Ah. Makes sense. New topic: ice cream sandwich(from the leaked video of nexus prime), yay or nay?
Wonder how sonyericsson will customise it...

Qualcomm just released new details on their new soc... would be really cool if nozomi has that

The MSM8960 does look interesting and powerful indeed. The problem with SE is that Qualcomm has shares in HTC and so will more than likely give their best stuff first to HTC before anybody else.

Sadly, Ericsson is also about to sell its stake in ST-Ericsson due to the latter making too many losses.

Looks like Ericsson is cutting its losses seeing that SE may soon be 100 percent Sony controlled.

It's been nice folks, I will not be lurking here anymore since my interest in SE is gone. The impending takeover by Sony has made to decide to wait and see what Sony does, I may come back if Sony makes good products and succeeds in this industry but am not too optimistic.

Cheers!

One thing is for sure, Sony will have bleeding edge hardware but will make the developer/modder's heart bleeding in software.

seriously though, Qualcomm has lead us to the 1Ghz race, but was lost on the dual core craze. now is the time to resurrect. the Adreno 225 GPU looks powerful on paper, but i still think PowerVR will remain the king in mobile graphics. If AMD could shrink their the HD6570 GPU (Turks) to fit into a tablet...

I wonder if Nozomi has at least LTE. Considering that Ericsson is building up LTE networks and SE has not one phone announced with it whereas lots of others have is just another episode of failure.
After ten years with SE I think I am going with the only true P800 successor in the market: the Samsung Galaxy Note! Sad, sad, sad.

No, mate, I meant I will not be posting or looking into this thread but will be around esato.

you can still hang around here to give your thoughts you don't need to have an or Sony phone to write a single word here or should we?

Be careful, I will send my lawyers after all those who speak ill of me

I don't know guys, like I wrote, I have come to a realisation that the SE I loved is not the same as before and I am just not feeling it anymore. I know I have been pessimistic about Sony's chances but as razec suggested that I should wait and see what Sony comes up with, I am giving Sony a chance. In fact, I now think this is actually a good move cause SE has reached its destination and cannot go beyond this. I know Sony will give us amazingly specced phones and I am really hoping they keep the SE team cause they have made huge strides to again being at the top end of the scale.

I don't like Samsung, I detest LG, Motorola is dead to me, HTC has problems with signal reception and Nokia is Microsoft's pawn and I see a bleak future for them.

I am okay with Blackberry and am looking into Apple but I am now not so sure I will eventually buy the iPhone anymore.

So, this all leads me back to Sony Mobile, like they say, home is where the heart is. I am really looking forward to their first superphone.

Yes, I have had a change of heart. It was time to move on from the love affair I had with Ericsson. I just hope Sony doesn't fail as I suspect it is likely to (sorry, I have this feeling I can't shake but I hope I am wrong).

I am also looking forward to this thread renamed 'The All New 2012 Sony Portfolio' next year. By that I mean they should acquire the Ericsson shares as soon as now.

Sony, don't you dare disappoint me!!!

@razec

No, no one is prohibited from contributing to this thread even if they don't own a Sony Ericsson/Sony phone, it is just that I don't want to be here when the Ericsson part is soon to disappear. I will be back when it is all Sony. I don't even know whether I want to buy (the) Nozomi seeing that it is likely to be the last Sony Ericsson's last flagship before it becomes Sony.

So, until then, I WILL BE BACK. Arnold Schwazeneger would be proud

If rog's comment is to go by, since he is one of the most trusted insider here, it look's like SE/Sony will not disappoint.

As for Nozomi, if this is SE's last phone, you may want to buy it because it is the last SE phone. I still keep my T68 as a souvenir as it is last Ericsson phone I had before it became an SE.

Exciting times indeed!

I'm wondering of Sony has been planning for the eventual divorce all along and has been working on mobiles of their own for a few years now.

I just try to think the real meaning behind the Nozomi name as since it generally means "Wish" in Japanese, i have a feeling that this one will surely deliver. if it did I'm sure we'll burst into tears as we only managed to see the real "best" of SE in its last moments - perhaps I'm being too carried away

Haha.

Actually, both Nozomi and Aoba are service names of fastest train in Japan (or, shinkansen). After the fruit names for 2011, Sony Ericsson seems going for this kind of stuff for 2012 portfolio. They might have Mizuho, Tsubame, or even Hikari up in their sleeves. Just a wild guess.

Well its now 99% confirmed Sony is taking over so no point of solving problems now. Its all over the news now with coverage every single tech site and neither Ericsson or have claimed that the news is only a rumor and the takeover is not happening.

I think earliest the takeover can happen by December end this year. But most probably Q1 next year.

+1. On the articles in swedish press alot of people from Ericsson commented saying they havent heard a thing. I imagine at least something would have slipped out by now. They also said Sony is still treating SE like a bastard child but it has gotten better. apperently Sony had a lot of control when Dick was CEO, look how that went

I know spy pics never do justice to the actual phone, but whatever that is, it looks very un-SE. Too block-ish and not following design.

Posted by goldenface
That looks like it means business - looks like nothing in the current portfolio. Look at the music buttons, at the TOP of the phone?

And going by the 3.5mm jack it looks to be about 12mm with human curvature tapering down to the bottom of the phone.

Is that a symbol on the power button that has been removed?

I hope that becomes reality by end of next year but I am beginning to have doubts. They should've made a statement to the contrary if the rumour wasn't true.

Anyway, that W23i looks like some serious walkman phone or is it a phone, of course, judging by the limited view of the photo itself.

I agree with FMW300i, from that angle it looks like nothing SE would design. Could this be a Sony walkman instead? The design does lend itself to a Sony style of design.

Hold on, what am doing in this thread again?

Posted by goldenface
That made me laugh so much Dups!

Yeah, it does look like a Sony Walkman but wouldn't the camera aperture but an unusual feature for a Walkman only device?

Aaah, I didn't think of the camera, good point. In that case, it is more of an SE phone with Sony desing elements.

I would love to see the whole phone. Come on Sony, hand this baby your true walkman hardware cause from that angle it looks like a really high-end walkman phone.

Posted by Ricky D
That Walkman device looks pretty cool but I want a Cybershot. Hope it has a big sister with sexy curves

I think it's obviously a logo on the big button on top and it isn't a power button, but rather a hard-key to the music player. The styling looks a lot like the MW600 accessory (which shipped with the X1 didn't it?) if it were to be blown up to a handset size..

On 2011-10-12 20:07:47, aurelius wrote:
There are a couple of issues with Sony buying out Ericsson!

Patents - Do you really think Ericsson with all those patents would sell them and having nothing left for themselves? If they sell those mobile patents there's pretty much nothing left. Ericsson stands really strong with these patents and I doubt that they would sell them to Sony and Sony needs those patents to be able to secure their future mobile sales.

This is not the first time I've heard this rumour, it keeps coming back year after year!

Ericsson wouldn't have to sell their mobile patents but rather let Sony license them exclusively and leave the Ericsson name on the handsets (optional).

That way Sony can have the control they want over designs and direction, bringing it closer to the Sony family of products, take the lion share of the profits and give back to Ericsson for patent backup.

I actually don't see much to get in the way of a 'takeover', although it may just be a significant shift in shares with maybe Sony taking 80% and Ericsson 20%.

Posted by Dups!
@Ricky D

I agree with you on the patents, if the 'takeover' happens Sony will license those patents from Ericsson. As for Sony keeping the Ericsson name, I really doubt that. It would make good business sense if they did but knowing Sony they tend to erase all traces of former partners. They are likely to drop the Ericsson name and stick with their own name.

I was wondering about that also, there does seem to be something resembling some sort of a hinge towards the top of the phone.

Posted by razec
The top portion reminds me of W902, as for the lack of human curve on the back of the device, i think that doesn't mean its fake, since we already have Xperia Ray/Active which lacks it.

Posted by goldenface
The hinge thing looks more like an opening such as speaker aperture or other opening.

Posted by Ricky D
Perhaps that 'hinge' is an opening for helping remove the back cover.

Hmmm... you may be on to something here. I initially thought it was weird that the name and logos have been cover up but dismissed it.

Clearly this is more of a Sony design than SE as we have stated and maybe this is just Sony and not Sony Ericsson.

Could this be what you were wondering about, goldenface? You wondered if Sony were working on phones in preparation for the takeover, this really is unlike a Sony Ericsson design.

Posted by goldenface
Well when you take into account the time it takes to develop a handset it wouldn't surprise me if Sony have indeed already developed their own prototype Sony mobiles in preparation for any eventual change of ownership - just a thought.

The picture might just have the normal logo scrubbed out, and further down on the battery cover, it does look like the normal Sony Ericsson logo scrubbed out - you can almost make out the start and end of what looks like 'Sony Ericsson'.

Eh, sorry am I missing something here? So lets just get this right you think that Sony has taken it apon themselves to develop their own prototypes so that they'll be prepared if they do buy Ericsson out? I can't really see that as sustainable at all, considering the fact that these after all are just talks which have gone on before and could still easily collapse as it has done in the past. Then Sony has wasted it's money developing these phones? Also obviously the speed at which technology changes why would they develop phones for the 'eventual change of ownership'? When these phones if just kept for a couple of years will end up being outdated. Not to mention the fact that if Sony was to be producing these for itself, that would be totally unacceptable in the current joint venture and show a complete lack of commitment to making Sony Ericsson work, which could then be argued that they are to blame for their downfall.

Also if Sony has been planning this for a while, why did they then after many years of discussions realise the Xperia play under Sony Ericsson if they knew in a year that they would buy them out? Surely they would have held off until then?
