So we'll see at begin 2012 already the new SONY phones... I didn't understand why you said before Q3...

That's actually awesome imho, that see through area would make for an excellent notification LED, no matter what angle of the phone you're looking at you will always see the notification.
I hope there's a black one though.

Let me explain again. Q1-Q2 2012 Sony will be selling Sony Ericsson developed phones in the market as SONY products. Like the Nozomi right here.
Q3 2012 the first indigeniously developed SONY handsets will go on sale which have nothing to do with Ericsson but are 100% Sony products.

Very nice design - no physical buttons apart from what looks like three soft buttons on the strip below the screen.

I dont like how you present your own guesses as facts all the time. I have read the same sources you have and it was not as clear as you make it out to be. You pretend to be a insider or something, please stop. Just admit your guesses are as good as any at this point

Surely they have volume keys on the side???

I can't believe I was waiting for this. When will the torment that is the Satio's software end??

Thanks, now I understand.
I can't wait to have "Nozomi" in hands. I love this design!!!

Really? I find the design a bit bland. Very bland, actually.
But then again, these are only spy pics.

That is an interesting solution, ie, to be able to see missed calls/message notifications irrespective of how the phone is lying on a surface. Quite neat.
I don't see any volume buttons on this thing, maybe it is the angle but there doesn't seem to be any which would be a bad move on SE's part.

The back is nicer than the front. The front bar should light up in a full block instead of this segmented 3 light thing which is hideous. Also the front bar should be separate from the buttons . I don't like this at all.
The SE logo on the back looks like it is a sticker (or photoshopped on) which lends weight to the Sony rebranding.
The back is nice though.
So a leak like this usually means an imminent announcement. Anybody? Either that or some r&d guy has just been told his centre is closing down and he's not being relocated to Sony Japan.

I really like the look of this... The design is great imho. Sure it may have similar lines to the WM HTC phone some one posted earlier, but this is much more refined and 'modern'. Looks like a very 'Sony' design imo (ie, very japanese, especially in that colour)

erm.. are they markers above the suggested buttons for what might be light up touch sensitive spots a la Galaxy Prime??

Super disappointed by the processor......We all knew that it was coming, but inside me,i kind of hoped Sony would change the processor, before release.Of course, this product wont be announced till CES/MWC and release sometime in Q1,so there is still time for some changes. It is really a shame, cause this phone will compete with the likes of galaxy s3,sensation sucessor, some motorola devices,etc...Sony definately needs to step their game up,unless they want to be eaten alive by competition.

Looks elegant with notification lamp (probably).
So, somebody said that Nozomi will be branded as Sony and as we know that later, all Sony phone can be integrated with laptop, tablet, etc. The question is, can Nozomi be integrated to? Be cause it's not made by Sony. And the next question is what kind of integration that Sony has promised to us?
Posted by HxH
I hope that processor is used under development product, not release one.
Why? because it will very late to market after first Sensation was introduced in April 2010 and only Qualcomm's CPU is very dated architecture Cortex A8. Even worse because 28nm Krait is still Cortex A8 based structure as well, so I won't expect any good performer when compare to other competitors in market.

Although it doesn't show the depth, it looks very thin from how the guy is holding it actually...
So are the 3 physically buttons on the see through strip? Or are they above on the black area between the see through strip and the screen? The icons are on the strip, so that would make sense but then they are quite far from the screen no? Was really hoping SE would adapt to full touch sensitive buttons, makes using the interface much nicer. Also surely it will be realised on ICS which uses no buttons? So it seems a bit strange...
Android 2.3.5 is interesting to see as well how they've changed the look slightly, like the contact and phone icons have changed and the battery and time are on the left side and no longer the right...

maybe that's not the buttons..probably just the signs..so the user can use it easier

I like the design. It's not a fresh one but its still good enough. Any news about the camera? Is it a 12mp shooter?
Posted by goldenface
I'm loving the simple minimalist design and the led's make it look very high tech. It also looks very thin from the pictures 7-9mm?
Posted by adsada
I can't see a grove which would allow the battery cover to come off, so could this be an iPhone style, non-removable battery? If it is already following the suit of micro SIM and no SD card port?
Posted by moogoo
i am disappointed there is no xenon flash or at least a double LED that can be used as a flash and not simply a photo light. photo light is uber lame for a flagship phone.
I like the design though. it's very clean, sleak, and modern. i like the LED light bar for front and back. I'm looking forward to more leaks and hopefully some video walkthrough sooooooooon!
I've only had my x10 for 2 years, but i'm ready for an upgrade. just need to save up. anybody want to buy a used x10?

What's the bar next to the led flash? Looks like it could be xenon to me.

More likely to be a speaker aperture, yes I agree that Xenon would have been great but at the same time I guess they're wanting to keep the thickness to an absolute minimum.
Was there not another variation of this phone called Aoba? May be it's just a market variation.
Posted by Platia1
The battery notifications etc are on the left because the phone is on Hebrew language, which reads right to left.
When a font like this is chosen, Android pretty much flips the entire interface.
I don't think those dots are touch sensitive keys, theres actually another dot between the left and the middle key everyone missed.

OK, so the camera will at least be 12 MP. Now, Sony, put a proper flash, please.

I want to learn how you were able to judge the quality of a cameraphone by just looking at a small image?
4000 horizontal pixels means that the camera sensor is a 12mp one, Satio had 4000x3000 pixels resolution. the design reminds me of HTC Touch Diamond but the colours are very Japanese style (which i prefer over than the european/american style), and the design matched blue LEDs gave it more elegance, just like Nightblade we sure hoped it had xenon flash so if Sony can still do something about it i hope they do it before Nozomi is officially announced
Posted by moogoo
those camera samples aren't even worth mentioning...
sample photos can be so misleading since photos look poor or incredible based on the photographer, lighting, etc...
sample photos like those posted aren't even worth considering to gauge camera picture quality. more so just to figure out the 12mp sensor. i hope they put a somewhat decent flash on it. an LED light would be disappointing. It was fine on a small candybar feature phone, but on a smartphone, i need some kind of bright flash. LED light is just not enough for a decent picture in low light (of course i haven't experienced taking pictures with an exmor sensor).

im in love with the LED strip.
Kinda miss my W980
Posted by Ricky D
I miss my T650 too with the light notification strip, but on the T650 it was implemented in a really classy flush and thin strip and lit by 1 LED at each end. The effect was really nice but from those pics, the strip on this looks cheap and tacky. Like when the Chinese copy, they just don't get that it's the detail of implementation that makes great things great, anybody can come with an idea, but very can make things look and feel good. In the mobile industry only Apple's products and the old SE T-series really had any style and design.

@RickyD
I think you are too critical of this phone. Bear in mind that these are a spy pics and as we know, they tend to be unkind to phones.
I am too sure I like the application of the square design, I thought and hope they would go with the Ray kind of design.
I will, however, wait to see the official pictures before I make my final judgement.

I dunno why nobody discussed this but the Antutu benchmark score is abnormally high for something that is only using a Snapdragon 8260 CPU and running 1280x720 resolution.

Good point!
I guess there are two possibilites, that it is not using the 8260 or as I wrote previously, that SE have squeezed out every bit of power from the processor and optimized it to perfection. They cleary have proven to be capable of the latter.
Having written that, hower, someone did post some time back that this phone is using the 8268A instead. That was some time back before we knew much about this thing and I forgot the person who posted that.

First possibility can be ruled out as software optimization only affects real world performance and not benchmark performance. Especially when you consider that the Sensation with lower screen resolution and same chipset scores about 3500!!!!
So yes it looks like it could be running the krait 8260A
Posted by Karun
If that's the case, this would be one killer device.

I hope Sony would ditch Qualcomm and go to nvidia with their next phone, the ASUS transformer prime simply destroyed all opposing smartphones and tablets with Kal'El. its a device that's almost (if not) as fast as the PSVita!

Since Sony already uses Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset in its Tablets and Walkman Z it does not make sense for them to use Qualcomm IMO.
Posted by razec
^^ Then that's good, AMD did the right job selling their mobile graphics division to QC as they knew from the start they can't match neither Imagination nor Nvidia in performance, I was impressed with nvidia's dedication to improving core performance on their SoC's GPUs few might've know this but Kal'El has 60-75% the compute power (computing only not overall performance) of the GT218 core used on GeForce G210, the successor; a quadcore Wayne probably have 90-95% the computing power of the old 9500GT graphics and the octo core wayne has 125% more compute capability than the GT216 used on GeForce 220 so that means by the time it arrives we might start seeing nvidia physX on Wayne SoCs

Everyone is saying it looks similar to the HTC Touch Diamond, what about the Japanese Toshiba Windows Phone?

Looks closer to that imho.

Uch, just when I thought I was ready to jump ship to Apple, they bring out this beast! For me this will come down to speed and how much internal storage memory it has.
Posted by rss_ndrsn
Nozomi processor is actually Tegra 2, same as Motorola Xoom. Tegra 2 is Nvidia's ARM chip name which uses ARMv7 cores. That's why it shows on the pic that ARMv7. It might not be Krait but it is better than single core processor.

I bought the very first SE, the T68i, rebranded from Ericsson, maybe i should buy the last SE also?
I will miss Ericsson in this industry for sure.
One more, and i would've had 30 SE devices.

On closer inspection, not just the SE logo on the back but also the LED and the speaker grill look very flat and photoshopped in. I expect that rear design will be different.
Also, does anybody else have any thoughts on the buttons on the front? Are they touch sensitive spots above the light bar or is that light bar press-able?
edit:
@Dups! I am critical and perhaps jumping the gun based on spyshots, but I'm critical because I care and this simply doesn't live up to the extremely high design standard set by arc and some other designs. It's definitely reminiscent of other manufacturers' handsets, and that's just not acceptable.

Apropos 8260A, it comes with Adreno 225. But according to the NenaMark benchmark test, Nozomi (/Aoba) comes with Adreno 220 .
