People complaining about the high price of the play, yes it was expensive but maybe it was necessary? The cost of developing a handset like the play, I can only imagine would be pretty expensive figuring out how to incorporate a full game pad in a phone, and creating something completely different as well as getting game developers on board. All of the development costs do add up and maybe the high price was due to the fact that the manufacturing and developing costs were high. Now they can lower the price because they can sustain to sell at this price and still make a decent profit.

I still think it's not too late for the play to sell well, no the price is amazing (lower then the 3ds) it will be extremely popular for parents to buy their kids for Christmas and I think the lower age group (maybe teens as well) will buy this product because of its low price, which is where it failed before. SE made the mistake of trying to target the older businessman type person. But lets be honest what self respecting worker would carry around a phone with a game console built in! They should of tried to attract the younger age group imo.

looooool....dont get us laughing, sony can sell something like the psvita for 249$ and still dont lose money, and sony ericsson cant sell the xperia play for less than 300euros??Even the iphone 4s,which uses much better processor/gpu/ram/screen technology and dual-antennas,costs apple to manufacture around 200$...Xperia play cant cost sony ericsson more than 150-200$ to manufacture.

But that is only the cost of the components. There are other things to consider like the software and advertisements.

Although the psvita has a lot more stuff packed into it, the design it just a redevelopment of the original psp. There are fewer restraints in this type of product. Then you have the play which needs to be acceptable as both a phone and game console, and so yes I can imagine that the development of this handset would have been not only time consuming, but also required a lot of attention with multiple prototypes etc.

You seem to be thinking that when a company sells a product, they only have to cover the cost of it's manufacturer and anything over that they keep as profit? The design of any product requires staff, a building with gas, heating etc., materials to suitable test the design. Then afterwards there's still the advertising and having to work on the software. All these costs add up that when it eventually gets to market they have to put these in the costing of it so that they can make a suitable return.

The iPhone 4s is a poor example to relate to it, as it was just a remake of the 4. They kept the same design and just upgraded some of the specs, so yes of course they can produce it cheaply because they have the same suppliers from before as well as the fact that they know they will sell a lot of the product so can buy parts in high quantities.

I do agree that the play was well overpriced at launch for what it is, but I also believe that the price was necessary.

Yes, it wasn't a bad phone but totally bad support & after sale service!

Looks like a concept from, hmm whats the site... esato?

Heh but seriously isnt that the arc-satio in brushed metal from the concept forum?

edit. Woot maybe not, At least I cant find it. I immediately thought of a concept from here though. If the new flagship comes with brushed metal Im buying it no matter what the specs are!

edit2. Found it...

phone looks quite bland...hate the buttons too...

Posted by admad
Wow very nice conecpt, hope that's what it will look like, especially in xenon flash department :>

Posted by NightBlade
That's nothing more than an arc and a Satio mashed together, plus the aluminium.

Posted by hihihans
Esato's concept creators are so damn good. At least twice a year someone thinks it's real. A big hand for the artists!
edit: OOPS diferent site but still a good one.

Hmmm, I wonder if SE have left the camera shutter for good because all their cyber-shots had it apart from the K850i but if they do go for it, I'd wont a slider like the C905 which is recessed so it doesn't stick out like the Satio, K800i etc.

But I think SE have left this behind, because now it's all about thin and if a manual shutter is included it would add extra bulk to it (imagine the arc having a camera shutter lol)

While forgetting camera cover. for got the xenon as well. Im not even Getting any single word on xenon from any oem. No rumors at least.usually do xenon with older hardware in feature phones, even they r not following the same in android though we need dual core.

As far as I can see, it reminds me a bit of the bottom part of the new Sony Walkman Z:

Looking at the tumb size I have to say this is something smaller than Nozomi should be...

not much plastic there

I know full well that things look much different once the press shots and full device images are available, but that doesn't look so great to me.

Black and white plastic in the same design?? Not sure about that.

This translucent bar on the back reminds me of the T650 (which was nice) but less well executed.

Considering the T650 link and the Pureness link to the T650 this might be an extension of that line.

I just hope it actually looks better than this.

after the latest comments from sony ericsson - focus shift to 100% smartphones
i highly doubt that they make a purenss 2
i am still using my T650, i would be all in for a successor

Posted by adsada
@jack00

I read an article from 2009 which interviewed the creator of pureness and he said a number 2 was in the works, but designing them is a side project and as such will take at least 2 years to develop. That was 2009, and it is now 2 years since then. Yes the shift is to smartphones, but it is still possible that they will produce it, I would imagine the profit margins on it are quite high, although it is also possible SE might just scrap the whole project. Or maybe pureness 2 IS a smartphone? how cool would that be the whole phone just a see through sheet of glass. (yes I know impossible with todays technology, but it would be coooooooool )

@Ricky D That spy image fake or not, looks like the bottom of the front of the smartphone. My guess is the white part is where the screen would go (especially with Android 4.0 being buttonless) and that is just white in prototype? Just a guess but I doubt they'd use those to colours in the colour scheme of any of their phones.

Posted by aamwng
To me, that pic shows the back of the phone. Don't think that is a pureness 2

I agree it`s the back of the device, cause of the curved edges. It look to me like prety ugly device, but remembering the first leaks of Ray I tought it was damn ugly, and now I`m in love with it, so we need to wait and see.

Posted by idumbakumar
I highly doubt whether its pureness. is not in a position to create such a model.
Usually xperia is engraved on the front bottom of the phone.but not sure its the front.

How big is that person's thumb???

"No physical press the button"
Does that mean touch sensitive or nothing at all like the galaxy nexus?
If it is like galaxy nexus, that means that screen will be less than 4'3, because the buttons will be there!

Is that white plastic is really a part of the phone?? Or just a cover for the screen. Look clearly its expanded both the sides as the transparent middle line. I suspect its the front. any people who likely to hold the phone showing the front.
If the white plastic is the part of the phone, may b battery cover then it should be back.
Ya ya its early to judge...

why lower the screen reso/size - if the above above information is correct.
btw htc legend screen size is 3.2~ approx...
hmm

Mmm, it looks like the back to me too, and as the original source says that this phone is Nozomi, I don't think this can be the front of the phone as it would not allow much room for the touch screen.

This is great news if it's correct, power like that in a package below 4" is a given for me. Went with Neo as it is 3.7"

Posted by goldenface
It does look smaller than Arc width-wise - unless the guy holding it has gigantic thumbs. Does this leak point to an imminent annoucement?

Great news to learn this could be the first using ST-Ericsson chips.

What is the purpose of the transparent type display? - I'm a bit confused as to the benefits.

I think its the body that is transparent, not the display. Or have I missed something?

Posted by HYPER-X10
That would make for an awesome notification light. It would be visible no matter what way around the phone is.

Btw Rog, how do you think (without saying anything specific) the SE 2012 line is shaping up? Do you think they can compete better than this year?

Posted by Ricky D
It surely must be the back. Never heard of any proto having a white plastic cover as a place holder for screen. Aalso who in their right mind would have a laterally convex screen?

The white plastic is hopefully something thrown in to confuse us like a battery cover from the white variant and the main body from the black variant. If it's actually designed to be released like that I may just sit this one out.

That clear strip is (like I said before) just like the T650 notification light bar which shone beautifully. Although this looks less well designed.

Neither X1, X10 nor Arc (I'm pretty sure the others don't either) have Xperia in a 3D relief like this. I think This is the only positive to take from this design.

I am kind of wondering what that tiny nubble is on the end under the dudes finger. Looks like a 3.5mm socket to me, any light from anyone?

Posted by adsada
I am pretty sure that leaked photo IS the front, see the XPERIA engraved into the plastic that is typical for the xperia line for the xperia logo to be at the bottom of the front of the handset in the centre.

If it was the back then the xperia logo would be along the back in the centre (when the phone is rotated in landscape) unless they've changed the design that has to be the bottom of the front!

Could the reason there are no keys, is because the phone will run on android 4.0 which requires no physical buttons?

Good point! It is still puzzling though why they would need to cover the front of the phone like that - I'm baffled as it doesn't look like any other phones in the portfolio other than something with the same form-factor as the Pureness.

I'm still not convinced, look at the curve, it is classic human curvature to be rounded along the sides of the back, it make the phone 'feel' thinner in the hand. I believe it's the bottom of the back and as a white battery cover. It's less of a design change to put the xperia logo on the bottom than it is to curve the front outwardly. It's also much less weird.

If you look at the way the reflections distort closer to the edges it's clear its not at all a mild convex curvature.
