Nope. No "Sony Ericsson" branded phones next year. This has been confirmed by a employee on XDA.

ARC HD?? :- D

Posted by razec
I read from Softpedia that its going to have 720p display and 1080p video recording, which certainly means this phone will be using Android ICS and a Multicore CPU SoC. but if Sony decided to update the device further before showcasing it on CES/MWC 2012 here's hoping for a 16mp camera and Kal'El SoC. that would make the phone stand out despite expected heavy competition from Samsung ( i think they won't go on a 16mp yet maybe 12mp). Though the Arc design is beautiful i think it's overused now. SE is following Apple's approach to save development cost

You misunderstood my post. 2012 Q1 and Q2 we will have SONY rebranded handsets. By Q3 the first "real" in house Sony developed and SONY branded smartphone will be launched.

Yes I am also quite dissapointed with the Arc HD design. Had hoped something better from the last flagship device.

^^ It appears that you know so much about what's going on at Sony, are you an insider or a person who has some friend sources from the company?

ARC HD should have been ARC S

*ARC HD should have been ARC

Depending on the camera, must be dual core and 1.4ghz or something like that? Would have been a killer if realised in 2011.

But yeah, we need to see a new design or at least an arc completely redesigned. As much as I love my original arc, it's build quality could be better I would like to see the whole front of the phone being made entirely from glass (like the GS2 among others) this not only looks good, but also makes the phone stronger.

I'm pretty sure if it's running ICS there will be no hardware buttons? Anyone thinking that photo looks like the original arc, not even a bigger screen so must just be that?

So the Arc (S) was the last flagship with the SE logo, but the Arc HD will be the last in which Ericsson was involved?
E T68 (m) > SE T68i = SE Arc (S) > S Arc HD?

Posted by Bizzy
Just a thought, that pic is most likely just an arc or arc s, considering the article is linking to one of gsm arena's, all if not most the info is from gsmarena. No where did it state that the pic was ARC HD in ubergizmo.

Keep guessing what they will do. Do you think that Sony did not plan in advance before the buy out? Sony developed the Bravia engine and not . Sony was a lot more involved than a lot of people believe. It all started in September.

as of September 1st, 2011
Yoshihisa Ishida - Deputy CEO and EVP, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB (Formerly, President of Home Entertainment Business Group and in charge of Platform and Partner Strategy, Consumer Products & Services Group)

From September until March is enough time to design a new product.

I suppose one way of looking at it is to look at what happened with Nokia and Windows Phone.

In 6 months they took the N9 and adapted it to run on Windows Phone 7.

I suppose 6 months is plenty of time for Sony to put a unique stamp on the software of the existing SE solutions at least (to make them more similar to their own Android devices, the Walkman Z Series in particular), if not making outright modifications to specs or rushed new models.

I totally agree with you but it all depends how much Sony wants to invest and focus on the mobile division.
You are right that Nokia did not do much but I believe that it was a big mistake from Nokia.
Nokia seams to believe that the phone will sell just because it is made by Nokia. That is what made them lose a lot of market shear and it will continue in the future.

The mobile division of Sony has the most potential to be the most profitable of all it's divisions and the smartphone base is growing.

We have all seen how much money can be made and I think Sony want a great big piece of that pie.

Posted by randomuser
@Dacha,platia1

I am not *guessing*. I would love to be as optimistic as you guys to see a SONY phone by March but it is not happening. We will only see the Nozomi and a few other developed handsets till Q3 2011. The same was also confirmed by Sony itself in their Q3 earnings press conference that they will not be able to integrate SE completely into the SONY family in the short term.

Always had the best Design.
The only thing lacked was the Hardware and late release.
Hope SONY can improve the quality of the phone, use best material for all future and SONY phones.

Running sub-test, the display 720 * 1280. CPU dual-core 8260.

Posted by Dups!
It is shaping up to be an interesting phone, pity it is coming at a time when Motorola Razr brought me what I needed in a phone.

I see the RAM is indeed 1G which is nice.

Let's see how it does for the now defunct SE.

Posted by randomuser
Except that its running the crappy Snapdragon 8260 dual core CPU which has been in the market since almost a year now. Arc all over again the nozomi. 1 year behind competition. And frankly I see no chance of it getting changed to krait going by previous record.

Posted by Dups!
Unfortunately, that has been SE since the company lost its way, you can never have it all. They will always sacrifice something.

Really!!! It will be huge disappointment if that`s the truth.
Qualcomm's 8260 is kinda disappointment in performance department and it will be almost 2 years old hardware when this device is going to be released.

Dual-core 1.2GHz version of 8260 shows just 70% improvement over 1GHz single-core 8255, which is far less than it should be. Even worse, promised 100% productivity improvement of Adreno 220 over 205 isn`t there at all, and tests revealed it was merely 30% which is pretty bad.
8260 didn`t match dual-core performance of 2011 rivals and even was beaten by some single-core devices in some tests. Do you remember GSM Arena statement in it`s review that HTC Sensation was slower than Xperia Ray in loading web pages.

So if Qualcomm 8260 will be used in next flagship it will be slow as hell next to opposition like SGS3 and will be another huge fail.
I hope Sony will change their minds and didn`t start with shits like MSM 8260.
Sorry for my language.

Just look at this (HTC Piramid is using Qualcomm 1.2GHz 8260 next to 1GHz Tegra 2 and TI devices)

Really... Sony do you expect to be successful with hardware which will be easily beaten by one year old devices?!

It may be enough for decent user experience, but customers are more and more demanding these days, that`s why is loosing so much lately.

1GHz Tegra2 and TI OMAP4 has double the scores of 1,2GHz 8260 in early 2011.. do you imagine how old and distant it will be in 2012 with devices using Tegra 3, TI OMAP 5 and also Krait.

Sony need head start and have to impress at the beginning, but believe me that`s not going to happen with almost 2 years old hardware.

I am a bit disappointed as I hoped it would be at least the Qualcomm 8260A .

HTC Sensation 4G benchmark tests, skip to 2:00 for the antutu

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oRoi8pdzbU

It only gets 4561! It runs 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, Adreno 220 GPU, Qualcomm MSM 8260 Snapdragon. 6291 is good!

So Nozomi has SD-card? because of this test)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGj_HdxczMA&feature=related
not overclocked SGS2
5870 on 800*600
Nozomi
5780 on 1280*720
Not bad at all

So is the arc HD running the qualcomm 8260, is it going to be clocked at 1.5ghz?

Posted by Dups!
If there's one area that SE has improved a hundred fold is in software optimization. I actually think they are now better than all the Android manufacturers, so, I think this Nozomi will shame a few more powerful phones in performance. Take a look at what they did with the single core arc and you get an idea as to what they are capable of.

Like randomuser pointed out, at this stage we cannot blame Sony for the upcoming Sony branded phones, let's see what they have in store in Q3 and then bash them or applaud them

I have since stopped worrying about the next SE phone because SE as we know it is dead. I am just interested to see what Sony comes up with.

You all know how apprehensive I am about Sony's chances but am willing to give them a chance, who knows, maybe, just maybe they will prove me very wrong.

Why do you spread lies? I have 2 friends working for SE and ALL phones developed by SE has been done simultaneously between Japan and Lund! All big offices has been involved one way or the other. Every little software- or hardware change has to be accepted by both head offices. What has been changed is on the software side where Lund has some pretty good engineers so about 70% has been programmed in Lund but still have been approved by Tokyo.

Why do you have to misunderstand my post ??????? Did you understand what I was trying to say ? The Nozomi is 100% project . You have said the same thing in your post. Then how am I spreading lies ? There is a difference between and SONY.

SONY does not have/had 100% control over product development at . Things are/were decided between Sony and Ericsson both as you mentioned. And hence its not reasonable to expect SONY to change the hardware now when the project was developed and has now almost reached final stages under and NOT Sony Electronics

Yes that is right but till then the phones that SE had prepared for 2012 including the Nozomi will be rebranded SONY and sold in the market. Like how the T68i was re branded Sony Ericsson. Yes Nozomi will be available from Q1.

I feel for you, I know how much you would've loved the xenon flash.

I also think it looks like that HTC. The design is okay though not as impressive, I will, however, wait for the official pics cause spy shots usually don't do justice to the phone.
