Most of the feedback I have read and videos that I have send in regards to the general build quality and feel of the phone has been very positive. Untill you have one in the palm of your hands your never going to be quite sure.

EDIT:

Tracey&Matt and phonearena, who I have always found to pretty much spot on when it comes to giving their honest opinions on the very latest handsets, praise the Arc's build quality and feel, and Matt said even though it is made of plastic it doesn't feel plasticky.

Posted by Bonovox
Now,that's plain English. Even though made of plastic does not feel plasticky I do wish made their top end handsets with metal or whatever is better than plastic

I agree, but if they use high quality material then that will obviously reflect in the price, which is not good news for us the consumer.

If SE used aluminium the price would reflect the price the consumer is paying more like especially sim free.

As for contracts phones like the DHD which aluminium made phone can be had free on a £35 a month contract easily just the same as when the X10 came out only difference one is plastic the other is metal and of course one feels like quality as oppose to the other.

Have you actually held the Arc in your hand?? If not maybe you should reserve judgement untill you have.

More than 90% of manufacturing is made in China. The rest 10% is spread out thru the world.

Posted by Bonovox
Yes,I know that but I thought it still may affect things on Sony side.

Posted by goldenface
I read that three manufacturing plants have been closed. One plant making memory cards has being affected.

I have just seen this regarding the Silver Arc in the UK

CPWTweets RT @SonyEricssonUK: The Misty Silver Xperia ARC will be exclusive to The Carphone Warehouse in the UK from launch and the month of April

Posted by Ricky D
I was expecting silver to be exclusive to one provider in the UK. Either way expansys usually gets it's hands on some and I'll probably buy from a Chinese retailer instead of waiting till I'm back in the UK.

Arc is currently 4,630yuan on expansys.cn (approx GBP435) but nowhere in the world I've seen has silver arc listed yet.

I'm sure we won't but I really hope we aren't seeing a similar situation to the piePhone white seeing light nearly a year after the black.

Posted by dibdin
I think we will see the Misty Silver verision much more freely available a few weeks after the Midnight Blue is released.

As luck has it, my preference is for the Midnight Blue anyway.

Less finger prints

I quite like this demo of the Arc in the latter part of this video.

The Arc fares well against the super AMOLED in these pics.

Why does the plastic not feel like plastic like all other SE plastic phones??

Posted by mriley
I agree they shouldn't put that kind on plastic on a phone with such a high price in the market, the back just looks like a slippery finger-print magnet

Posted by Bonovox
All new Xperia phones have horrible glossy black plastic which attracts finger prints & gets dirt stuck in gaps between the screen & around it. They get soiled easy.

Posted by dibdin
Of course this applys to The Midnight Blue not the Misty Silver.

EDIT:

It's not just Sony Ericsson though whose high end phones are of plastic build....what about Samsung and LG for example.

really like that it shows everything on tv that is displayed in the phone.
still curios if other video players will be able to output 720p or is it always 720p.

Posted by dibdin
Anyone have any idea when where likely to see any reviews for the Arc at all?

Posted by dibdin
Cloves price of the Arc has dropped from £420 to £408 when looking on their site earlier today.

I have pre ordered a Neo for £369 I prefer it to the Arc

Posted by norbi_nw
just read a review about the arc. Ok phone, but the camera... well it sucks. As usual on SE phones.. The white courtain is back again in this phone (as was on the K810). http://hi-tech.mail.ru/review/misc/SE_Xperia_arc-rev.html
Pretty cool, but pity for the camera. And that backlit sensor: is a huuuuge gimmick.

Just saw this video taken with an Arc which looks to be taken at some kind of music event and really not impressed with that sound quality listen to it!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cu0vTkK6how

Wondering if its the same with the consumer released Arc if so thats not good at all.

I was at a huge party in Prague Czech Republic a couple weeks ago and the video footage and sound in particular I took is much better than that.

Oh come on,even my expensive digital camera distorts at loud concerts with video It's called 'clipping' of the bass. Mobile phones will not have powerful microphones to pick up perfect sounds at a loud concert

Nothing wrong with that at all.

And.....The Arc wipes the floor with the Desire HD, Much better photo's and videos, I've had a Desire HD it was crap so i got rid of it.

He's just got it in for this phone full stop!

All his comments regarding the Arc are always of a negative nature and he's just looking to slag this phone off at every opportunity.

Hahaha f**k off my camera and even DHD takes better than that. That video taken with an Arc is complete shit!

@Toney_Ericsson,do you really have to swear

From the latest videos i can see that the overal speed has been increased A LOT, it's matching the SGSII speed shown on youtube at the moment or even faster, obviously heavy 3d games will run faster on the SGSII but i'm very happy with the final perfomance.

Talking about the latest reviews, i find out some interesting stuff:

-The screen is really good, better than super Amoled and at the same level than Retina display in front view, but loosing in viewing angles. With the no-air-gap screen the screen visibility in sunny days must be outstanding. This is very good

-The screen with its "real multitouch" supporting up to 32 points is something we will notice compared to the x10.

-It's the best looking Android phone i've ever seen ...but we know this from day 1 hahaha

-The ROM is 512Mb and not 320Mb, we have 320Mb free, this makes me happy because having 320Mb is bullshit.

Guess you were right @Bonovox...

SONY ERICSSON STATEMENT, 17 March 2011 - Sony Ericsson is closely following the situation in Japan and our thoughts go out to those affected by this tragic event. The safety of our employees remains the highest priority. We have approximately 1100 employees (including consultants) at two offices in Tokyo, and we can confirm that no employees have been injured, and that there is no major damage to our offices.

The affected area in northern Japan supplies a large portion of the world’s electronics industry with components, and the current situation will impact Sony Ericsson’s business.

As part of our business continuity plan, we are in contact with all our key suppliers in the region and we are identifying the possible relocation of certain component manufacturing, and looking at secondary sources of supply. Although the full impact of the current situation on our business will take additional time to assess, Sony Ericsson anticipates disruption to its supply chain operations.

We continue to monitor our supplier situation daily, in real time, and we will keep our operator and retail customers informed about the status of their specific supply.

We will continue to update our communications as we learn more.
