i think there will be no vita lite, Sony is perhaps thinking about something as unique like Sony dual screen tablet which runs Playstation Suite, a dual screen Sony phone will surely revive the extinct form factor on mobile phones.

Sony should start rolling out a variant of S006/S007 outside japan, most of us have been waiting for almost 2 years now

Posted by goldenface
Lots of rumours already for 2012, it looks like we will be seeing spread of new Sony devices - the devices we have been waiting for.

Lol canceling play 2 was probably the first thing they did. Cant have something competing with vita now can we? They are probably gonna keep playstation suite as it is with no games so it continues to be mediocre. "If you want to play, buy the vita!"

Thats why Samsung>Sony. They focus on building good hardware without thinking about competition amongst themselves. I swear if Sony knew how to make mobile cameras as good as regular cameras they still wouldnt use it in their phones.

Sure hope Sony can make something good out of this but I doubt it. They will probably think their shitty services (music and video) will sell their devices for them and lock them down in the process. Prove me wrong Sony!

Oh well like the link I shared, it was a very old Esato Thread.
I think it was shared when SE just formed...when they have only T68i, T300, T200 and some phone that is so so to the market to offer.

So you're saying that mobile R&D in Lund will cease to exist?

Yes all R&D will move to Japan together with Sony's Vaio and Sony Computer Entertainment R&D center. The mobile division will work closely with the Vaio and playstation division. That is what Sony said, ...

laffen reckons the R&D will stay as it is but the same employess will be working for Sony instead of Sony Ericsson. Have you got a link?

Don't act like you knew everything, it's pure based from your imagination!
No Citations No Sources available at this time, if you don't know anything clear enough better shut up!

It's irritating to keep reading all those crap!

I never said I know everything! I am only posting articles based on yesterday's press conference made by Sony. And its SONY now not so better get over it and not "wishing" for certain things to not change.

Here is an article
http://vr-zone.com/articles/s[....]ways-remain-friends/13825.html
Quoting from the article

"Currently a lot of its R&D is located in Sweden, although it's expected that this division will be closed down over time with most, if not all of it being moved to Japan."

The only reason the R&D center was in Sweden was the fact that Ericsson was a Swedish company. Sony has all its R&D centers in Japan. Thinking that a Japanese company that has all its brand R&D centers in Japan will have its smartphone R&D center in Sweden is nothing but wishful thinking.

Of course the Lund center will continue for a short period of time but soon it will cease to exist once everything is moved to Japan. Maybe Shinagawa technology center in Tokyo where most Sony electronics R&D takes place

They had 50/50 R&D to start with, but the last 2 yrs ALL R&D was moved to Lund/Sweden.

That's all except the big shiny new R&D centre in Beijing that created 2000 jobs this year. Which is why we're getting so many leaks from Chinese sources in the last few months (Chinese people don't see rules as rules but as guidelines).

Back on topic, does anyone know anything about a 5" 2GB RAM device? Supposedly it's doing the rounds internally.

We like leaks don't we. It is thanks to "these rules as guidelines chinese people" who risk there jobs to GIVE you leaks. How ironic that one minute you think that leaking new device is not up your street, another asking about the 5" 2GB RAM device which was leaked by a chinese person on a chinese website!

Maybe I am looking into this too far, but people, thank the chinese and not bash them!

5 inch is way too big. I prefer they concentrated on the imaging department.

+ 2GB RAM? Really? What for? Running Crysis?

if they close the R&D centre in sweden then wat abt the sweden employees?? there will definitely be a big problems in moving the employees.. will see wat will happen.

in another topic on this subject today (which is why its best to keep these discussions in one place), laffen said:-

The people working for Sony Ericsson today will still be working for Sony after Ericsson is out of the picture. It won't be a ethnic cleansing so the workforce will still be a mix of mostly Europeans and Asians. I do not think half the workforce will leave the day the transaction is competed.

I have to agree. It surely won't make business sense for Sony to immediately shutdown the whole operation outside of Japan, and so I think this question is not an issue. It makes sense to keep the same people on but give them a more Sony focussed direction for design and development.

Why not make a 16mp cameraphone instead and give it PS suite? a single powerful gaming phone will be pointless once more Sony devices start coming out with the software runtime

also i laughed at the 2GB RAM, is android as bloated as windows vista to require such capacity? no android game has yet surpassed PC games in quality so this is pointless they need to focus on something else like bringing PSVita power on the next "big thing" on Sony mobile phones

Hmmm, looks like a more final version of what we saw earlier. Seems to have the see-through strip at the bottom, but it looks to have more defined edges and better fit.

Also looks like the housing might be aluminium? Could that separate panel section be plastic for the aerials?

It looks like a phone with a new design language or maybe my eyes are being tricked

Heavy speakers I see there!

I've always wondered what it takes to actually take a photo of the entire device... in focus, preferably.

Are we going to see a couple new devices before we see the actual end of ? Or are they being cancelled, being rebranded or what?

Id like to see go out with a bang, release something 'special'.

Posted by jack00
this device already looks a lot like a sony product, so rebranding is probably even easier
but on the other hand sony can't make the mistake to already start with inferior products
they need to start with a big bang, otherwise they won't sell the "change" to the customers

Posted by aamwng
I think nozomi/aoba and ray2 will still be sony ericsson.

Posted by king-james
I don't think that it is one device...

Posted by HxH
no such a way already dead!

Posted by aamwng
What? is not dead! is now SONY, without ericsson!

The pics shows two different devices I think, one is plastic and the black one isn't

They better make a comeback for the mechanical lens cover, or should they (all companies) wait for Apple to incorporate one on their iPhone 5 and call it an innovation before they follow and be called copycats?

It`s USB or HDMI port and we can use it for reference point and say there will be no lens cover but camera bulge at the back, cause overall thickness of the device looks below 9,3mm.

But can SE sustain itself without releasing a handset till MWC?

Posted by argiriano
First ray of light - Google introduced New Google TV couple a days ago and Sony is the first to update with new version on their TVs. It is one of the points where Sony and Google can be very strong together.

Yes. Their portfolio is stronger than at this point last year when they'd not released 1 decent handset since the X10 in March. This year they had Arc, Play and Neo in March and have had a handful of reasonable mid-range handsets since. So long as whatever comes in Q1 is good (and all the rumblings are that it will be), their shouldn't be any issues.

I just hope Sony take the handset industry seriously and don't screw it up, but again, I can't see anything going too far wrong. Handsets are going to be the centre of everybody's world in 5-10 years (as opposed to well loved toys of geeks like it is now).

Posted by io_bg
I'm hoping their new devices won't be made of glossy plastic like Vivaz. I've kept mine 90% of the time in a leather case and it still has some small scratches at the back. Plus that glossy plastic really attracts fingerprints. It'd be cool if their more expensive devices are made of metal for example, while the cheaper ones are made of matte plastic (not glossy).

Posted by goldenface
It's likely that Sony will want to put it's own style and feel to the new devices and even go as far as to want to differentiate itself completely from the Xperias. I'm not a great fan of the current materials that they use - except the screens, which I think are very durable.

Posted by randomuser
Yes definitely. The first smartphone should be much more similar to the Tablet S/P and the Walkman Z than 2011 Xperia models.

Posted by titus1
We all have to just wait and see...shall we?

Posted by goldenface
Hopefully not too long:

CES - 10th - 13th January. or

Mobile World Congress - 27th February - 1st March.

Sony considers quitting the S-LCD joint venture with Samsung
What could that mean? Maybe Sony will use OLED displays in their phones instead of S-LCD ones?

The Flagship smartphone will most likely have an OLED screen as in the Walkman X series, Walkman A series and the PS Vita. Sony also uses OLED in cybershot models. So it will be quite natural for them to fit an OLED screen in their flagship phone. The mid range devices may also have an OLED screen but not VERY likely.

Also S-LCD (Samsung-Sony LCD manufacturing JV) and SLCD (Super LCD screens) are not one and the same. The Sony SLCD screens used in phones has nothing to do with Samsung or their JV with Samsung but Sony Mobile Displays which is now Japan Display (merger of INCJ, Sony, Toshiba and Sharp mobile display divisions) So yes we will still see Japan Display screens in their phones.

I am waiting for my Razr so I will most likely be using a Sony phone in 2013 provided that it is worth it.

This is Sony's chance to show that it can use its technological prowess to the fullest.

Hi people

Ik think also their TV brand wil have Oled, becouse now they have LED and the reason why Sony dump S-LCD technologie, they just want more work with Japanese company's instead of copycats Koean company as you can see (Samsung) or (LG)
